The concept is great but simply doing a search on yipdeals and or yipdeals reviews turns up mostly restaurants and primarily from one of member in VA.

Businesses in your area will only benefit once YOU build a list of customers as they mention. If you don't see other members marketing in your area there will be a small if any list to market to.

Search and you can find some of their training listed in Goog. Take a look..investigate a bit further and come to your own conclusion.

I feel it's a great way to open the doors to local as it surely seems win..win however food businesses are primarily, it seems, the only ones that are a success. Folks love to eat no doubt but other service type businesses, even from the successful VA member, don't seem to pull the sales.

Are there any other local deals then, other than YipDeals, that allow you to be a local consultant?

I've been a YipDeals consultant for about 2 months now. It's a good concept that combines Web-based Daily Deals with Charity/Schools Fundraising. The people behind it and customer support are responsive. It needs time to build however. See, it's sort of like a catch-22, for Business Owners to get 'bites' on their posted coupons, you need 'eyeballs' in your local community. But, in order to get 'eyeballs' in the local community, you need Charities, Schools, Not-For-Profits to their member bases first. The Not-For-Profits you need to go after will be those that are preferably well established and has an active member base. I found, through experience, that there charities that are start-ups or 'One-Man-Shows' who will readily join, but that doesn't really help out anybody in the long run. These are just my experiences after a few months with it. I am only doing this very part time right now as it was not the 'offline foot-in-the-door' that i was at first envisioning.

I just joined Yipdeals about 10 days ago. Studied their training, setup business cards, website, brochures and everything else. First day I'm supposed to meet 3 business clients to get them in for merchants, yipdeals has me locked out of my account and now the merchants are in the wind. No response from their help desk. So if you think they support their local marketing consultants, you might be surprised to know their helpdesk may not be there for you.

Speaking of Help Desk and Support, I picked this up on March 6th and after discovering that this business model wasn't for me, I requested a refund on March 27th and received no response. I sent another request again on March 30th, still no response. I filed a claim with PayPal but they can't help me because the purchase wasn't a merchandise. Does anyone know of a recourse that I can pursue to get my $297 refund? I would have left it alone if it was for less than $50, but we're talking about a significant amount of money.

The trick of the matter is getting traffic. With Groupon & Living Social having huge email list you fall prey to large non for profit organizations who you have to go thru layered channels to get to a decision maker. Secondly you only make 12% of each sale if you happen to get enough local traffic to make a nice profit per campaign. Third local business owners are sketical because they might have gotten burnt from Groupon just saying.
