I'm looking for an autoresponder and there seems to be so many out there that I'm a bit lost on which to choose. So I'm asking anyone who has had experience with a specific autoresponder company, please tell me your experience with them and how you think of their service.

I've been looking at InfusionSoft a lot lately but damn they are expensive, same with emaillabs.com and even Aweber now.

1ShoppingCart looks decent as well too since I should have my own merchant account eventually but I heard their autoresponder weren't that great.

Richard, I personally like aweber. I have used them for years without any problems. I have used some of the other big named ones too and didn't care for them as much.

When your business grows you can still stick with aweber instead of starting at one and having to move it later.

Do a search on autoreponders on the forum and you'll see dozens of topics asking the same thing.

Aweber looks good, but $149 a month just for a 10,000 - 25,000 list is sorta expensive. I liked their old prices

    Hi

I love aweber i tried a few others but none have been anywhere near as good and easy to use. Yes the prices arent the cheapest but the question is do you want quality? you pay for the decent service and just search the different autoresponder names on google and you'll see happy review after review for aweber compared to some of the others.

I use Email Aces which is a fair price but doesn't have all the features that Aweber has.
I wanted to use Aweber but they don't take paypal. I use a VIsa Electron prepaid credit card which they don't take either. Then i thought if my money isn't good enough for them they can just keep their product.

If aweber and getresponse are too expensive, you could opt for RapidResponsebot. I haven't personally used them, but several of the people marketing to me are. Their price is DEFINITELY "right!"

As well as Aweber - which I would recommend with - I also used Autoresponse Plus. You buy it outright - maybe $170 but that's it - no more payments. BUT - it isn't nearly as flexible as Aweber....

I use aweber. I don't know much about the others but I know aweber gets the emails thru.
And that is what matters. Who cares if you save $10 a month if even 10 emails a month don't go thru that could cost you hundreds.

Not saying aweber is the best but I use them and I like them.

Minus bandwidth costs and maintenance time -- assuming your time is valuable.

-- I think the point I'd make to Richard is that there is no "BEST" autoresponder. I would also point out that it's sometimes counter-productive to go asking someone point you towards the "best" and also say... "I'd like this, but it costs too much."

In short, if you find something that is "better" than the competition AND costs less -- you won't need to ask what is the "best" -- because the competition will already have been destroyed, thus making "best" your ONLY option.

watcha smoking dude? First... most hosts provide MORE THAN ENOUGH bandwidth for email... but on top of that I have unlimited, and many others are offering similar deals.

second... maintenance? what maintenance. You set it up and go dude. It's no different to use than getresponse, such as seeing how many ppl signed up in your list, send emails to specific lists or all... u know, use its features.

But yes, there is not "BEST" one... only one that suits your needs the closest.

Nobody has unlimited bandwidth. Some companies offer "unmetered" bandwidth, which they label as "unlimited." But if you use enough of it, you'll quickly find that it is neither unmetered nor unlimited.

And by maintenance I don't mean building the list, I mean installing updates; patches; security fixes; adding features; fixing stuff when there is server trouble. With a third-party service these maintenance issues are a part of what you're paying for.

I'm curious as to why more people don't use Icontact. I've used all 3 and they all have their advantages and disadvantages. Surely I'd say that the "perfect" autoresponder has not been created yet. But back to the original question, why not Icontact? I think it's a bit easier to work with than Aweber and GetResponse.

I use Aweber for years. I used 2 others before but can't remember what they were anymore. Non of it can beat the delivery of Aweber. It is more expensive than the other systems but I am making more money from sales generated with Aweber, due to the better delivery rate. So I say it is well worth it.

I used both Awerber and GetResponse. GetResponse has better interface and good pricing. Delivery is good on both. One thing great with GR is that their service handles non English or 2 byte characters without any problem. Aweber does not.

I think if you're just starting to build your list you've made the right decision.

Most of the negative reviewers of GetResponse probably used either the free version with the ads and understandably didn't like that, or they used it quite a long time ago when it wasn't as good as it is now.

I personally rely on emailing lists for two of my websites, and I haven't have any problems with GetResponse. It's also growing in popularity, even if most old IM pros use aWeber (apparently GetResponse gets about five to ten times more users).

    Hi Richard,

I agree with most of the sentiment here. It's like comparing apples and oranges. I personally use Aweber as I feel it's the best for me, in terms of usage, and support. I had a business partner use Getresponse only to switch back to Aweber because he could not get the HTML function to work for him. Again it's only my opinion, but you must do your research and examine exactly what your needs are for an autoresponder.
    Hope this helps

      Hey Richard,

My personal preference is Aweber for opt ins...but if you need to do some large lead importing or are working with CoReg, go with Autoresponse Plus.

It works great, the only problem with having your own autoresponder on your own host is deliverability. Depending on the volume you're doing, you'll need to swap hosting and change up the domain and IP every so often.

      Good Luck to You!

We use iContact and are very happy with them, and I'm hardly a large corporation. The community they provide is great for SEO and gets indexed fairly quickly and provides some good link juice.

But as folks have said there is no single best service.

WF has a search function that can be very helpful to see what others have said in the past - both good and bad.

As for self hosted solutions - ARP3 (Autoresponse Plus) is a great tool - I use it too for a few small lists.

I would never use a self hosted solution for large lists. Even if you're not performing maintenance - you need to given deliver ability issues. Either some dumb subscriber ( gee why do AOL folks almost always hit the spam button rather than the unsubscribe link?) or someone else in your CIDR block is going to get black listed at some point - and if you're not paying attention and large number of your emails are going to go undelivered.

Just the nature of the game today given the amount of SPAM sent in the world. All these providers have teams of people working to get them off the black lists (note I didn't say keep them off, that's impossible, you send large numbers of email - you're going to get blocked at some point)

    Hi Richard,

I actually use both aWeber and 1SC. I just posted a similar thread with some specific reasons why I like both. But in summary:

I like aweber slightly more for their deliverability and interface- some really cool features.

I like 1SC because it ties everything together- shopping cart, affiliate program, email list, etc. And with 1SC, a purchase counts as a double opt-in, so they never need to go searching for a confirmation link to click.

PM me if you have any other questions... I could go on and on.

AutoResponsePlus on a dedicated server, beats all autoresponders on the market.

You own it. It's on you server. More customization/tracking flexibility then any service available.

Unsubscribe them from one AR when they subscribe to another.

Dozens other features that hands down beat GR, AWeber.

Most common concern? GR, AWeber have best delivery rates.

You can have EXACT same delivery rates if you spend 10 seconds each 30 days checking your IP against blacklists. Do so at this link: SURBL+ Checker v1.1

In 1st field, put your domain name, and choose "All RBL".

IF you're blacklisted, which almost is impossible.

To give you an idea, I have a list of 1.4 million on my host company. A servers IP gets blacklisted every 1 year. And it sends email every day to thousands of people.

YES THAT'S HOW RARE YOU'LL EVER GET BLACKLISTED.

    Meaning...

GR or Aweber provides 0.0000000% delivery-rate benefit over self-hosted script like ARP3.

If you think otherwise, it's because your're a repeating gramophone of what every other person (who knows NOTHING about hosts or the IP world and how easy it's to get delisted or whitelisted) is saying.

Aweber sells licenses and Paul Smithson of XSitePro has one called XMailPro (.com) and the cost is a LOT less then Aweber directly, but it's still the same service as Aweber.

From XMail Pro site: "Stores 10,000 Leads Free, each additional 10,000 is $9.95"

So for a list of 20,000 you only pay $30 a month instead of $149. And you save even more if you pay quarterly and yearly.

The issue of what's "best" is really a a question of "best of catagory"

For example, there is: Honda, BMV, and Rolls Royce.

      They are all cars...

... Go from Point A to Point B.

      Ahhh...

...But every driver has different needs.

Aweber is the Honda: very reliable, get value.

      Autoresponse is more BMW-ish.

And the reason I posted is because nobody has mentioned (to my skimming eyeballs at least) InfusionSoft.

InfusionSoft is the Rolls. "A Players" in the IM world use InfusionSoft.

If you don't know of InfusionSoft or haven't heard of them, you probably aren't ready for them.

However, it just wanted to add them to list of "best autoresponder"

When it comes to auto-responders, one thing comes to my mind - Aweber. If you can fit it in your budget, you will have no grievances using Aweber.

I have had good success with Aweber. I find it easy to use. It's also the most commonly used autoresponder, which easier to find someone to help you with it if you ever need help.

GetResponse is the next most popular autoresponder. Though I haven't tried it, I never heard any complaints about it. Marketing is all about trial and error. If need be, try them both and then make your decision.

I only pay $30 a month, but I also do not have a crazy huge list. If you have more than 10,000 subscribers, your sales should easily cover $149.

Being in sales for years, I found out that you do truly get what you pay for. The cheap route is never the best route. We pay for convenience and service in addition to the product itself. Keep that in mind and good luck.

I just want to add to this because I noticed something and I thought I should mention it..actually I came across this page doing a google search about it.

It's kinda annoying to me as a user, but there's this email news letter that I keep marking as spam...and it keeps ending up in my inbox. FINALLY after over a year of this, I took the time to see what da heck autoresponder this person was using - because even though as a user it was annoying as a markter I was curious. The software she's using is autocontacter.com.

Now take what you will from this...Not sure if it changes my choice at the moment (which is Aweber, since it's easy)...but I just had to google autocontacter.com to see if they have some sort of super stealthly anti-spam fliter thingy.

Any of you have any experience like this? With autocontacter or any other autoresponder?

I've been looking at InfusionSoft a lot lately but damn they are expensive, same with emaillabs.com and even Aweber now.

1ShoppingCart looks decent as well too since I should have my own merchant account eventually but I heard their autoresponder weren't that great.
I have used Response Magic in the past and was very pleased with what they offered...haven't used it within the last year however so this review is a bit dated.
