I have been with Host Gator for 5 years and have never had a problem. I can call anytime and get answers if I have problems. They even helped me with a software problem that was not theirs. I can not speak for Liquidweb.

I have a VPS account with Liquidweb. I have had no noticeable downtime and the support is great. Very fast response time. I highly recommend them.

Do a search for them on webhostingtalk.com You can also find deals there. I have a competitive price with Liquidweb

I have a VPS package with Liquidweb and experienced almost zero downtime. Their support is amazing and they answer support tickets and settle issues within mere minutes. In fact we just upgraded our VPS package with them due to more capacity on our side.

If you're just starting out, hostgator is fine. But if you run more websites and them using up more cpu resources (not harddisk capacity...you're run out of cpu resource faster than harddisk capacity), then go with the VPS with liquidweb.

    Hi,

I like Hostgator. the membership I am involved in uses liquidweb. I have heard from many members in the past that liquid web was the best. If it weren't for my membership, I would not be using it because of its price. Liquid web was the only hosting company that DL Guard was easily configured for. Couldn't get it to work on hostgator or bluehost.

If you have the money, liquid web is fabulous, otherwise hostgator is adequate.

I've got a VPS with Liquidweb and a reseller account with Hostgator. Never had a problem with either one of them. Not really a lot to choose between the two.

One thing with LW is that their response times to any queries is lightning fast. I usually message them but you can also phone. For this reason, LW has a slight edge for me.

I don't think you can go far wrong with either of them.

    I'll add my 2 cents...

Never used hostgator (although some I have heard who have used it had down times or reported "over useage")

Did days upon days of research over hosts last year because I've been through a few.

Liquid Web got my final decision - and they've been *the best* I've ever had (and I've been online with websites since 1997).

No downtime, excellent security, and while they don't make a big announcement about it, they'll also help you with outside scripts to ensure they work.

I know some are saying that the costs with LW are higher, but in my experience? I cut my cost in half with LW, and gained profits because the servers actually WORK. Others block emails, upgrade you without telling you which can then knock out your scripts - and you don't find out till AFTER they've done it when something doesn't work....

Sorry - wouldn't use ANYONE else. Ever.

(Oh - and they really aren't that expensive. You can get some of their dedicated servers for as low as $150 or maybe less I think - I pay more than that, but I have a higher package because of what we wanted/needed at the time we signed on).

Even my former partner, who had his own hosting co for a long time - came on and admitted we had fantastic security and support.

      Without dithering on...what Amber said...seriously.

Tried them all since 2003 and Liquid Web is the best!

If they ever offer additional IP's with diff Class C blocks Ill never use anyone else ever again. Thats how good they are.

I have had a dedicated server with Liquid Web since 2006 and I can honestly say I have not noticed any significant downtime in all that time. Minor hits - never more than a few minutes.

Support is superb. The longest it has taken for me to get a response from their support desk was 15 minutes.

As stated in another post, they will help with other script issues. The security is top notch. Constantly updated.

As far as costs, I have priced out comparable servers and they are right in line with other companies.

I have never used HG myself but have heard positive things.

Got myself a VPS account with liquidweb last week and there support is just incredible.

They answer all my questions in a delay of 15 minutes or less and they help me out to move 7 of my sites.

I was scare to move them by myself and screw up all the database.

I have couple friends that are also using liquidweb for years and they never experience any downtime.

I never use hostgator so pretty hard to compare.

There is something that most are not aware of with Hostgator. They have an inode limit. An inode is considered to be a file, any file. The current cap I believe is at 50,000 inodes for their web hosting plans. As for Liquid Web, better offerings can be found elsewhere. Currently I am using these two:

MDDHosting - Professional Hosting Solutions (Semi-Dedicated Plan)
SharkSpace - Web Hosting, Reseller Hosting and VPS Hosting (Great White)

    Hope that helps.

Hostgator is a great place to start but if you try and run any MySQL driven scripts and such you're going to be in for a rude awakening when your account gets shut down for using too many resources.

That's NOT a negative hostgator review, I have a few accounts there and love their service. Great for static websites, blogs, test sites and membership areas, but don't ever try a big launch on their servers or you will have launch day problems. They're not being mean, they just have to suspend your account if you use too many resources because there are dozens of other folks on the same server.

LiquidWeb is the place you go once you've outgrown shared hosting accounts like Hostgator. When you're ready to go VPS (VDS) or dedicated server - don't bother looking around, just go to LiquidWeb. They're like 'HostGator' for the bigger players.

I'm not affiliated with them in any way and this is based entirely on my own experience but you'd be hard pressed to find a better VPS or Dedicated server hosting option. Plus they own their own data centers - they don't rent some other company's stuff...so when it comes to support, you know that you're talking to the right people.

    Just my $0.02

I don't want to make anyone mad here (and I mean *no* disrespect) but the difference between to the two is this:

Hostgator = Basic needs / lower price
LiquidWeb = Pro needs / higher price

That doesn't mean you aren't a pro if you're using Hostgator. I just means your needs in a host are basic.

Hostgator is fine for a lot of things, but I wouldn't say their support is pro level (timeliness, knowledge, customization). Their speed / availability / uptime is absolutely *not* pro level.

Liquidweb - Nearly all SEO types recommended them, or hold them in high regard. I could give you a list of reasons why that is, but that would turn this into a sales pitch... There an honest company, just take a look at their website for their list of benefits.

A nice alternative I have found to both is Reliable Web Hosting, Reseller Web Hosting, cPanel Web Hosting - Aquarius Storage - I am not sure why, but they say they are not reselling Liquidweb hosting. They say they are simply sharing the same datacenter.... Maybe they are, maybe they're not. Well, whatever, ha! Nearly everything about their backend looks the same to me, plus they use a Litespeed ( LiteSpeed Technologies Inc. ) server configuration. Litespeed is one of the few server technologies that isn't just hype and actually works. Their benefit over LW is price... they are *very* cheap in comparison ... totally inline with Hostgator.

I have a lot of experience with both.

I like them both but, in my experience, Liquidweb's customer support has been head and shoulders above HostGator. Once again, in my experience, when I needed help at HostGator I almost always encountered a curt, smarta** response. As if I was stupid because I didn't know know the answer.

I currently have a VPS hosting package at Liquidweb. I needed quite a bit of help with several issues, one that took an entire weekend to solve and wasn't the fault of Liquidweb. Every person I spoke with sunk their teeth into the problem as if it was their problem...you get the idea.

I have absolutely no hesitation recommending Liquidweb.

    Hope that helps.

Just make sure if you register a domain with host gator (I think it was required when I signed up) and it comes time to renew... it does not autorenew after payment is made... you have to contact the sales department.

I'm very ticked off as I lost a domain I had put a year's worth of content / backlinks / promotion to and it was a PR 4 and making four figures each month. I was able to get it back by paying $250 thank god, but some rankings damage has already been done and the cash flow is significantly less now. Beware if you buy a domain through them when you start with their hosting.

Hostgator is fine for your simple website hosting (their servers are all from theplanet.com).

Liquidweb is a true server provider like theplanet, where as HostGator is a middleman for theplanet.

I use both services. Liquidweb maintains my dedicated servers for me and they are first class when it comes to solving problems, whcih you will get if you have your own servers.

I use hostgator for some sites I don't want on my dedicated servers, to get a variety of IP addresses for some blogs, and have a hostgator reseller account I use for referring some clients.

I have found from past experience it is not only a good idea to have different IP addresses, but also to have them coming from different data centers.

I have multiple hostgator "baby" accounts, for many years, plus a reseller account; and for 2 years a shared hosting LW account with just 2 sites; and for 2 years a LW VPS for a quite large site.

I've had no problems whatsoever with HG and found their support to be OK, even good.

While the support from LW is phenomenal in **some** ways ... in terms of their knowledge and courtesy and response times ... for the 1st 12 months of the shared account I had major problems, all the time. I had more problems with the shared account with 2 sites than all my hostgator accounts and 1&1 accounts in 5 years; more than 40 hours of downtime in that year. They'd fix it, I'd ask for proof they'd stopped the problem re-occurring, they assured me it wouldn't, it did. Again and again, same problem. It's been very good for the past 6 months, though, almost but not quite problem-free, after they moved me to a different server. But that first year drove me to distraction.

Their VPS has been ... OK. Maybe even pretty good. As good as I had previously, probably, but I'm paying more for it. Not problem free but not problems enough to make it worth changing.

I recommend HG without reservation. I hesitate to recommend LW. It seems to be hit or miss. My experience hasn't corresponded with the superb reputation they seem to have.
