    Hi Laurian,

Each software has its own advantages.

Their features are different. So read the sales page carefully before purchase.

Overall I like Market Samurai the best and use it most. That being said, I also use Micro Niche Finder as well. If I were only allowed 1 out of the 3, hands down for me it's market Samurai.

Loz, you are great guy and I have bought your product too and I am a KE owner. BUT I don't like the fact that it does not use the google external keyword data.

Now if you tell me that situation is changing, I would be very happy !!

            Hi ya mate

google external data, what ya mean mate, the suggestion tool, or the search numbers it spits out? If the latter, then I agree, but that's not cos Brad doesn't want to, it's due to the fact that Google hasn't released it out in their API yet.

So it uses a 3rd party to get the numbers to find aggregate data collected from a few sources... all one has to do is multiply the figures for searches shown by 3 for google

Hey Loz, h'u doing mate. Good to see you here. U The Man

              I mean https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal
That's the one I want, that's the one I care for. For me, this is it.

But then keyword external does not always give me all the related keywords (and the laterals). So I like to use Proj 1 in KE for that (I have not tried it actually, but that is what I am planning), and then importing that into Market Sam.

tag2453, you *can* install Market Samurai on more than one computer - you can install it on *two* computers, and without an extra licence - how cool is that.

I recently started a website devoted to Market Samurai resources and reviews (see my sig for the link). Since you already use the software, you might like to check out my latest Market Samurai tips and also the list of Market Samurai videos in the post before that.

Laurian, I love Market Samurai. This software does so much more than you might already know. Much, much more than just research.

To check up some of the other things it can do for you, you can view the whole salesletter (there's a link to it on the right-hand side of my site) scroll down to about two thirds down the salespage, and you'll see a whole list of things that will surprise you.

        So...?
        What is the point?

You can install all of the freeware keyword tools on all of your computers.

And you can install the paid programs like KeyWordElite and MicroNicheFinder on multiple computers, not just two, with ease. You do not have to make changes or go through a CIA waterboarding to get it done.

internetmarketer 99, the competition results (SEOC) in Market Samurai are taken straight from Google; they're the results of the phrase-match searches (made in quotes), so you need to do the comparison search as "your keyword" in quotes. Also, you want to make sure that you're using exactly the same settings in Market Samurai as you're using in Google.

      Hey Ray,

I think the clock expired on this, but if you ping 30DC 2009 version, there "was" a 40% discount on Samurai.

As a 30 day challenger, you can now get Market Samurai for $87 instead of the regular price of $149. That's a discount of 42%. I can't believe the Noble Samurai boys are offering Market Samurai at this price but there it is...what can I do.

PS: I bought MNF (v4.2) 6 months ago ~ who wants it for 33% off?

Nearly every result I got was waaaaay different than Wordtracker and SEOBook.

In fact, when I checked the "competition" results, which is verifiable via Google, every one I checked was completely off.

I really want MS to fulfill it's 'promise', but I've found the results to be very unreliable.

It pulls from google external tool not wordtracker (which is a good thing to most people), so they would be different. Edit: actually results are 100% reliable against google external keyword tool.

There's a promotion currently going on. If you buy during the first 7 days of your 12-day trial, it's $97. For the 5 days after that, it's $127. Once your trial has ended, the price goes back up to the normal $149.

[Edit note: previously in this post I referred to using a link on my site. I've now deleted that from this post. Yes, use the Market Samurai links on my blog by all means (please ) but the promo is for *all* new subscribers.]

allow multiple key phrases to be entered together, just like google external. It is tedious right now.. if I am researching 'white teeth' and 'white tooth' have to create two searches - tedious. Or maybe I am missing something.

Steve, do you mean that you want to know the figures for each of 'white teeth' and 'white tooth', or do you mean you want to get related keywords for each of them?

            1. If you want the data for each, then open a tab for, say, white teeth, and then type white tooth into the "Add Keywords" box & click Update. You can paste a whole lot of other keywords into that box & click Update.

            2. If you want to get a whole lot of related keywords for each, then the easiest way is to open up two separate tabs.

Or did you mean something else?

Is the upgrade promo still on for the first 7 days?

Give you FREE access to three more cutting-edge "Bonus" modules

I don't *think* that will happen tomorrow, because right about now a lot of new Market Samurai users will be queuing up to buy as a result of the Thirty Day Challenge course that used Market Samurai. But I'm not privy to their secrets.

      This is a common concern.

The truth is, reliability isn't the real issue.

Market Samurai can only ever display the data that it finds (it's software - it just performs a simple process).

But unless you know the process it's using, you'll never get the same results if you try to duplicate them manually.

So although people often worry about Market Samurai being slightly different to the data they receive manually, it's usually because they're gathering the data in a slightly different way.

Let me show you what I mean...

Originally Posted by internetmarketer99 View Post

      Yes.

SEOBook's keyword suggestion tool uses Wordtracker's keyword suggestion tool. (So they *should* match each-other)

But Market Samurai will ALMOST NEVER match either of them. We do something that I think is much more accurate - we use Google's own data.

Wordtracker uses data from meta search engines - like Dogpile. Unfortunately, most people these days don't use meta search engines anymore - most people use Google data. So Wordtracker needs to scale-up its data to estimate how much traffic there might be on the larger search engines.

So if Dogpile has [say] 1% of the search market, and Google has 80%, and Dogpile is your source of data, you could assume that 80 days worth of Dogpile data is equal to 1 day of Google searches... But unfortunately, this isn't always the case.

For example, most internet marketers would use Google to search for products and services - not meta search engines... Likewise programmers, and other tech-savvy people. So the data gets skewed in some markets.

Market Samurai uses Google's own keyword traffic data to estimate traffic levels.

It sounds obvious - I know - but Market Samurai was the first keyword tool to do this.

Originally Posted by internetmarketer99 View Post

When we're checking competition results, there are two things we check:

      1. The number of competitors (the SEO Competitor counts that you see in the Keyword Research module), and;
      2. The strength of competition (the SEO Competition Analysis module)

Let's look at both of these.

The SEO Competitor counts are based on phrase-matched results in Google.

So if your keyword is dog training (to pick a good internet marketing example ) then Market Samurai will do a Google search for "Dog Training" (in quotes) to find out how many web-sites are using that phrase.

It's a much more indicative measure of competition - because there's a big difference between "credit cards" and companies that make greeting "cards" that shop owners can buy on "credit"... Or "dog training" and a video store's web-site that stocks both "training" day and reservoir "dogs"

In that way, Market Samurai is counting the number of sites that at least mention the keyword phrase... Because it's the most basic thing a web-site can do if they want to compete for rankings on the keyword.

      Now, SEO Competition Analysis...

This is the top 10 results in Google for a keyword, and their SEO factors.

This is affected by your project settings - so you'll get different results if you select "All Countries and Territories" to "Botswana" to "United States".

Or if you're comparing results that you search manually, to results that Market Samurai gathers for a specific region. (Because Google will automatically try to tailor results to where it sees you're from)

Or if you're logged into a Google account when you search (again, because Google will try to tailor results to where it sees you're from)

Or if you try doing a search in Internet Explorer, and then try again with Firefox or Safari or Chrome (because for some weird reason, Google shows different results to users of different browsers)

      HOWEVER...

...what Market Samurai is getting is an average, typical top 10 competitor snapshot for the region that you have selected.

Google has 100's, perhaps 1,000's, or even 10,000's of servers all displaying search results (each with slightly different data) - and they want to tailor results to users.

But what Market Samurai does is uses a smart system for getting typical results from any region in the world, tailored to any language in the world.

So although Google might change its data in different circumstances, what you see in Market Samurai will be very similar to what searchers see (if they're coming from the region that you selected in Market Samurai)

I hope this helps you out.

      Brent

@curiousguy, if you download MS right now (free), then I think there is a 7 day deadline for getting it at $97. After that it would be $147 or something.

I got it at $97. So far so good. As I said, I am not throwing away my KElite, and will use that to get thousands of keywords (proj 1) and then run that thru MS, and let MS take care of it from there.

    Hi
    I own all 3 programs

I no longer use SEO ELite

Market Samurai Has a LOT of features
    and different functions.

Micro niche finder doesnt have all the
    different functions as MS does,
But I do use MNF to analyze data from MS...
    so go figure...

I use both MNF and MS now,
they have different functions and different purposes.
MNF has some free vids to watch to show some ways it
    is being used.

MNF has a lower price tag than MS,
    and u can buy a MNF-to-go, a version that
is available on USB drive, and installable
on more than one machine also.
Or you can get the standard download...

I have MNF it doesn't do that good of a job finding long tail keyphrases but I cross reference with other free tools. I have not tried MS yet because you can't register for seo digger anymore and I also heard that it doesn't measure the strenght of competition.

Second: Are you sure about $97 for market samurai during trial period?
I decided to buy it but the price is $167 ?Where can 1 buy it at $97?
It's been $97 for new subscribers since 19th May (and I think for some time before that), but only if you'd bought Market Samurai in the first 7 days of your trial. For the next 5 days of your trial it would have been $127 to buy, and after that it's the full price, ie $149. Those are the same figures I wrote in my May 20th post in this thread.

I see from an earlier post that you'd already taken up your trial on May 5th. So your 12-day trial period would have ended on or before May 17th, depending on what date you started the trial, which is why you're being asked to pay the normal price.

The normal price is $149 not $167 - I think you might have been reading this bit of the sales page: "free upgrade to our "Mystery Module" - (to be released in the next 4-6 weeks) - value $167"

To reiterate, the $97 offer is for people who buy within the first 7 days of their trial. It's an incentive to buy earlier rather than later.

Market Samurai is definitely the bst for SEO. It much more than just Keyword Research and has so many usefull functions that you cannt do proper SEO without it.

If you need something for PPC then it's probably not the best. KeywordSpy and Spyfu will probably be better at giving you exact money earner keywords.

I've been using Market Samurai now for 3 months and find it extremely useful. It is great for finding niche markets that have high search and low web presence. Well worth the investment. The other great thing is that the developers are always improving the product. Just about every time I load the software there is an upgrade waiting to be installed!

      Regards

I prefer MS. over the others. however they all have their advantages.

MS tends to have the best data and I think it has to do with comparing data with google trends. If you follow ed dale. He taught this 2 years ago in 30 day challenge.

I'm very solidly in the Market Samurai camp. The free keyword research module is worth more than most paid keyword tools on its own, and when you add in the other SEO functions, it seems like a no brainer to me.

If I could only keep one it would be MS. MS is such a comprehensive tool you can find niches with it if you know how to work it.

MS allows you to do more than just keyword research it goes much further ...

But if I was on a sinking ship and could only take one ... MS would be it.

after watching the videos i bought MNF only to be disappointed in the customer service, there is none. i emailed my questions several times and got no response.

the most trouble some feature is you can't toggle between searches. i end up saving alot of the same kw because i cant remember if i saved them or not.

i realize james is busy but i feel if you sell a product you should take care of your customers questions. if he is to busy hire someone.

I see I do need to import from googles keyword tool
then MS will supply the data, MS doesn't seem to capture
        all the long-tails.

There is so much data I find it hard to choose keywords,
what should I base my choices on, there are many ways to look
        at the data.

I'll probably get MNF also until I have a clear strategy for MS,
        it is similar to themezoom.

Hope MS comes out with a video explaining step by step
how to create a content site using MS.

      Hello!

I own Market Samurai and Micro Niche Finder.

Micro Niche Finder offers a wonderful one-page display with easy red, yellow, and green indicators to summarize the keyword potential. Also, its creator, marketer James Jones, is generous, helpful and talented. The upgrades come frequently, and the Help Desk works very well. You'll never have buyer's remorse because of his efforts.

The one major drawback of Micro Niche FInder is it doesn't run off a proxy (or whatever I'm supposed to call it). That means that Google will block searches after way too short a period. Research is slow as a result, although James tries to fix the problem by allowing background search options.

Market Samurai offers a complete array of solid keyword bells and whistles plus wonderful new training videos. Ed Dale and his crew offer excellent support and upgrades. Market Samurai flies because of the upgrades, and it doesn't quit because it runs on a proxy.

Often the OCI competitive indicator is slow or quits in both of these programs. It wasn't built to withstand the onslaught of keyword searching that goes on daily. Maybe it doesn't matter: Adwords costs are probably a better competitive indicator anyway.

I'm happy to own them both plus others dedicated to specialized searches. Good luck!

Market Samurai is the last tool I will ever use for keyword research, back linking, and finding content. When I first tried Market Samurai I had tested out the unfinished beta version, and even then I was so amazed at how easy it made keyword research for me. Then after it was finished all the features that were added to my Market Samurai arsenal truly makes Market Samurai the best market research tool I have ever tried, and trust me I have tried many. Being as lazy as I am I always seem spend money on tools that claim they will make keyword research easier. In my opinion Market Samurai definitely over delivered.

In your guy's opinion, what's the better indicator of competitition for your keyword? I'm using the trial for both Market Samurai and Keyword Elite. Would it be Market Samurai's "SEOTCR" or Keyword Elite's "Competition Strength". I saw in results they differed from each other so I'm confused now.

What about the best keyword tool for SEO and not PPC? I think some of those you mentioned above are great for PPC but I think that something like Keyword Discovery which draws results from organic search traffic and does not mix in google PPC click counts may be what people are looking for when doing SEO research for keywords?

          I agree!!!

          Finally, someone with some sense.

There are uses for the paid keyword tools and we can all argue about their virtues and defaults until the radiation debilitates us, but the free tools work just as good for the average marketer and for finding the best results in each particular search engine that you may be using.

          It is common sense.

If you are targeting a market that is already owned, online and offline, by major corporations, then it doesn't matter what keyword tool, SEO tool, or newest marketing tool that you buy or use, you will not win. You might catch a small corner of their market for a while, but trust me from experience, they will grab it back with a vengeance if they think that they are losing money to your advertising.

If you are sending them money, or customers, then they will usually allow you to stay in the marketplace as an affiliate.

In other words, unless you already have an established name or brand don't rock the boat, or you will might suffer a Tsunami. Be satisfied with what you get and try to get more everyday, unless you have something new and unusual.

Build upon what you know and learn and set a solid foundation with these. You can not go wrong.

I am not trying to dissuade anyone from entrepreneurship. I am only trying to let you all know that to argue the virtues of one paid software product over another is almost like betting on what city in Libia is going to be controlled by the Regime or by the Opposition Forces, on a given day.

I have KE, MNF, and MS, on my computer and to be very honest, I seldom use any of them.

They are okay for certain things but trust me I have much better results using other tactics. It may be due to my offline learning. I marketed for years offline with great success and learned a lot about the principles.

My simple point is that this debate can go on endlessly. My suggestion is for all of you to purchase all three, as I have, and compare them for yourself.

I can guarantee that you will never arrive at a consensus. And this is due to your specific needs, desires, wants, habits, and learning.

There will never be one program that will satisfy everyone, or even the majority, and if you find that program I want to find one that is better or different.

Keeping up with changes is what truly differentiates products and programs.

I have not found one yet that does this to my personal satisfaction, and I doubt that I ever will. Because everything changes with time, and daily, and monthly, searches are just like this.

If you are not relying on the current events for your sales, you do not need or require any of these paid keyword tools. Simple Fact.

      Hi Folks,

I want to tell you about my experience with Micro Niche Finder.

      It just doesn't work.

The programmers have sent me update after update and none of them work. I spent $147 for this piece of junk. It seemed to work a couple of years ago, but not this year. It all seemed to fall apart when they updated the software. I went to support many times and finally I decided not to touch it anymore because it was degrading my pc and even causing it to freeze up so I would have to reboot. Support no longer contacts me.

It is a piece of junk.

      Do not buy it.

      Buy Market Samurai. It rocks.

    Hi Everyone,

I have bought Market Samurai last month. There is only word to describe the software and support: "Excellent" Why I say that is because the software literally gives the data I want to dominate my Niche market by spotting the best buyers keywords.

I have no comments about other keyword research software. Normally I do not use a keyword research software to do my keyword research before purchasing the software. But after downloading the trial version and using it for a day, I am convinced of the speed of gathering data. It is just in mere mins and secs. I am shock and amazed by this software.

The support they provide:Superb. When I have problems in using the software, they solve the problems straight away.

I have been a happy user of Keyword Elite for a couple of years but not any longer.

I have always used the PPC cost function in KE so i can see what keywords will give me the best adsense clicks.
It has always worked fine and then about a month ago this feature stopped working so i contacted the helpdesk who said it was being looked into and there would be an update soon.

I waited a month and still no update so i contacted them again and this is the reply i got

I'm sorry, but the Adwords Traffic Estimator is no longer functioning.
The programmer has not been able to fix it. We do apoligize for this
inconveinence. You can use the Adwords Traffic Estimator from within
your Google Adwords account after logging in there.

So they are basically saying go use Adwords keyword tool instead and hard luck that you have bought software you can no longer use.

The answer most people are going to tell you is...drumroll please...

Whatever pays the most through an affiliate program! What's the hot and trendy and flavor of the month?

I downloaded Market Samurai and I think it's a good tool. I tried some the early -early versions so I know it's more evolved now. I own the Micronichefinder and know it works.

Market Samurai seems to have more bells and whistles, but is new and still has "growing pains" and the Micronicher Finder to me seems to be a more stable / mature platform. (That's my bias creepin in) If you aren't broke. Heck Use both. Microniche Finder videos and marketing/ sales page are so advanced that they can be explained to people that can barely operate a browser. The Samurai seems to be targeted at a slightly more advanced marketer. Those are my two cents.

Plus I want them back someday at 10% compounded interest over 30 years wired to a bank account.

I'm working with MS again, the best way to use any of these
keyword software products is to import your own keywords.

They are basically keyword analysis tools, not keyword generators,
unless they have a good api agreement.

              I'm using Google keyword tool.

Does MNF let you import keywords.

Brad, I was about to buy Market Samurai until reading this thread. Will the price be competitive with the introductory $97 offer of Market Samurai? Can you give me (us) any more insight to its features? Will it be worth the wait? Thanks for any input. Take care.

      Hi, TShipp

      I found this on Google...

"Keyword research is NOT all about the number of searches a keyword has and the number of competing sites for a specific keyword. The true key here is knowing the STRENGTH OF COMPETITION (SoC).

The Strengh of Competition includes several variables, mainly: PageRank, page reputation, site authority, incoming links, PageRank of incoming links, relevance of content and many others (over 200 variables according to Google).

Which is why MNF takes the win, it actually measures the Strength of Competition and it gives you an opinion:

Green Light: Go for it now.
      Yellow Light: Hard but possible.
      Red Light: Close to impossible.

      MNF is the winner...?!

I own both MNF and Market Samurai. I use them both daily. With MNF it gives you the green light instantly but you get the same information with Market Samurai you just have to analyze your dater a little longer.

Market Samurai just released a feature the other day that lets you monitor your sites keyword rankins in Google, Yahoo, MSN, Youtube and some Web 2.0 properties. Very powerful stuff if you consider it Moniters the top 1000 results.

Should be an interesting Summer now that Keyword Elite 2 is coming out but Im loving this new Market Samurai feature.

    Hi,

I own KE and MNF and think the ease-of-use of MNF is an advantage although they are not as flexible on the source of search engine data as KE is. Now, I was just contemplating purchasing SEO Elite (SE) until someone referred me to Market Samurai.
I understand SE helps you do a detailed analysis of top 10 competition and what
their backlink sources are qualified by strength.

Can anyone tell me if Market Samurai accomplishes the same functions as
KE & SE combined? So, if I can get my site on page 2 or 3, does it help me
analyze or quantify what sort of backlink campaign it would take to crawl
my way up on page 1 rankings?

    Thanks

    George

MS has done another upgrade - and all of them have been FREE for current users.

I can't vouch for their customer service as I've never had to use it! I've really never had a real problem with MS - reading this thread just made me realize that. I'm not a affiliate though I'm starting to think why not? I really love this software.

I haven't used MicroNiche so can't comment on that.

KE is better at creating 200+ keyword lists. So if you're doing PPC campaigns it is worth it for that alone.

MS is the best tool at finding how competitive a niche is IMO. Not only of those 3, but of all the tools and systems I've seen,

Come on! All product owners will say that their products are one of the best in the world

      The point is...

If you can send a rocket to the moon by using this simple feature: E = mc2
Then, there is no need to use this complicated feature: E = (3mc3 - mc3)/2mc

Because they both yield the SAME result.

      Simplicity is the key, man

None of these. These tools are "MAINLY" niche finders and keyword research tools, with a few minor SEO features thrown in.

I would suggest looking for an SEO Software product, rather than a keyword tool.

I have both Keyword Elite and Market Samurai.

I decided to purchase Keyword Elite a few years back when it was first released and I loved it back then, however the internet has evolved and the search engines have changed so quickly and now its a completely different ball game.

Yes Keyword Elite has updated itself along the way, but if you are looking for 1 piece of software to do literally all of your Keyword Research, SEO research and analysis and find articles etc. then Market Samurai is the king that comes out on top.

I have had Market Samurai for a few months now and I must say I have fallen in love with it. The user interface is aesthetically pleasing. There are many different modules all easily accessible on the left side of the software whenever you need them.

These include Rank Tracker (to see where your domains rank for different keywords on different search engines). There's Keyword Research, SEO Research, Find Content & Promotion modules available too, however the software is constantly being updated and there are other modules due for release in the future such as Adwords, Monetization etc.

Keyword Elite does not run on a Mac whereas Market Samurai does so thats a big point for Mac users and I know most people are switching or have already switched to Mac to run their internet businesses.

    They always have been free.

    Hrm... this doesn't sound right.

When you create a Market Samurai project, and go into the keyword research area, click the "Google Keyword Tool" and "SKTool" boxes...

    Then, click "Generate Keywords"

This will generate a list of up to 2,000 keywords for you (from Google's Keyword Tool and their Search Based Keyword Tool... There's no need to visit these sites manually - Market Samurai does it for you)

The Google Keyword Tool keywords will be semantically related (good for themezoom-style)

The Google Search Based Keyword Tool keywords will be long-tail.

You're right - there's a lot of data that comes back.

Here's what I look at inside Market Samurai...

    1. I want a High Traffic keyword - so I pick something that has an SEOT score of at least 80 (that's at least 80 hits per day from that keyword to the #1 site in Google)..

So I set an "SEOT" filter of 80.

    2. I want a Low Competition keyword - so I pick keywords that have fewer than 100,000 competitors.

So I set an "SEOC" filter of 100,000.

    3. I want traffic that is valuable, not worthless - so I pick keywords that have at least $10 worth of traffic per day. (That's why I set an SEOV filter of $10)

    Hi All

I use market samurai for niche marketing. I have multiple niche online wordpress sites that collect opt ins and sell a clickbank ebook.

I add all my keywords to market samurai as projects, then add my domain names and the MS rank tracker tracks the rankings in Bing, yahoo, Google.

I definitely have to put my vote in for Market Samurai.
It is the real deal and they've just released more modules, giving it even more killer functionality.

I've been using Keyword Elite for some time now and it gets the job done. The thing about all these programs (in my humble opinion) is they are not 100% accurate. Use them with a grain of salt and don't let them replace your brain.

I own all 3, and use Market Samurai mostly. They have finally added their monetization module to it, which is kinda cool. Unfortunately, I'm not real great at using any of them, so I'm going to have to make time to really understand everything in Market Samurai to get full advantage. But like I said, I use it the most cause it seems somewhat easier for me to understand.

I signed up for the TDC, when do I get my link so that I can get MS for $87?

EDIT: Also the interesting thing about Micro Niche Finder is that its barely on the first page of Google for its own name.
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[1099997].message }}

You download the trial and install it. Then when you start it there will be an upgrade button. You have to do it withing the first 7 days of the trial. Once you hit that button, you will go to the buy page and your email wil be filled in, then you will be taken ot paypal where the price should be $87. Failing that, you can just go to the website and hit products > sull version and at the bottom you will see a timer counting down. Hit that and enter your email to get to paypal for the 87$ price.

So there's the two ways. But if it gives you the full price, (and your within the 7 days), buy it and notify the Noble Samurai team, who will then refund you so you get your 87$ price. Hope that helps! Trust me it is worth full price.

From what I understand that just gets you the $97 price. How do I get the $87 pricing via the TDC? Or is it just as you stated?
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[1100555].message }}
  • Profile picture of the author cypherslock
Try it, it will work. As long as you're within the first 7 days of your trial. Alternately just buy it and they will hook you up with a refund to bring the price down. They are good like that.

Market Samurai more than exceeded my expectations.

For the person that asked whether or not MS calculates or shows SOC, does it ever. The SEO Competition module in MS is fantastic. The interface of that module is superior to any other interface I've seen that presents the same details. I use that module daily.

Some great discounts on KE out there and I considered it for about a minute, but I personally believe if you're going to own two keyword tools, they should be Micro Niche Finder and Market Samurai, and if you're only going to own one MS wins hands down.

Quick answer: Download the demo and find out. Long answer, it finds you content that you can repurpose (even let's you do it within the program) and then upload. Seriously, go check it out. Hi all,
I downloaded the free 40 day Market Samurai trial through the 30 day challenge website, and I really like this software. Being fairly new to IM and keywords tools I found the interface abit overwhelming, and the program does take a bit of getting used to, but well worth the time and effort..
I would love to buy it, and there seems to have been some promo codes to purchase it at $97, but it is currently at $149 (£120). Does anyone know if there are any discount codes?

I haven't used Micro Niche Finder or KW Elite 2, but I did use KW Elite 1 for some time.

For me, I'd say that Market Samurai is the best of the three. Especially the fact that it runs on a mac, which I own, is a seller. KWE doesn't run on a mac so I cannot use on my main computer, I would have to go to a different machine and export to a shared drive. I do like some of the features listed in the new KWE, but MS works on my machine.

I'm not crazy about Adobe Air, but I can see it's use now!

All software built going forward from now on should always be built on Adobe AIR, be web based, or have both mac/windows versions. There are waaaayyyyy too many of us marketers who use mac that are left out in the cold on certain software. The time for one platform developing is way since past. Its a new day. All you developers need to get with the program and stop freezing us out.

Hey, I've trying to use MS for keyword research in Spanish, it works but only if you add the keywords manually, and that sucks if you are using the program TO get the keywords.

For example, (using Spanish as the language in the options)
I put "rapidshare", and gave me like 6 keywords. None on the really related to rapidshare.
So I added a keyword manually, and it gave me good the complete information. But, again, not always you have keywords to add.

I spent about 2 hours finding about 100 peeps, after checking their sites, emailed them all... in approx 3 1/2 days, i had 9 JV's... that was via one search term.

Does anyone have a benchmark indicator that can be used in MS to give the same feel as the SOC? I do use the seo competition tools in MS, but sometimes the data gives the wrong impression.

            Jeff,

Your reference link to this MS Forum was a really good find. Just reading Brent's reply on a few posts filled in a much needed missing piece I've been tossing with for a couple of weeks and that's after using MS for quite some time.

You post, along with Brent's comment and this WF thread will be a good touch points for a few of my readers who are still on the fence as to which tool they should start with; MNF or MS. Since I'm a big fan of both, I usually tell them start with MNF, its a little easier to learn and get your feet wet with SEO SEM and then go uptown and get MS if you want to compete with the big dogs.

By using these 2 tools, I've gotten my fair share of SEM traffic for:
            • How to use Micro Niche Finder
            • Market Samurai Backlinks

      Hello Folks;

I have used MNF for 1 1/2 years and found it is great on the initial niche availability. I take the results from MNF and plug into MS for more detail. You have to be a little more astute to use MS. Both programs can run on multiple computers.

I am currently looking at KE2. My initial impressions are the processing times are a little long . It appears it can only run on one computer. That being said Brad has added KE University which goes into detail on how to use in video format KE2. The case study from start to finish is great.

      • Profile picture of the author Boadicea
Neongreen, the "mystery module" has indeed been released in Market Samurai: it's a Rank Tracker tool, enabling you to track your rankings for any keyword you wish (for any number of keywords), & for any domain or url, so you can even track other pages' rankings alongside your own.

It is superb, can track your rankings in Google, Yahoo and Bing (previously MSN), right down to 1000th position, in any one of 234 regions.

It tells you what your current ranking position is every time you update the figures using the tool, and shows you a graph of how you've gone up or down since you started using the rank tracker. It's brilliant.

ArtfulWebsites: you can sign up to the 30 day challenge here: Thirty Day Challenge and yes, you can get a further $10 off by buying before midnight Thursday 10th Sept (US Pacific time), by using the link and discount code in the thread that James links to above.

For anyone reading this who has missed that deadline, remember that you can still currently get Market Samurai for $97 if you buy it within the first 7 days of your free trial; that's only $10 more than the discount you get using the special THANKYOU30DC link and discount code that runs out Thursday midnight.

I have all the three but but I think Micro Niche Finder is the best software.
It is the easiest of the three to use and generates a handful of long tail micro niche keywords in seconds and the research is pretty easy.
In Keyword Elite, if you are not aware of how to use the tool, you are going to go nuts using it.
I would never prefer Market Samurai.

It seems to be more for ppc.

I'll have to ask how to get the most out of it for seo.

I have no problem with MNF, just think of some keyword
ideas and mnf will tell you the search count, competition,
      and strength of competiton.

Then just create content and get backlinks.

Im having a MAJOR problem here with Market Samurai and i hope someone can give me a good answer to the issue.

I just put my keywords that ive researched in Market Samurai that were SUPPOSEDLY getting no less than 200 searches a day and did seo, articles, etc, on these keywords.

Now, ive gone and put these same kewyords up in googles keyword tool:

    Search-based keyword tool

and im seeing the same words that I was getting at least 200 searches a day, turns out to be 200 searches a MONTH in the google tool. This data discrepancy is extremely disconcerting to say the least, has me wasting time and money, and id like to know just who am I now to rely on when it comes to search volume for a particular keyword? Market Samurai or Google?

Im believing the Google tool is the one thats giving me the right data since I rank number 2 out of 5,000,000 for one of my keywords, and im only getting like 1 visitor a day to my site. What the hell man?

        Hi

I have two questions, firstly how accurate are the results in terms of the actual amount of links and the anchor text?

When I do my backlin research I use everything possible, yahoo, google, msn, backlinkwatch, I find I sometimes will find links on msn that weren on the others and vice versa, how accurate is this?

Also I am only really interested in information about the other sites in my niche's links and anchor text, is this the best option for that kind of research of is there something cheaper that will give me exactly what I need?or is there something else?

Well, I was a MS purist for some time and I've started to use MNF with MS and I find it to be a winning combination! Yes they do come up with similar keywords but I find MNF is great for fast overview of a niche, and (HINT,HINT), I love the brainstorm button!

But MS is superior when it comes to hard analysis of the keywords with actual competition facts and figures.

So, I find that I use them both together. I wish MNF had the ability to use proxies like MS to quickly pull up stats on keywords, but I guess you get what you get!

I believe you have to take different Approach - what are you looking to do?

MS is good for Search engine ranking - natural, but the competition is detailed and in depth
MNF is fast and takes a simple approach (grwta if you are looking to do many small niche sites.

Keyword elite - is power is you are running PPC

But the whole picture is they are "Guides" - and can be wholly inacurate- people see to process them as "this is down to the letter- written in blood numbers" - sorry its not that simple.........

Same goes for backlink- still a guide too

    Hi everyone,

I guess it depends on your budget and how much time you wanna spend researching your niche.
Micro Niche Finder is quick and less expensive.
Market Samurai has more features, which means more time to do your research.
I don't own Keyword Elite, But I did try a 14 day trial version of Keyword Elite 2.0.
I just didn't have enough time to try all its features, 14 days went by fast.
But, I like to buy it in a near future.

I use MNF and I love it. It gives you the green light for keywords with low competition and I have been able to be on the front page page of Google within hours of publishing my campaign. I have been able to find great micro niches and been able to dominate it. I tired Keyword elite, it was not my favorite. MNF helps me find affilate products, amazon products and ezine articles related to a certain keyword.

I have not tried Market Samurai but so far I love MNF. Is it MS a monthly subscription?

No, there's no monthly subscription as yet. Market Samurai is currently a one-off purchase of $147 if you take the full trial period; however you can get it for $97 if you purchase within the first 7 days of your trial.

This is superb value. It's likely to move towards a subscription in the future, so the time to buy is now

I've used all 3 keyword tools and if you are on the fence on deciding which tool is best -- well it really depends on what your main objective is. I would say MNF is the easiest, less complicated tool for finding low competition keywords.

Market Samurai really excels in digging down further and looking at the SEO competition (checking on PR strength, Page backlinks, age of domain, etc) -- although this can all be done for free with extension like SEO Quake.

I think the best feature of Keyword Elite is the "Adwords Site Targeter" function.

Traffic Travis is another good option for SEO competition analysis.

Has anyone else had a problem with Market Samurai pulling what seems like questionable data? For example, I was researching a particular keyword phrase and the SEOC was approx. 3600, which was shockingly low. I was ready to put down 3k on a domain to target these keywords as it looked like an extremely promising niche. The next day the SEOC was at 3.5mm making it a very competitive keyword phrase. Possibly I did something wrong though.

I have MS and love it. BUT it is missing two important points, and I do hope the developers are listening (one has been mentioned by another poster).

    1. There is no way to compares SOC's quickly. I mean when you are looking at 100's of keywords, you have to click on them, create tabs, go over to those tabs, run other reports.... yakkks
MNF gives you a pretty decent SOC in-line for all keywords. Granted, you have to do more research, but it is a great start. MS does give you allintitle results in-line, but that is not as good as MNF's SOC (I LOVE allinanchor as an indicator, and MS misses that one TOTALLY).

    2. Competitive Analysis - I think factors like allinanchor are very important. Seeing pure number of incoming links to a page is not enough. You have to have a column for allinanchor (for the specific target phrase).

My grip #1 is forcing me now to buy MNF. Market Sam, are you around??

I'm using the trial version of Keyword Elite. I'm personally having problems. The program freezes quite often, it shuts down on its own, and at times I find that it doesn't up data for highly searched terms.

But saying this I am using the trial version, which could be a beta version that Brad has released to people who purchased Google Sniper. Anyways, when it does work, I am impressed, but that feeling doesn't occur as often as I had hoped. Maybe the full version is different. If anyone is having similar problems with the trial version, let me know, at least I'll know its not a problem on my end.

Here's my take on the three. Market Samurai although good doesn't really find those long tail keywords as well as KE2 and MNF.

For keyword research I'm personally finding MNF a lot easier to use, and it's finding me some real gems. But saying this I would still keep KE2. The reason why is that you can double check competiton strength, and by quickly inputting a certain keyword in to KE2 you can look more closely at the competition, i.e backlinks, PR etc. Personally, i think if you can get both then do so because they compliment each other.

I need to say that any of those are very different, so its very difficult to compare.

KE II (imho) has its priority on adwords, and it has all those additional modules which might be helpful.
MS is very powerful, but its a little weak when it comes to brainstorming and finding long tails.
And with MNF i never got over the fact that it doesnt automatically fetch competition or OCI.

My favorite atm is MS. I agree with a poster above, the SEOC is (IMHO) the most important factor and just looking at search volume and SEOC can be incredible profitable in terms of rankings.

I dont care for CPC anymore, neither do i do a lot with adsense, so i personally dont have a use for any of the other tools which are more adwords focused with CPC values etc.

MS is very good for my uses - but i personally would like some features. For example, i dream about a KW tool where you can enter a custom formula for a KEI, a formula which would also weigh PR.

There are some hyper-interesting articles online about calculating a KEI. Example...it is a difference whether i try to rank a phrase for my own, new site - or on ezine articles. On my own site i might never be able to rank for "insurance" - but using a ezine article it MIGHT be worth a try.

Such factors need to be taken into account - SEO/ranking is NOT always the same.

That being said..i think i might post this on the MS forum.

I'm using MS for now but I have noticed some inaccuracy in AWA - Adwords Advertisers. I do realize there are a number of Ggl search engine data centers that make up some of these discrepancies, however, I have checked over and over and think this column is unreliable. It will say zero advertisers for a keyword- go to Ggl search and I see like 8 advertisers, sometimes another amount.

Unless I'm doing s.t. wrong, I always check this data for sure, which defeats some of the purpose of making quick decisions. It makes me think if this column data is unreliable, what other data is?

I tried out Market Samurai, loved it, bought it. Works natively on Mac which is so important for me. No recurring monthly. SEO competition analysis is just amazing.

My only complaints are that it takes up a lot of memory and the keyword research is not the best. I think Keyword Elite might be better for long tail. Samurai doesn't find those long tails that amazing. Some of the stats are clearly off and it's not great for PPC. But when it comes to SEO, Samurai is the best.

Can't speak to MNF, but it doesn't work natively on mac, neither does KE. Parallels drains my system so it's not efficient. Just my 2 cents...

The best tool is the one that you can work fastest with and solves YOUR particular needs. Consider that if you don't understand the reason and method behind proper niche and keyword research, the "best" tool is useless. There was a huge debate when Bruce Lee unveiled JKD. All this talk over which style was best. When in fact the main point was survival. That was the point, the root. The styles were like different branches on a tree. Pick one, master it and you'd be fine.

Same thing here. When you understand how to pick a niche, find profitable keywords, you can use ANY tool. It comes down to what tool fits best into your work flow. I've used KE2 and seen MNF and have MS. And for me, MS does the trick. It is pointless to argue over tools. We're all trying to get to the same place, and we all use different techniques. The result is the same.

I think most people who've used MS would agree that it has the broadest feature set in KW research of any KW tool. But Im concerned this will eventually become its' weakness. What MS has in breadth, it lacks in depth.

It'ss already a memory hog and in some functions, it is very slow. The MS folks seem to want to add more modules without enhancing existing ones. For example, it was silly to add 'Finding Content' and 'Publish Content" modules. These are only peripherally relates to SEO and KW research, and should be a separate tool.

Making MS so big, with so many different functions, only prevents them from adding more power to existing modules. I'd like to see more power in the ability to find good long tails rather than simply having new applications.

I see your point here - but let me rebut some of this briefly.

Firstly - Market Samurai was never designed as a keyword research tool.

Instead, it was designed as a workflow tool - the tool that you opened every day for internet marketing - because the key tools you needed were all in one streamlined workflow so that you didn't waste time switching between tools.

It was an experiment - something different, that no other tool was doing - and it seems to have worked. But I think there are benefits to splitting the tool up into 8 pieces of software too.

Re: the "Find Content" and "Publish Content" modules - these aren't recent additions - the buttons etc were all a part of Market Samurai from Day 1. We made a commitment that they'd be released, and we released them.

Re: Enhancements - There have been a LOT of enhancements released since we launched. It seems that every week, there's bug-fixes, new features, speed enhancements, improvements to the tools or something else being released.

And, with the Adobe AIR 2.0 release coming up, it looks like the memory limitations will be removed, and Adobe AIR will run a lot faster.

Originally Posted by Johncpu View Post

      No way!

We've constantly been adding more power to existing modules since we launched.

Originally Posted by Johncpu View Post

The issue that we keep coming across is finding long tail keywords that are still valuable.

There are a lot of keyword sources available - but you find that if you import them into Market Samurai and filter out all of the "junk" keywords - in many cases you're left with just the same keyword set as if you just used Market Samurai's existing tools in the first place.

We added more long tail analysis a while back with the addition of a 2nd source of keywords a little while ago - and we're constantly experimenting with other sources that we can integrate into Market Samurai.

If you can help us with this - or if there's other specific features that you want to see - get in touch with us.

Many of the good ideas implemented into Market Samurai come from users - and we pay especially close attention to user feedback.

Anyway - I hope this has helped you in some way.

Thank-you for speaking up. We get a lot of good feedback - but unless we get criticism, we'll never know what we need to fix - so I really appreciated reading your post.

I own both MS and MNF and am using both on a daily basis for kw and niche research. there is a wso with some great niche research videos on using just these tools (sorry - not more helpful w/ the link).

anyway - MNF gets me kicked out of google everytime I use it so I had purchase a proxy service. It doesn't have proxy functions. Otherwise, I absolutely love it.

MS - is a little better at finding the long-tail kw's and doing some broader searches. And, of course, has all of the other bells and whistles already mentioned.

I had the KE2 trial and it was fine but prefer to stick with the above 2.

Brent - thanks for responding. I appreciate the comments, and let me respond with my own:

Regarding enhancements - I don't recall any big performance improvements. Seems that most updates have been bug fixes(not a bad thing !). In fact the recent loss of the AWA column was disappointing, but I understand that was a google issue and not an MS fault.

Regarding long-tail KW - I spend a lot of time manually adding phrase variations like singular to plural forms, changing phrases etc, that MS should be doing for me. Hopefully this function can be strengthened.

I don't want this post to sound negative. MS is a great tool. I just hope that improvements are made in existing features rather than simply adding modules. I've tried to post critiques and challenges on the MS blog, but they never get published (not surprisingly), So I'll add a couple suggestions/requests here.

    1) MS needs a faster engine. The analysis speed is fine, but I can watch the second hand on my watch when I do things like move between KW tabs or pull up an existing KW file. The slowness is painful.

    2) You must add more ability to manipulate the data. Simple things like combining KW tabs, or moving phrases between tabs would be a start. The only way to do that now is to dump it into a spreadsheet. But there are several steps that MS could do before that last dump.

    3) Get rid of OCI. This just slows down the tool, and is a completely inaccurate and bogus measurement. And for MNF users, sorry, but this is true for your tool too. If the MS or MNF folks decide to discuss where this comes from and how it is calculated, I think most will agree with me on that.

Again, MS is an excellent tool. And despite the critique, I'd recommend it to anyone.

The winner, after buying and using 7 KW tools for my businesses, is Micro Niche Finder, hands down.

Not only does it kick out quick results, but it shows you lists of affiliate products that go with each long-tail keyword; lists articles that use the KW terms, suggests keywords, brainstorms keywords, and much more.

What is also a tremendous help for me in my business is that I can sit employees in front of the computer, and teach them how to pull stable and meaningful results out of the tool within five minutes.

Not many KW tools are that easy to learn, easy to teach, easy to use, AND keep my customers always coming back to me for repeat business. Why? They get click-throughs based on the keywords generated by MNF, and people buy their products.

It's like Travis Sego would say, "Find a hungry crowd and give 'em what they want." When I use MNF I get the results fast, and the *counts* and *green light* guarantee that my clients are going to make money off the articles I write for them. Period.

I also like the fact that new enhancements are continually being added, and I don't have to pay a yearly upgrade fee.

Xrumer is for posting forum spam. If you're a serious marketer, you'll stay far away from anything like that. My advice is get the trials of Keyword Elite 2, Market Samurai and buy Micro Niche Finder. Use all three LEARN the process of spotting a good niche and then keep the one you feel fits best with your workflow. And take your business seriously. Shortcuts like xrumer will not serve you in the long run. Tools that let you research and publish good quality content that fills a need, will.

I am looking at Market Samurai but so far I like the simplicity of Micro Niche Finder. It is very useful for finding low competition keyword domains for site building. In particular, I like the SOC (Strength Of Competition) and MOB (Measure Of Backlinks) features. This is really useful for Amazon product sites. For example using MNF I was able to find a few excellent niches in the automotive parts section of Amazon and have made quite a few sales this last month alone.

MS is a stunning tool and as in an earlier comment you should go to MS and make sure you go through all the training videos as the thing does a huge amount of jobs.
The one thing I would like it to do is to give a 'difficulty rating' when comparing top ten websites for a given keyword. There is a lot of info to decipher.

Traffic Travis (yae I know - not one of your requested comparisons!) has 5 star rating system that gives you a kinda 'go - no go' for attacking the niche keyword. So I always go over to Traffic Travis to do this as a final check before deciding on a niche.

I don't own KE so I can't offer any opinion on that product. But as for a MNF and MS comparison, I own and use both.

To me, it's not as easy as saying one is better than the other because it would be like comparing a spanner wrench to a socket wrench. Both are wrenches, both work great for tightening and loosening things, but neither does all jobs. Perhaps not the best analogy so I'll try to elaborate.

MNF works best (in my opinion) in the initial phase of keyword research; the brainstorming, finding new niches, etc. It really helps me in the creative phase of the keyword finding process and quickly zeroing in on a viable market.

Once I've identified the market and some great keywords, I then transfer my MNF findings over to MS for confirmation and further analysis.

If I had to choose only one, right now I couldn't do it because MNF is ideal for my phase 1 research and MS is ideal for my phase 2.

However, if someone is a complete newbie, MS may be the better choice solely because of their exceptional training videos. Both are great products, but I find the MNF training resources are somewhat sparse and scattered and certainly not laid out in an A to Z format like the training in the MS dojo.

I have been marketing online for a while now and I have only really tried a few of the keyword research tools.

My favorite would have to Market Samurai but that comes with a pretty steep cost. If you're looking for a cheaper way out, i'd say Niche Research Commando cause its only like 27$.

But again, overall the Market Samurai is probably one of the best products out there when it comes to keyword research. And if you have the money, it's well worth it.

This is a great thread and it addresses the exact question I came here to ask. Thanks Warriors!

Here is a question for you. I am using both MNF and MS to do my keyword analysis for a new niche I am planning to target, and I am getting different results in each tool. For some phrases, MNF is giving me the green light, but when I analyze those same phrases in MS, there are red boxes all over the place - tons of competing sites with lots and lots of backlinks. Who do I believe in this case?

    Thanks!

I haven't had that happen very often but a few times I have seen the following:

Suppose you're getting an SOC of 40 in MNF for your keyword and then you check MS and find those 40 competing sites are all targeted, relevant sites with good backlinks, move on. But first double check manually by visiting the sites to see if they're just spam sites that will eventually get axed by Google anyway. If they are quality sites, unless you have the exact match .com for that keyword you'll need to put in a ton of effort to overtake them (if you even can).

But it also depends on your long term strategy. If you're building an authority site, go for it, it's another niche relevant page for your site.

Hope that helps. It's not always a black and white situation.

      Canuck Warrior,

Thanks for your valuable input on this. From your statement:

"Suppose you're getting an SOC of 40 in MNF for your keyword and then you check MS and find those 40 competing sites are all targeted, relevant sites with good backlinks, move on. But first double check manually by visiting the sites to see if they're just spam sites that will eventually get axed by Google anyway. "

It sounds to me like the SOC is really just a quantity, not a quality evaluation of the competition. At least MS gives you more info on backlinks, on-page factors, etc. to help evaluate the competition.

This is all good stuff to know. I am learning the strengths and the weaknesses of these tools, and it will help me in my research. I guess there is really no one magical tool that evaluates all the factors and gives you a go/no go decision on a keyword phrase.

I will take you advice and see what I find in Traffic Travis. I need more stuff to confuse me right now. ;^)

Thanks so much for your help!!!

        You're welcome BJ.

Btw, SOC is more than just a count, if you click on the number generated you'll find that number contains 3 factors: inanchor count, intitle count and inurl count which are certainly important for SEO. So it's still a very credible number, don't dismiss it.

MS just gives other helpful measure like Phrase to broad match ratio, etc.

So you're right, no one tool seems to do it all. I find MNF and MS work better together than on their own. I'm going to try out Tony's tip next time a conflict between the two arises, but don't get too bogged down in the analysis. You can get great results using either MNF or MS, so you don't absolutely need both to get started. In fact, you can get started with free tools, it just takes more time.

I think it's better to have imperfect keyword results with more sites/pages built than it is to spend all your time looking for the magic unicorn keyword and have no sites/pages built.

Once you start tracking your traffic, you'll find keywords people used that neither tool identified anyway. :-)

To me, this is one of the downsaides of MNF. The SOC seems to be simply a go/no go indicator. But I have no idea how that recommendation is made. MS gives much more information about the competition, and actually shows me the info so I can evaluate the data myself.

And as someone else pointed out, MNF has no free trial. But MS gives you a great KW tool for free, no time limit. Then if you want info about the competition etc, you can choose to buy.

Yes, most of us base our keyword research results in "quotes". Looking for a <30k search results without quotes is almost impossible these days. There are some but hard diamonds to find.

Looking at the pr or sites at the front page of google is also a good way to spot a good keyword. Among other things, but these are quite enough to base my research on.

I do something similar. I can see a lot of potential in MS but I keep going back to GKT as I just find it a lot quicker to get the results I need as MS hogs the PC's resources like crazy, then I check the comp in TT. TT runs nice and quietly in the background compared to MS that brings my PC to a standstill.

Kind of makes me wonder what PCs some of you have. I mean mine is a 2.6 GHZ Acer, got it for around 600$ MS works great on it. And same with the HP laptop we've got. It even rocks on wifi.

Speaking of which. If you're at the public library you've probably got their open and unprotected network. If you've got a desktop at home (and are on a laptop obviously), there is a way to protect yourself: set up your own Virtual Private Network. Do a search for AnalogX Proxy and LogMeIn Hamachi. If anyone wants I'll do a quickie setup tutorial.

Once these two things are up and running, and you've made the necessary changes in Firefox or whatever, you're set and safe. You can also set MS to work with it as well.

My pc works quite well too with MS. No slow downs or anything that some are complaining about. A tip is to go and upgrade your pc ram. I have 3gb's of ram and that is good enough for MS to run fast. Though i'm still on vista but i think that 4gb will do well for win7.

Doesn't cost much ya know a ram. Go to your local pc retailer and upgrade your pc if you find it slow. Trust me. I upgraded my friends pc ram and it's lightning fast now.

Just started using Market Samurai and let me tell you this. There are soooo many features to this program that I didn't see the first time. You can even use it to help build yourself backlinks, the only problem is once this is widely used, it's going to get even tougher.

Market Samurai can sometimes get slow, especially if you have more tabs open. But its still not a big deal. I finally also had a chance to re-install Micro Niche Finder so i can enjoy the latest version of it. I wrote on several occasion that i think using both tools is a good idea. MNF is very good at finding long tail keywords. I simply use both tools now for my keyword research.

Traffic Travis and MS here. I'm with the 'firearm at knife fight' post. ANY of these tools will be great. Some people like the simplicity of MNF... I don't.

If you get MS, remember to sign up for the 12 day trail and buy via the discounted link they email you.

Try out Traffic Travis (Mark Ling is really quite cool... I hope he says awesome despite picking up 'Guru' status. He is amazingly helpful and humble. Good guy... I don't know anything about IM so I just met him one day not knowing who he was until much later and had totally though 'This guy is quality'. It made buying his stuff pretty easy. : )

STRENGTH OF COMPETITION TOOL - MS vs. MNF

In one review I read, Daniel Molano insisted:
"Market Samurai is a fantastic tool but 1 feature makes Micro Niche Finder absolutely superior,

Keyword research is NOT all about the number of searches a keyword has and the number of competing sites for a specific keyword. The true key here is knowing the STRENGTH OF COMPETITION (SoC).

If your competition is too strong, even if the actual number of competing sites is low, you won't rank, period.
        • Green Light: Go for it now.
        • Yellow Light: Hard but possible.
        • Red Light: Close to impossible.
It even gives you a numerical variable to tell you how strong within the respective "Light" the competition is. Market Samurai cannot do that and it is the single most important thing regarding keyword research. If there is a keyword with 1,000,000,000 competing sites and yet the SoC is "Green" you will easily rank for it.Whereas if there is a site with 100 competing sites and the SoC is "Red" you will not.

Although Market Samurai does indeed have a very good SEO competition module, it's too counter intuitive.

It makes you over think and over analyze useless data, not to mention it's a lot less reliable than MNF's SoC feature. Keyword research is not hard nor complicated, Market Samurai makes it so. Keyword research softwares are supposed to lessen the burden, not make it harder and more complicated.

MNF simply makes it easier, as it should be. The SoC feature automates all of what Market Samurai's SEO module does, into one single feature that will literally save you from wasting several days of your precious time"

I read through a lot of this thread but didn't see this fully addressed, so I wondered if someone who's worked with both programs can address it. Personally, I'd rather buy MS 'cause I'm a Mac, and I can use MNF but have to run it through VirtualPC or Parallels. But before choosing, I wondered if there was any real truth to the above, thanks

The SoC value in MNF is very misleading. You get false positives and negatives. You leave a lot on the table if you follow this value. You are trusting their knowledge on SEO.

I have ranked many pages for keywords that MNF said were pretty much impossible. I have even got a keyword ranked #2 for what MNF gave a SoC of 40,000+

Learn how to read the raw data and you will be a lot better off.

I agree with this. I'd rather see the numbers instead. Its all personal opinion at any rate, so use what feels best. There really is no one "best tool, only the one that is "best" for you. And, in reference to the cost in another thread: with the exception of MNF (which I really don't understand) they all have trial periods. So download and see which one you work best with. And hey if you're not willing to spend a couple hundred on a tool that will cut your research and prep time in half, then maybe this business is not for you.

There is no keyword tool or software that will solve or cure all of your needs and wishes.

There are many that will try to convince you that they have the Holy Grail in keyword research and implementation, but . . .

I just finished a review of Keyword Corral and it does as much as most of the paid keyword tools do for free.

It relies on WordTracker for most of the data but includes many other options and integrations that WordTracker does not.

The point is that there are many options online and before you commit to one, whether paid or not, you need to check out a few of the others.

You can be leaving more money on the table, not caring about the results of true traffic.

I use analytics. This includes Google, Alexa, and two other trackers to find out why, what, and where, people (visitors) are coming to my sites.

With this information you can drill-down and separate buyers from thrill seekers and capture the money.

No, but it sounds like your computer has been hacked.

Market Samurai's site runs fine, and should never normally redirect to anonym.to.

What you've described is a symptom of an old crack that people used to use to try and pirate Market Samurai.

If this is the case, I'm going to put aside my strong personal feelings about it for a moment, and advise you how to fix the problem...
      1. Open up c:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
      2. Delete the 1 or 2 lines that contain "213.203.216.114" or "anonym.to"
      3. Save the file
      This should fix the problem.

If you still have trouble, contact Market Samurai support via Noble Samurai - Powered By Kayako SupportSuite and they will help you.

      Hi,
I have downloaded the trial of MS. I have 3 websites, that sell to the UK marketplace only. I want to check out my UK competition on Google.

I did a Keyword Research project using my main keywords, and selected United Kingdom for the local search.
It gave me the keywords, and I went on to get the local figures for competative websites.
I then clicked on the Key icon of my main keyword. Opened that tab, and selected SEO Competition from left column. It proceeded to give me the top 10 results for the keyword, but they are from USA Google, not UK.
I cant find anywhere that I select United Kingdom again (I presume it is still using UK for the project?).
The USA results are no use to me. Can anyone advise me please?

I did read Brent's early post on this thread saying to check you are not logged into Google account, - I've checked this, I'm not logged in.

I really like the MS interface - but it has to be local search results for me.

      Many thanks

          Hi Val,

When you create a project, you have the option of selecting the country that you are targeting:

Once you've selected this, all Keyword data (and the SEO matrix inside the SEO Competition module) will be targeted to the region that you have selected.

So if you've selected the United Kingdom, you'll see the search results that an average user from the United Kingdom would see.

What does an average user from the United Kingdom see?

The average UK Google user goes to Google.co.uk, and they see a search box that looks like this:

I've highlighted "Search: the web" because the average user won't change this option to tell Google to give them results from the UK only.

This means the average UK user will see sites from all over the world mixed in with results from the UK - but Google.co.uk will generally rank sites from the UK higher than they would appear if the user was searching from Google.com.

To show what I mean, here's an example of what you would see if you did a search in Google.co.uk....

          ...Google.com....

...and then the same search on Google.com.au

As you can see, the results get tailored for the UK market (with UK sites appearing higher) - the US market (with "Pubs" taking on a different meaning) - and the Australian market (with Australian results appearing higher).

This is essentially what Market Samurai is looking at you when you do an SEO competition.

...If we compare these results with the results we see in Market Samurai (with "United Kingdom" selected) we see essentially the same 10 web pages:

(Sorry about the size of the images - the resizing tool inside the post editor here isn't resizing)

I hope this helps you out.

If you have any troubles, make sure you get in touch with support:

I use KWE and MNF. I tried the trial of Marketing Samurai and did not find anything more useful. That is not to say that they will not surprise me or that I did not miss some of the usefulness in the trial.

I do not rely upon Micro Niche Finder, Keyword Elite, or any other product. I continue to use the free programs available, and any new ones that are created.

I am open to improvements on any software and if it is proven better then I will use it. For now I am happy with Keyword Elite and Micro Niche Finder, for the paid products that I use.

If they have a lot of users abandoning them for MS then maybe they will go back to their programmers and escalate the competition.

Competition is the way of the world, the way of progress and improvement.

I do not actively promote either of these software programs, although one of the blog sites that I own does have one post dedicated to Micro Niche Finder, but it is an older post that I wrote and it receives very few views. This is for the FTC and anyone that wishes to investigate my endorsements.

What works for you and what is easiest for you is what counts. There are over 30 keyword software programs available and some are better than others. The Internet changes daily, so the software that you are using today might not be accurate tomorrow.

When you go the the expense of purchasing a product think about the updates available and the interaction with the owners.

The most important factor is how you relate to it on a personal level. I try to list all of the freeware so that people have comparisons and choices. This is important. If you have that extra hour or two a day you can use freeware to do the same things as all of these software programs, and sometimes even better.

The keyword searches that you do with the manual programs are many times more accurate than the search results from new software products. There is a list that is the most complete on Raief, and it is free of charge.

If you must use one of these three software products then you will have to try them and hope that you make the correct decision. It will be almost impossible to do because the Internet changes daily and the software, if it is the best, will have to keep up.

I have not found any software that is or has been capable of keeping up.

So . . . it is a personal choice, dictated by advancements and recommendations, by others.

I always recommend, try the free before you buy, never exclude anything new, and never tie yourself to a product, even after paying for it. It could be an albatross.

      . . . and I seldom comment. I am a writer and a reader.

. . . so that you know I have banned from this forum in the past, including most of my posts, along with some of my friends posts, so, lets see if this one gets published and stays on the thread.

Yesterday they brought out their domain lookup tool: Name Samurai. It's free. You get free redirection to Domain Face.

      On their blog:

"DomainFace have made a free option available for us.

This gives Domain Samurai users the ability to search through their domain database (currently around 650,000 Aged Domains).

Plus, it gives you access to their PageRank data on Aged Domains - all for free"

So go get it now: Name Samurai

I was a little disappointed that, when I went to the MS site to find out the cost of a full version, they didn't list it anywhere. They made you complete the entire checkout process without telling you what the price of the product was. After the 2nd confirmation page I opted out of the process.

I still don't know what the price of this product is. Can anyone tell me the price, and offer reasons as to why they are being so secretive?

I've not used Mico niche finder but have used the others. If I had to pick between MS and KE I would favour Market Samuari hands down. It goes beyond the reaches of what I think a keyword tools would do.

I do a lot of work with Wordpress which it works with very well. MS also heaps of video tutorials to wade through and teach you what to do.

I think it comes down to personal preference so I would make use of the trials and judge for yourself.

    Good luck!

I like Market Samurai in terms of perfomance as a Internet Marketing Tool for the following reasons

    - It is not just a keyword tool, It is also
    a competitive analysis tool,
    a PPC intelligence tool,
    an article writing assistant tool,
a wordpress blog post tool, a website promotion tool, and soon to be a PPC monetizing tool!

And it combined all the above into one neat package.

Other reasons why I like it is because

    - It is Windows/Mac friendly using Adobe Air platform
    - It is very easy to use (in terms of UI)
    - It has a one off very value for money fee (I got mines at USD$97)
    - Data is fully exportable to Microsoft Excel
    - It uses proxies/CAPTCHA to search for data, so that helps you avoid overloading the search engines and tipping them off
    - The team at Noble Samurai provide great customer support, and being based in Perth, Australia, it makes me proud that such a high quality software is created by Aussies
    - It also hold reins tightly on piracy, so much so that it is virtually impossible to get a fake copy of MS, as it is constantly in touch with the servers at Noble Samurai. This ensures a) The company is focused fully on software research and b) I feel comforted by the fact that I am paying for something that is worth the money

Love it every bit! The only drawback would say that if you closed MS and you want to open a list of data u pulled previously, it takes some time to load, abit too long, I wish it could be faster

    Cheers

If you are somewhat advanced in seo MS is better because it givces you more data to make a more informed decision on how much effort it takes to rank for your keyword. If you don't know much about seo than MNF might be better just using their red yellow green indicators.

Thanks Chris, you're the only responder so far who gave me an answer specific to my question, not just another glorious MS endorsement

I've been doing IM for about 18 months and I'm making a little affiliate money. I've studied quite a bit about keyword research, niche selection, page rank and driving traffic, but I don't know if I would yet qualify as "advanced in SEO." But I'm pretty smart, MS offers lots of tutorials , and I think I can probably figure out what all their data means, without needing to narrow it down to just 3 color bars...how hard can it be?

they make it pretty easy, in a nice looking graphical interface you can see the domain ages, page rank, # of backlinks to the ranking page, # of backlinks to the domain, and on page factors for the top 10 ranking sites. I haven't used MNF in a while so I don't know the formula or what criteria they use for their indicators, or if they even specify to their current users what they are. Perhaps MNF users can chime in on their recent success ranking for keywords that gave them a green indicator?

Well not everyone is cash spending free to buy all of the products. Each costs about $100. Some others could find something else to do with the extra money.

That put aside, we're looking for the best value for money and the best product to invest in. My vote is for MS. Super tool which does alot more than just kw research. And domain samurai just got released for FREE! as a gesture of showing faith in their team. They deserve the praise anyways (cheerleader mode OFF )

I like Market Sam really well, except: it takes a lot of effort to get the keywords refined. You have to open each one in a new tab and run an analysis. The competitive tool is great because you can find out if you have a hope of getting on the first page, and what you may need to do to get it.

I would also like a simpler, quicker way to eliminate keywords that don't fit my niche. There is a process, but it is very manual.

I'd also like a better tool that allows you to do your search very locally by cities, or range of zip code. Google shows your search results by where you are. I'd like to specify other local places as a pool of cities for clients that span several cities.

I usually start with the Google Keyword tool. You can dump in some keywords, or some competitor websites, and get a short list of ideas to put in MS. Use a spreadsheet to filter it a bit, then copy /paste into MS.

Does Niche Finder get you a quicker short list of good keywords? Can you export the data to a spreadsheet for further massage? Can you import data?

Why are 9 out of 10 people saying niche finder when its Micro niche finder which is a different product to niche finder. I thought Micro niche finder looked for the long tail words in higher volumes hence its name. ie - if MNF gives the same amount of long tails as MS then ask for your money back in the first 30 days if it does it repeatedly assuming they give you MBGurantee. I was thinking of getting MNF today until I saw Cobwab comments about it being bad after the updates and poor customer support. I have MS but I see it as an all round marketing tool not a specialist of long tail terms. Most sole traders or small-medium companies will never need more than MS probably as there marketing should be more important than keywords.

Incidentally what is the latest argument on these tools since this thread is now now way out of date ? That would in fact be very interesting to hear ? I don't think we should let the date of the thread put us off - lets start a new !!- After all that had gone on who now raines ????- who's keeping up with the times etc ? And particularly who truly has the best long tail ?!!

When Google recently deleted their 'external keyword too'l and replaced it with the 'Keyword Planner', that had a big impact for every keyword tool on the market.

Some keywords tools will go by the wayside. Other will update a carry on.

But Google is making it much harder now to scrape their keyword results and data than every before.

I get SO tired of people saying the tool has collapsed, doesn't work etc, when they have to take things out, make changes because that's what the big G is. The tool DOES work. Remember too that Google does give false info at times as well.

...back to the original question, I think Market Samurai has really cornered the market. There really aren't many (if any) software packages out there that do comprehensively what MS does at the price provided.

The MS team is constantly updating and keeping up with new technologies, new user methods, etc. There will always be quirks here and there...but MS is by far the leader.

    I wouldn't recommend anything else.

Hi, it's because that is a file extension that you can open with Niche Finder only :-)

If you want to save it to something else, choose "file" and then "export" to save it as a csv or html file...

There is no better tool for finding words you can easily rank on Google than Niche Finder. in my opinion Market Samurai is the best...as i used MS and MNF...actually i stand with MS because of it's incredible features..Keyword Research, Rank Tracker and The biggest strength's of Market Samurai are its SEO research features...the only drawback part of this software is that there is a considerable slowness of the software with big amount of data...but still its an excellent software....

Brad Callen's Niche Finder works perfectly still as does Market Samurai. Go to tools right there (and Trend Miner Pro)

When Google recently deleted their 'external keyword too'l and replaced it with the 'Keyword Planner', that had a big impact for every keyword tool on the market.
A lot of the keyword tools out there relied solely on Google without any API or anything, and many of those failed later when they changed.

However, WebFire.com has several keyword tools inside of it that still works great and gets awesome results.

Nobody seems to have mentioned Link-Assistant.com SEO Power Suite. It is definitely worth taking a look. I am going to be testing it out, but haven't actually used it recently.

I used to prefer MNF (Micro Niche Finder) to MS (Market Samurai). MNF used to have excellent support. I spoke directly to the developer to explore some feature requests I wanted, and he was responsive. They were keeping up with Google changes, but that was back in 2010 - 2011. I haven't used it since then, so I cannot comment on how well it is supported at this time.

One of my SEO guys recommends Ultimate Niche Finder and Traffic Travis as a good matchup.

I just bought Keyword Elite 2.0 and can't get it to work - keyword surge brings me back no keywords, only the search count on the keyword I enter. That isn't quite the "surge" of keywords I was expecting.

Yes, I have a standard, NOT a starter adwords account (before it is asked).

Is anyone else having problems with Keyword Elite?
