WP QUESTION: Optimize Press vs. ClickBump 6 with JumpStart Pro ???

Hello WF Members:

I hope this is the best sub-forum to run this question.

Does anyone have experience with both the following Affiliate Sales oriented WP themes?
  • OPTIMIZE PRESS (by James Dyson)
  • CLICKBUMP 6 with JUMPSTART PRO (by Scott Blanchard).
    .
  • Are they comparable for the purpose of CPA/CPS marketing?
    .
  • What are the PROS and CONS of each?
    .
  • Does one have distinct advantages over the other... particularly set-up time, conversion value and Web speed?
.
Thanks much in advance for prompt responses that are straight-up and detailed to help render a well-informed purchase decision.

Positively,
Alan

post #32 | ... I've got developer's licenses for Thesis, Genesis, Premise, and I also have Canvas (by Woothemes). All I can say is that OP is probably the best theme investment I've ever made. It does everything it claims to do, and it does it well...

See: Is Click Bump Engine Any Good

post #2 | ... In a word, yes. At least in my experience. I started using the themes a couple months ago and for ads ense sites with comparable competition I've seen them ranking quite a bit quicker. I can throw up sites in a hurry with them too.

post #5 | ... For Adsense and other types of niche sites, Clickbump Engine is unbeatable, especially when you combine it with the Jumpstart and Clickbump SEO plugins.

post #11 | ... I honestly can't recommend it enough. You will literally see that with Adsense or even other monetization methods, the Clickbump tools will pay for themselves in no time at all because of the increased rankings and earnings that you'll achieve.

post #18 | ... We use clickbump all the time for our themes, dont look else where as the seo is already done within the engine itself and Scott is always updating the theme and improving it, he's support is brilliant too!!!

post #22 | ... Another one for Clickbump here. It's so easy to build sites, and they rank so well with little work. One posted mentioned that it may be trying to do too much with affiliate site and review site templates, but I think it's a good thing. I don't have to buy several different themes if I want to vary my strategies at any time.

Now the comments in the above posts are all provide value... however they do not disclose the differences in feature sets and capabilities between OPTIMIZE PRESS and CLICKBUMP + JUMPSTART PRO.

If anyone has experience with each of the above themes... please do provide some insights.

Thanks in advance for prompt and detailed responses!

Hi Alan, thanks very much for your interest and including my product in this review.

Since I don't have either of the other two themes you mention, I can't really offer a point by point comparison between my software and theirs. I have heard of both of them and from what I understand, they are solid products and well supported.

My theme's core strengths (to keep this brief) are:

    1) Speed - I've optimized my software for speed. This is the overriding principle that governs everything I do with this theme. It HAS to be fast and any enhancement I add must be optimized for speed. My Canvas4 demo site gets a 98/100 on Google's PageSpeed.

    2) Eliminates Dozens of Plugins - The theme has built in tools that would otherwise require plugins such as:

    - SEO Friendly Slider widget
    - Category Landing Pages with WYSISYG editor and image upload
    - Related Posts Menus
    - Category Index option for Home Page
    - Social Media integration on each post
    - Google Authorship integration
    - Ad Manager
    - Over 4 dozen custom template skins available for a variety of niches
    - Default skins (and many optional ones) are mobile optimized
    - Google web fonts integration
    - Built in Opt-in form with Contact Form 7 Integration

    3) One Theme, Unlimited Designs - I've designed the core theme so that you can instantly change the look and feel with the addition of template skins which install into the core theme with 1 click. In addition, you can control many look and feel options with point and click options and the rest with easily accessible custom css hooks.

    4) Optimized for SEO without need for Plugins - The software was built with SEO in mind from the first lines of code. Things like multiple page/post titles for better SEO targeting, Rich text enabled category landing pages and enforcement of sound SEO fundamentals without requiring third party plugins have always characterized this theme.

    5) Semantic, HTML5 Code - The theme has been coded according to Yahoo Site Speed best practices. To get consistent, out of the box page speeds in the high 90's requires adherence to a rigid set of best practices and coding standards. I enforce these in my framework with passion. All scripts are combined into a single file, minified and optimized. CSS and font assets are loaded in the head section and interactive scripts are loaded in the footer, just before the closing body tag. When taken as a whole, each one of these dozen or so optimization techniques lead to a fast loading, semantically coded and search friendly web site that rewards both users and search engine crawlers.

    6) First Class Support - The software purchase comes with a robust support forum in which I personally monitor and contribute to daily, along with lots of expert users of the software

Thank you Scott for some additional details. Here's a brief abstract of ClickBump features from post #6 :
      1) Speed - ... 98/100 on Google's PageSpeed.

      2) Flexibility - I've designed the core theme so that you can instantly change the look and feel...

      3) SEO Baked In without Plugins - … built with SEO in mind from the first lines of code... without requiring third party plugins have always characterized this theme.

      .
      .
Here are some additional technical comments (excepts) I have found by CLICKBUMP's developer, Scott Blanchard (clickbump) while scouring WF ... which I think better explains some of the technical features and strengths ClickBump 4 (earlier version):
      .
post #34 | The way I achieve static site speeds with a dynamic page generation engine is that I build my sites as if they ARE static. If you look at the view source on one of my sites, you can see this pretty clearly. My theme has a complete separation of style and structure.

I'm not doing anything groundbreaking or novel in that regard. After all, its basic "Web Standards" design best practices to use structurally semantic xhtml and clean, well-formed css in linked, cache-friendly stylesheets. However, only a fraction of all WordPress themes are coded to fully leverage this technique.

The second thing is that over the years, I've learned a trick or two about how to get more out of 50 lines of css than some themes take 1000 to do. It sounds like I'm bragging but I think its probably more reflective of just how little attention many theme designers have paid to efficient css design techniques.

... Clean coding beats Sh@t coding regardless of platform.

The difference in then and now is that now I have an incredibly robust platform to manage site structure and navigation and customer feedback and post/page comments and rss and social media integration and on and on...All the things that can really be a hassle to maintain, if you are trying to do it all yourself (like in the old days of truly static sites, anyone remember GoLive Studio?)

But for me, once I discovered WP, I sought to take everything I'd learned about static pages and build a theme for that platform where you couldn't tell the difference between it and a static site.
      .
Scott, if you would bring us all up to date on the latest version, ClickBump 6... that would be great.

The version 6 features are built on top of the same structure that's discussed above. Clean, semantic html5 markup that's fast and adapts to mobile devices as efficiently as with desktop browsers.

Version 6 adds more tightening of the markup and code including moving the scripts to the footer and combining them into a single, minified, file to further reduce http requests on the server.

The CSS, as has always been the case, is loaded into the head section for speed, and its minified and optimized for speed as it has been from the beginning.

If one were to utilize a WP theme like OPTIMIZE PRESS, I would be seriously considering using a well-selected LIST of up-to-date, compliant WP plugins.

You state in your WSO sales copy above: zero plugins. I find it difficult to believe that any one WP theme could take into account all of the needs and functionality that well-designed plugins can bring to the party!
            .
I could have PM'd the entire list to you... but for practical and academic reasons... I have chosen to publicly share a partial list (limited for this specific post)... so that any and all WF members can benefit from this research exercise.
            ..
I would appreciate your comments on each PLUGIN... whether it's REDUNDANT relative to the zero plugin internal capabilities of the ClickBump theme... OR would it be your best advice to include implementation of certain plugins to expand the feature sets of both WP and the ClickBump theme?

A WordPress optimization plugin that automatically updates all images with proper ALT and TITLE attributes. If your images do not have ALT and TITLE already set, SEO Friendly Images will add them according to the options you set. Additionally this makes the post W3C/xHTML valid as well. ALT attribute is important part of search engine optimization. It describes your image to search engine and when a user searches for a certain image this is a key determining factor for a match. Do not underestimate the power of properly optimized images.

Note that all thumbnails will also be renamed. If you are using a caching plugin, such as WP Super Cache, then you will need to clear your cache so that any references are updated. This plugin does not update existing direct links to files (links inside a WordPress gallery will change).

It's a weekend, so we haven't heard back from Scott Blanchard yet (developer of ClickBump).

In the meantime I thought I would continue to address the FORMS plugin issue which I did not include in post #10.

Scott recently posted the following at:

Supercharged Contact Forms with ClickBump 6
              source: clickbump.com/cf7

Hi Alan, you are correct. Its impossible to account for the functionality of EVERY conceivable plugin. It would be more accurate to say "Eliminates the need for dozens of plugins" (and I've updated my sales copy to reflect this)

What I'm describing is a wide array of specific functionality that is included with the theme, that would otherwise require a plugin.

For example, the most popular plugin for WordPress sites, by a wide margin, is All in One SEO. The theme handles this plugin's most common functions such as Post Title management and custom post titles (separate from menu titles), metadata management, no-follow management etc.

The theme takes it quite a bit further to include additional functions like custom h1 titles and the ability to streamline the site owner's workflow by auto inserting the post "Tags" and post/page excerpts into the page's description and keywords metadata fields.

In addition, here are some of the most popular plugin categories and how the theme addresses this need without requiring a plugin:

              - Google Ad Management > The software has a robust ad manager for both Adsense and third party ad networks like Amazon, Chitika and ClickBank.
              > Plugins Replaced: "Quick Adsense" and others

              - Google Authorship Manager > Integrates your Google authorship profile on a post by post basis and allows you to have you bio photo next to SERPS listings.
              > Plugins Replaced: "WP Google Authorship" and others

              - Google Web Fonts > Google Web Fonts are backed into the theme to allow the site owner to specify custom fonts for site title, tagline and "H" level headings (h1-h6) and sidebar widget titles throughout the site via point and click settings in theme options.
              > Plugins Replaced: "WP Google Fonts" and others

              - Related Posts > This is one of the most popular plugin categories. The theme has built in functions for related posts (on posts and categories) as well as a "Latest Posts" menu for the homepage.
              > Plugins Replaced: "Yet Another Related Posts Plugin" and others

              - Menu Thumbnails > Automatically loads your post's featured image thumbnail in menu listings (Related Posts, for example).
              > Plugins Replaced: "Auto Post Thumbnail" and others

              - Widget Visibility > The addition of a "Widget Visibility" panel allows you to specify whether widgets appear on posts, pages, categories, home page, 404 page, search page, etc...
              > Plugins Replaced: "Widget Context" and others

              - Social Sharing Widgets > The ability to place sharing links (Twitter Tweet, Facebook Like, Google +1) on a post by post basis.
              > Plugins Replaced: "Share This" and others

              - Google +1 Unlock feature > This functionality is included as an option for offering value added content to readers who click your "Google +1" button (eg, click the +1 button and get a special PDF).
              > Plugins Replaced: "Plus One Profits"

              - Slider Widget > Built in slider widget that's tightly integrated with the theme and can be customized via theme options as well as individual template skins.
              > Plugins Replaced: "Slide Deck", "Flex Slider" and others

              - Rich text category editor > The theme is one of the few to include a WYSIWYG content editor for categories, along with the ability to upload a featured image for each category, as well as custom category meta data.
              > Plugins Replaced: "Rich Text Tags"

              - Excerpts on pages > The ability to add excerpts to pages as well as posts.
              > Plugins Replaced: "Advanced Excerpt" and others

              - Featured Image Links > The ability to add custom links to featured images.
              > Plugins Replaced: There is no known plugin that replicates this functionality as of this time.

              - Graphical Category Index on Home Page > Adds a custom category index on your home page with thumbnails and category summaries.
              > Plugins Replaced: There is no known plugin that replicates this functionality as of this time.

              - Facebook Open Graph > The theme will automatically insert Facebook's "Open Graph" tags into the head of your pages and posts for better social sharing accuracy.

Appreciate the concise, updated plugin info for ClickBump 6 (CE6) in your post above (#12).

You have listed 14 "specific functionalities" programmed into CE6, which would otherwise require 3rd party plugins... most of which provide a different functionality or do not duplicate the 7-plugins I listed in post #10.

I am surprised that some WF Members experienced with either Optimize Press or ClickBump have not yet chimed in... however based upon this form thread alone... I want to press forward in testing ClickBump for my CPA/CPS marketing projects for the following reasons:
                • Scott's helpful participation in this WF thread;
                • Access to Scott on WF and internal CE Forum;
                • Eastern Time Zone based (EST vs. GMT);
                • Coded for HIGH-SPEED (hi-priority for Google Page-1 rankings);
                • Innovative thinking and implementation.
                .
I have a (full) list of candidate plugins which I'd like to have reviewed prior to installing within CE6.
                • If it makes good sense to you, I will post this within the ClickBump forum (dashboard.clickbump.com/forums) where it can receive your attention as well as that of other experienced CE6 users.

I am grateful for this forum and the clarifications that have been obtained. Honestly, I found the sales copy for ClickBump to be rather incomplete and without well organized continuity... which I believe has done the CE theme some potential injustice. Frankly, I have considerably more confidence in the CE theme and its developer than I did when I started the thread. For this I am grateful.

Scott, please find my PM to you regarding your WSO specifics.

                Positively,
                Alan

abrandt, thanks for this thread! I am just starting to build some sites with WP and so was looking into a good theme to use. A mentor recommended clickbump OR CTR theme and I knew nothing about either. I was surprised they are both so expensive - I was hoping for something like $20-30 so I could just try one and see how it was. But since it's more than that I felt the need to do some research.

My research led me to this thread!

I'm surprised no one has jumped in here to recommend Optimize press or other themes such as CTR. If you don't mind I'd like to ask anyone who has used it to compare clickbump to ctr.

Also I'd like to ask Scott - if he's still monitoring this thread - how his seo compares to using Yoast's plug in. Most people seem to use either allinoneseo or yoast. I loaded yoast into a wp site I'm building and immediately I was stumped as to which options to choose for certain things. And that's the thing about Yoast I've heard - that there's a learning curve and it's a bit complex. I'm all for learning it but just don't have time right now.

I'm leaning towards clickbump simply because it is apparently optimized for seo. And Scott, I assume you have re-optimized it since Penguin?

One more question for Scott. Your theme is set up for Adsense. Will it work well for amazon too, or not? Or should I buy a particular theme for amazon? I have not built amazon sites yet so am not sure what the difference would be. I guess placement of products vs placement of ads... ;-D I do have some amazon plug ins in any case so would those work with Clickbump to make it "amazon friendly" and yet still provide the seo I need?

Hopefully you can address these questions!

update: Scott, I just saw that you offer clickbump 6 with jumpstartpro and your seo plug in for other themes both at a great discount right now, so I just bought both.

I liked the fact that you participate in the webmaster section of the WF and that you obviously are involved in building sites and making money with them and so it seems to me you're a good person to be building themes; that plus many positive reviews.

So anyway I decided to end my research right here, and jump in and buy your theme and plug in. I really want to get started building a couple sites asap so your discount allowed me to just jump in now and give your theme a shot. Thank you for participating in this thread and I still would like to hear your answers to my questions above.
