I need a good keyword tool. The main thing i need it to do is.

1. find out how many google searches are made for "keyword"
2. find out how many competing sites there are for that keyword in google.

I have tried two tools non of which works.

Keyword elite
very good at getting keywords in project 1 but in project 2 it always gets stuck at 60% and never finishes a job.

keyword-magic-professional
this seemed to work very well but google band my ip after a day and the software stopped working.

Anyone got any suggestions on a tool that works !!!

Wordtracker does it, Has a monthly membership fees attached to it,
i believe Micro Niche Finder can also do it, i have not tried it though.

Take a look at this free keyword utility. It seamlessly integrates with Google's AdWords keyword tools. As good as many of the paid tools out there.

You don't have to pay money for these tools,

I own most of the kw tools under the sun (Keyword Elite, Nichebot, Wordtracker, and many others I don't remember) and the 2 I most use are :

-Google free keywrdtool to find estimated searches per keyword.
-Spyfu free service to find data about competing sites.

      Hope this will help

I like Market Samurai, it does what you want with no monthly fee, though the initial cost is $150 but includes all updates for life.

Agree with Goldmine, these are the two I use the most.
I have considered Micro Niche Finder but have never pulled the trigger to buy it.

Come on travlinguy, you know it's against the rules to put affiliate links into your posts.

I use Micro Niche Finder all the time as part of my keyword research. It does use Google data and analyzes that data to give you a readout that will tell you the strength of competition for a particular keyword.

I personally like the Adword keyword suggester because not only is it free, it is pretty accurate because it is based on Google's search engines, and what is better than getting real results from the owner of the whole search engine optimization epidemic?

I would go for a combination of Market Samurai, Spyfu and DEO digger (which has morphed into SEMrush lately).

As to provide a more pertinent reply to the question, I would add this, which I grabbed from the Quick Start Guide written by Jim Morris, Founder of NicheBOT, which I'm currently testing: Keyword Research is NOT an exact science.

Further, he adds: ...you will find certain keywords in one database that you won't find in
    another database.

    and

Each and every person has their own unique spin, understanding, interpretation
and translation of how things work. And when one person passes information on to
someone else, sometimes the concepts are not expressed clearly, or they're simply
    misunderstood.

When it comes to keyword research, different people have different needs. We
built NicheBOT with flexibility firmly in mind.

and then he goes on to repeat for the third or fourth time:Keyword Research is NOT an exact science.

Hope that helps you put certain things into perspective.
