Whats the best Hosting which could handle burst of Traffic

I am running a website, but as an Internet Marketer, I see I get a lot of traffic in bursts. What is the best hosting you guys use and recommend for high traffic volume website.

On an average the site receives around 20000 Unique Visitors daily.

I know dedicated hosting is the way to go. But whats the best, reliable and Customer friendly Hosting Service provider.

It doesn't matter who your host is if you get bursts like that. You will definitely have to effectively use some sort of caching plugin like:

WordPress › WP Super Cache « WordPress Plugins

...if your running Wordpress and use the recommended settings. That will make that volume of traffic much more palatable to any hosting service.

I am currently using HostGator on a Shared Hosting but the problem appeared in quite recent days, seems like HostGator had turned out to be too slow and sluggish in operation in recent days.

There customer support is good, but still they cant figure out that the site is loading slow and the normal answer that everything is working fine is not good for me.

So, I am thinking of moving to some dedicated Hosting but not from HostGator.

Let me know, if you guys know, some good service provider in Dedicated Hosting Category and if they provide the site transfer from existing HostGator cPanel to them.

Transferring from your old cPanel account to a new hosting provider should never be an issue. You might want to consider moving up from shared to a decent managed VPS before going with a dedicated server.

Is there some specific reason to first move to VPS and then later to dedicated.

I am planning to move to iWeb - Smart Server Hosting.

They say its Hybrid (Cloud + Dedicated). What do you think is that good ?

Dedicated Servers, Dedicated Server Hosting, Discover Smart Server | iWeb

I am planning for their $79 Per Month Plan in the start.

    Jim,

If you want a simple cheap shared hosting like HostGator you won't be able to find this type of thing, or if you do please let me know :-)

At 20,000 visitors a day I'm surprised you haven't seen slow downs before now; remember that they cram 500 or more sites on a single shared server.

Over the last several years I've had numerous hosting accounts (all on different hosting companies), at one point I was close to 60 accounts but am down to about 30 right now, and not a one of them could do what you want.

I've tried the cloud flare route but it really didn't make an appreciable difference, at least in my situations.

If you want to handle unexpected traffic bursts then, as far as I know, you'll need:

    1. Some VPS hosting services will scale up automatically, most won't, but it'll probably be the most similar to what you have already and more expensive than a standard shared hosting but usually the cheapest of the other options.

This should start about $50/month and go up depending upon what configuration you want.

    2. A dedicated server is normally underutilized so they generally can handle small short burst of traffic okay.

Now, if you're doing a big million dollar in a day launch with 1,000 people ordering at once then you'll be in trouble unless you're using serious hardware with load balancing and the like.

This will start at about $150-200/month and go up from there.

    3. If you don't need a lot of hand holding -- either you know how to manage a server or you have someone to do it for you -- then you might try Amazon's Elastic Compute Cloud which will expand and contract accordingly to handle traffic spikes.

It would probably do whatever you want and handle whatever you could throw at it but I don't think you'll get all the easy, handy stuff that a shared hosting account from HostGator or BlueHost or other ones like that provide.

I haven't tried it yet myself but some months ago I heard about it and that they give you one year free; don't know if that's still valid.

Shoot, let me check for you... yes, it's still free for the first year, you can read more about it here Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2)

    Hope that helps!

      Thanks for your reply David.

I actually chose the CDN route since the start. I used to redirect my entire traffic through MaxCDN. That worked for me as of now.

But I think now is the good time to switch to some Dedicated Hosting, so that I can possibly handle the loading time issue.

Have any of you guys used Dedicated Servers, Reliable Dedicated Hosting & Advanced Hosting Solutions | iWeb for dedicated or VPS Hosting.

I would try Bitnami They can set you up with a virtual server using the Amazon EC2 cloud, and it would be less than the $79, and scalable so that you can handle any surge of traffic.

It depends how much traffic you are talking about in your "bursts". No shared hosting or small VPS solution has any hope of dealing with very large burst of visitors. Even Hostgator will tell you that very clearly on their website.

If budget allows I would recommend

Cloud Sites and Cloud Website Hosting by Rackspace (no aff)

Starts at $150 per month so as I said, if budget allows. This can handle ANY size burst.

All you need is a dedicated server with a good CDN. MaxCDN is ok. Akamai is the gold standard that powers government and major ecommerce online.

As for Dedicated hosts, I recommend RackSpace (more expensive) or WiredTree (I use them). Before committing, make sure the service offers managed hosting. Otherwise you'll be responsible for everything. Most low-priced providers don't include server management.

If you want Cloud (let's you scale resources up or down at will), look at StormOnDemand by LiquidWeb. Personally, I'm waiting a few more years before I jump to the cloud.
