You could simply use Google Analytics. It is free, and tracks a lot of details. It tracks visitors, page views, time spent on the site, traffic sources, keywords, etc...

Use different webpages. If you want to track autoresponder subscribers from different sources, create identical squeeze pages with different autoresponder code.

So on one squeeze page, name it "adwords" and save the page and autoresponder as "adwords leads". Then do the same for Microsoft Adcenter, blog advertising, or any high traffic website or solo ad sites that you're using.

I would recommend Google Analytics or GetClicky for basic stats on where visitors are coming from, what they are doing on your site, how long they stay, what they're browsing and where they exit. Set up goals to track things like opt-ins into your auto-responder.

For paid traffic, try Prosper202 or CPV Lab. I use Prosper202 and it works great for most circumstances, but I have heard good things about CPV Lab and will be giving it a test soon.

I totally recommend CPVLab.com. It's one of the best trackers we have tried, and use it for pretty much all our traffic campaigns... Banners, PPC, Pops, text links, email promos, and obviously, CPV

My favorite feature allows you to just keep making and adding new landing pages and offers so you have a kind of "rolling" split-test. One of our campaigns has 47 different landing pages, allowing us to get our lead costs down from $45 to about $5, which has made that particular promotion pretty profitable.

It's probably overkill for a newbie or someone just getting their feet wet with paid media, so if that's you, try to find a version of AdTrackz (self-hosted) or even use Hypertracker in the interim. But when you are ready to step up, and have $300 and a few hours to figure it out, it'll change your life.

Analytics and stats programs aren't trackers, they are activity monitors, and are not effective for tracking ads or media promotions. They tell you *in aggregate* what your visitors do, which pages they visit, how long they stay, where they come from, etc. A true tracker like CPVLab or Prosper will track an individual user through your sales funnel, allowing to you check the profitability of your ads and giving you actual ROI numbers.

If you're beginning with IM I advise you start with the free methods of tracking your traffic. Google analytics works great or you can install a free copy of the pretty links plugin.

CPV Lab offers amazing support, training, and software upgrades. They listen to their users, correct problems, and add features. They will even install it for you if you have an issue. I used Prosper for a while, but found the lack of documentation problematic. But if you don't have the money and are adept of script installation, by all means start with Prosper. It's a fine solution that works, just not as elegantly.
