Hosting - Who do you use? Need alternative to Kiosk

Hey guys,

I've been using Kiosk reseller hosting for a few years now and until recently I had no problems with them.

Lately they have been down for long periods each day for the last two days and as a business owner I am losing sales, affiliate sales and signups.

Needless to say I'm getting a little frustrated and being a business owner I have to stop the bleeding. Si I'd appreciate some recommendations and experiences of other hosting companies that are reliable.

Thanks,

Mike Hill

    HI Mike,

I can recommend WebHostGiant (Low Cost Web Hosting - WebhostGIANT). I don't have an affiliate relationship. I just like the customer service they provide the fragile Sage.

    Success,

Hi Mark. I was hoping you could elaborate on not liking cpanel, if you don't mind.
      Thanks,

I have been with Just Host for a little over 3 months now and I really like them. I am on the month to month plan for $7.95 a month. The Cpanel has all the the bells and Whistles. Unlimited bandwidth, domains, transfer, email accounts. I read a lot of reviews before I signed up and they are considered a top notch webhost.

HostJury has some very good user generated reviews of all the web hosting companies.

I would recommend 'Fused Network' which is top of their total list, and a Canadian company with servers in Toronto and the US. As a fellow Canadian I thought it might be worth a look.

HostGator is ranked 5th on their list.

Like other posters, would prefer hostgator.com as they have great and responsive customer service to all of your queries, and great tutorials on just about anything you can think of!

Hmmmm, maybe I should give hostgator another try. They didn't do too good the last time I tried them - but maybe they have got over the problems.
    Thanks for all the votes!

Hate to turn this thread into a "broken record" but I'll also have to recommend HostGator. I haven't had any problems with them, if shared or reseller hosting is all you need they've got you covered. The only way I see myself moving to a different host is when (not if) I end up needing a VPS or dedicated server (not sure what their pricing is for dedicated, but as far as I know they don't offer VPS).

....By the way, I am also at Kiosk now, but the support is really bad - and they don't seem to care.
I don't mind the price if the product is there, but help desks in some far off land just don't cut it, most of the time they do not read, or do not understand the support question, and a reply that takes more than 24 hours is not unusual, which holds your work up terribly.
The conference room help is really good, except that there is too often nobody there. That's despite advertising 24/7 help!
Frustration is a killer so I am eagerly reading these posts to find a good home for my sites.

    Hi Mike,

You'll find quite a few threads similar to this one on the forum. Hostgator seems to be the one that around 75% of IM'ers tend to use/recommend. They are very good value, reliable and give excellent support.

I use HostGator as well. The customer service is excellent. They will even move your site for you from another hosting account including WordPress blogs so you can keep all of your previous posts, audio, etc. Not only is the tech help quick, but they really know their stuff!

Just make sure if you install an autoresponder script to a HostGator hosted site, or a membership site script that can send broadcasts to members, that you go into the script settings and set the number of messages sent per hour/minute to the rules stated in the TOS for the hosting accounts or your script will just stop working and your account possibly closed.

You have to edit some of the code in the script but it is easy to do. If you have trouble, just ask the techs for help. If I remember correctly it is no more than 500 messages per hour and set an 8 second delay between emails so the script doesn't send all 500 at once. I think 1 per 8 sec works out to 450/hr and helps you have a cushion.

Sorry this was kinda long and "Techie"

PS. Lypha is also a good hosting company if you don't want to use a self-run mailing list. If you use AWeber or GetResponse, etc. then they are great. Lots of space and good techs.

After being with a dozen hosting companies, I use Dreamhost and Bluehost for shared hosting and SingleHop for dedicated server (find a good, affordable and reliable dedicated server provider is especially difficult!).

Mike, I'm glad kiosk got their problems solved after moving to their new data center and you're happy with them again. I was a bit worried I'd made the wrong choice by signing up with them after my bad experience with hostgator. I feel better now about my decision to go with kiosk. They do seem to be the best choice for serious internet marketing.

I find Kiosk have been much worse since moving to the new data center. A lot of outages for one reason or another and I agree with the earlier comments about tech support not reading tickets properly. They were brilliant when they were in Canada.

Has anyone else noticed that Wordpress automatic upgrade doesn't work on Kiosk shared hosting since their domain was temporarily shut down by namecheap a few days ago?

I use Kiosk. Their servers are way faster than Hostgator, from what I can tell. Haven't noticed any downtime or problems really. Couple outtages here & there, nothing I can't live with considering the faster response times of my money sites. Faster response times=better google rankings.

I cancelled my hosting with Kiosk in October this year. They confirmed it was cancelled. However, in November they still took the annual fee for renewal from my PayPal Account.

Now they won't answer any emails or offer any explanation let alone return the money. Their customer service is non existent.

      Stay well clear.

BlueHost is definitely reliable for uptime and customer support, and I've also used and referred HostMonster to my clients; plus, they pay their affiliates really fast and I like that.

Hope your hosting transfer goes smoothly.

    Hi Mike,

well i see everyone is raving about hostgator but i use a webhost that knocks them down a peg.
webhostingpad.com is the best very reliable quick friendly support and it is only 73.00 for 3 yrs. everything included free domain name for a year domain transfer for 14.95 or you can simply switch to their name servers and direct it in cpanel to the site.
simply awesome and very rare do they have a down time 99.9 uptime
not an affiliate but i love em

Hey Mike, long time no see. Did that Mastermind group in KW ever come off? I am with www.xehost.net. Didn't even notice that Hastyhost got "acquired" but the transition was smooth, support excellent and they honored by previous price with them. So all in all I'm happy.
