Try market samurai. It's very comprehensive. You can have a free trial for 12 days.

I use NicheBot too. It's the most comprehensive, I think. But it's a bit overwhelming if you're a Newbie.

I would have to go with the classic google keyword search tool. what I am interested in is the volume of searches and the amount of competition that is out there.

google adwords tool is the best and free. It gives many stats related to the keywords, which is very important for keyword research..I never felt the need to go for any paid tool for keyword research.

    Hi,

There can be some advantages to using paid services, for example more keywords, faster generation of a list, limit list to required keyword areas, etc.

I'm working with MicroNicheFinder, NicheBotX and Google Free.

Besides being free, the Google Adwords Keyword Tool makes it easy to use filters to focus on certain variables you want to check, like Exact/Broad searches, Average Monthly searches, Cost per Click, etc. You can also click on Use Synonyms to get a whole set of "related" keyword phrases that could get you thinking about other possibilities. Then you can export the list to a spreadsheet and play around with volume of searches, CPC, etc. All free. Good deal.

I've got to second the Market Samurai recommendation. It's the best keyword tool I've tried by far. It was a little buggy at first but all that's been straightened out with the updates.

I had this dream of combining the power of four rather expensive online subscription tools and write a good .php script to automatically cross-reference whatever was needed to weed out "hot money keywords" and launch devastatingly effective article and PPC campaigns.

    The four are:

Semrush (ex-SEO Digger): no links allowed because only 11 posts
Traffic Travis: no links allowed because only 11 posts
Spyfu: no links allowed because only 11 posts
    Market Samurai

At this point, it remains a dream.

I used to use nichebot, but the subscription aspect to it became a real turn off. As several people have already said, Micro Niche Finder, consider this another vote from me. I absolutely LOVE this tool.
