Wordpress or Blogger?

Both of them are good but I'd go with wordpress. I've been using wordpress for a long time and I love it.
It's nice and easy to use once you get the hang of it. BUT, don't get me wrong, blogger is good too, I'm just sharing my opinion

WP absolutely. I've tried both and WP is better because it has more features, you can add plugins (to a self-hosted one) and you don't own your content fully if you are at blogger.

Get a host, get WP and install it there..In that way it will be easier to earn money from a blog if you intend to.

I'll have to go with Wordpress too. It's just so much more customizable. And once you get the hang of it it's easy and fun.

self hosted wordpress

Wordpress undoubtedly, but only if you buy a domain and host and install Wordpress. It's easy if your cpanel has Fantastico. Just a couple of clicks and it's installed. I don't recommend using free blogging hosts ... they can shut you down in an instant and there goes all your content and any ranking you might have achieved.

I have blogs on blogger and wordpress. The hosted blog in blogger is fine but as far feedback from WP users are concerned, it looks like self-hosted WP is a lot better. I am still on free account with WP but looking at hosting it sometime soon.

Blogger - good for making short post without the use of a lot of images or videos. The themes are a little difficult to work with.

The problem with blogger and youtube videos seems to be some kind of alignment problem in the theme I am using. I dont know if this is all themes, most of them or just some of them.

Wordpress.com - lots of themes, easy to add images and videos.


And - google seems to like blogger better then wordpress.com. I see more blogger post in google search results, as compared to wordpress blogs.

Wordpress because you get indexed by the search engines faster. Also another disadvantage to Blogger is that there is a tab that says Next Blog at the top and you never know what blog will be next that will take your visitor away..

I vote for wordpress .. but both are good ..

You should try them both and see which one has better results for you.

If you have experience with Blogger, go with that. Then experiment with Wordpress. There is nothing saying you can't have 2 blogs or more. They are just different layouts that's all, but both as easy to use. Wordpress also self pings. Take a look at my blog for an example. Click on Who Is Tim Reed link below.

Self hosted wordpress is better...

I used to be on blogger then migrated to self-hosted WP. There are more plug-ins in WP plus it self-pings as what timreed just said earlier. Additionally, I think you get a better ranking on Google with WP.

For those who switched from Blogger to Wordpress, does that mean you started whole new content systems in WP and abandoned the old, moved your content over to WordPress, or did you keep both and gradually phase out the Blogger sites?

Since Google owns Blogger, I guess that's why it ranks Blogger results higher in the searches...?

Wordpress, however takes a while to get used to.

I use both... but its good to have HTML skills because I take wordpress themese and modify them using html. For example... lets say that I find a cool theme that I really like, but there are no ad spots on the right side... so I create my own ad space using HTML, and if I want to rent 125x125 ad blocks to advertisers.. I now have that option.

HTML also works if you want to add an opt-in on your theme.

I added a few of my own "modules" to the sidebar such as the optin, and the ads... I can add as many ads as I want I also create my own custom RSS links with the image

There is a bit of a learning curve with Wordpress, but once you're up to speed it is so much more customizable. It allows your site to really stand out from the crowd.

If you want to build a real business, wordpress is the way to go because you have the option to install wordpress on your on hosting with your own domain. So, basically you are the owner and do whatever you want with your wordpress blog like sell it in the future for $ if you desire. With blogger you do not own your blog and just renting space on blogger. If they don't like what your doing they can delete your whole blog that you have work so hard on for years.

self hosted wordpress outweighs everything else I've come across - its just so flexible.

I use Blogger for quick, few article sites with short term goals. Wordpress is for everything else.

What's wrong with blogger?

Blogger is okay for what it does but the main downfall is you don't own your blog. If you post something on it that the administrators don't like then they can shut your blog off, just because they can.
Wordpress.org on the other hand is owned and managed by you. Wordpress.com is like blogger.

So, it looks like self-hosted WordPress is the best way to go if you're looking for long-term success, because you own your own blog, and you can monetize it any way you like.

I agree with the other posts. - go with self hosted Wordpress.

Get an shared hosting account with HostGator (baby gator), and install Wordpress. If you are nervous about this, there are many warriors on this forum who would be glad to do it for you for a reasonable fee.

Control. Options. Flexibility. Choice. Power.

When you use a blog provided by Blogger or Wordpress, THEY ultimately own the blog and the conditions. How would you feel if one day you woke up and Blogger or Wordpress had deleted your blog? It happens.

To be honest, there will be more of a learning curve to installing and managing a self hosted Wordpress versus the blog provided by Wordpress.

But you will learn something. And you get to keep control of your business.

Use both for a period of time to see which you actually prefer. There are more people that prefer self hosted wordpress. However, there is nothing wrong with using any of the three: blogger, wordpress.com, or self hosted. See what you drift to after using them.

Hosted wordpress (wordpress.com) has big advantage in that their tags are indexed lightingly fast on google. Say if you write a post and tag it with "your keywords" - these tags will get on google and on top of wordpress.com tag list very quickly. This is good way to generate "quick" traffic but it has little residual value as they will be pushed down as quickly too.

Hosted Blogger.com has advantage in that you can embed javascript into content and do pretty fancy stuff with it, making your blogger.com - based blog very attractive for visitors. None other hosted blogging services allows that.

Self-hosted wordpress.org beats all others in terms of SEO friendliness, flexibility, ample support and plentiful of free plugins and enhancements.

I recommend your own wordpress blog on your server.

Wordpress is so easy to manage, especially for newbies, plus if you do things right (like choosing a good theme and adding the seo plugin and others), search engines will love your wordpress blog.

Just go with wordpress.

Wow, talk about resources and templates!

I spent some time (maybe too much) looking at the many WordPress resources out there, and it's mind-boggling.

I've always been the type to enjoy learning new things, and it sounds like it's worth the effort.

OK, I see a lot of folks posting about self-hosting WP, but I don't see anyone posting about hosting Bloggers on your own domain, on your own hosting, which is an option. When you create a Blogger blog, one of the first options you are asked about, is do you want to ftp your blog to your own host? It's built in on Blogger, to do this.

It is also possible to use your own domain name on Blogger hosted blogs, but I am interested in the implications of hosting your blogspot on your own hosting.

Does Google still control your blog? I would think not, but does anyone have any actuall knowledge of this?

Wordpress is way better compare to blogger. I am definitely a fan of wordpress. But if you dont have domain you should go for blogger

Self hosted WordPress without a doubt. <------

Wordpress is no1 in my view-I love all the great plugins you can get for free and the ease to write posts-not forgetting thousands of themes to change the whole look and so easy to load them-My only advice is to get your own domain name and host it your self-real easy with cpanel to up load Wordpress using Fantastico. T

Of course Wordpress is the powerhouse!
Lots of plugins and themes will get your blog into the higher levels.

Apparently no-one has any experience hosting Blogger blogs on their own domains, as so far no-one has replied to my question about this.

Does anyone have any actual information to pass along, other than trying to build up their post counts by simply posting "WP is great!" in various ways?

Go wordpress all the time... so much better. Get yourself 'all in one seo' plugin for it and learn how to use it, not very hard but a brilliant way of optimizing your site.

There are so many wonderful plugins that you can get taht will work a treat for you.

Even I'd go with wordpress as I'm using it for a long time and I'm 100% satisfied with it . Never used blogger .

I would say it depends on your objective. If you want a very professional look and feel with great customization and flexibility, self hosted wordpress is the way to go, especially if you're looking to brand yourself. You will have few if any restrictions on how you want to develop your blog.

If you feel the power that WP provides is overkill for your needs, than blogger is definitely an excellent alternative. You can still create nice looking blogs and blogger is extremely user friendly.

As far as for ranking reasons, you will always find a debate over which one ranks better than the other, but guess what... The simple fact is that they BOTH DO rank and do so easily and quickly.

For those who would argue that blogger doesn't rank well or it is sub-par to wordpress, go do a google search on the following: how to make money online. The #1 ranking site is a blogger blog from Griz. You'll also see another blogger blog ranking on page 1 of google. Two blogger blogs on page one of google for an incredibly insane competitive term!

I use both platforms for varying projects. You can't go wrong with either.

Both are good , however I prefer custom wordpress for more flexibility and branding.
Blogger is a not too far though.

Well, I'm going to host some of my Blogger blogs on my own hosting and see how that works.

Sure wordpress is better than blogger because you can find a lot useful plugin to make the work more easy. Hope this help.

What I like about Blogger is I don't have to search for and upload plugins or worry about whether they will work with each other, as I would with WP.

A whole lot of "plugins" are already built-in to Blogger, and they are all very quick and easy to set up right from the dashboard.

I've wasted many hours just browsing WP themes and plug-ins, and how they were all supposed to fit together. There's a lot of "pretty" stuff there, available for WP. But that's not always what I want. And trying to figure out which of hundreds of WP plugins I should use, well I don't have the time....

I want functionality for speed and ease of use, to sell stuff. "Pretty", and having a lot of extra unnecessary links can actually distract visitors from your sales message. "Pretty" all by itself doesn't sell - unless you're flipping, then you will find collectors who like to buy pretty sites.....

If you actually read the posts in this thread, and my question, I was asking if anyone had experience with hosting Blogger blogs on their own domain.
Did you even know this was possible? Or are you just repeating what "everybody knows"?

It seems to me if it is hosted on my own hosting, it would be safe from being banned, no? Because if it is on my hosting, then I do own it, don't I?

I have used Blogger and Wordpress. Blogger is a bit more user friendly for the beginner, but I think Wordpress is better and google seems to like Wordpress.

Blogger cannot do a fraction of what Wordpress can do. The huge number of templates and plugins make it able to deal with pretty much anything you'll ever need on a website, let alone a blog.

And if Google don't like your Blogger blog, they can delete it without warning. That cannot happen on a Wordpress blog. that's a pretty compelling reason!

Another disadvantage of using Blogger is if you want to comment on other people's blogs you have to use the name you're logged in with.

With WP blogs you can call yourself anything, even your best keyword, so it becomes a contextual link.

WP is so flexible, many use it to build normal sites with free or very reasonably priced templates instead of paying for complicated software or a professional web designer.

Elliot, I'm guessing the reason no-one has replied saying they host their own Blogger blog is because although it is possible, if someone is going to go to the trouble of hosting their own blog, they might as well use a much more user-friendly and feature-rich platform. The only advantage of an ordinary Blogger blog is that it is free, so if you host one yourself, there are no advantages left!

wordpress.. I have not see a blogger site ranking super high on google. I am sure a few are, but the number of wp sites that are will amaze you.

I actually don't find WP to be "more user friendly". I stated some of my reasons in a previous post.

I have plenty of hosting already, so it won't cost me anything more to host Bloggers on my own hosting.

And WP can also delete your blog if you are hosting it with them.

Anyway I don't care to speculate WHY no-one has answered my question, I just put it out there, in case somehow came along who could answer it.

wordpress is on top of the world, the functions are superb and it's very google friendly.

What advantages would blogger have over wordpress? Iv'e only ever used WP and never considered anything other, its just so easy to use and does everything i want/need it to, if it doesn't there is a plugin that does.

I'm new to this whole Internet Marketing/SEO/blog thing nice to have advise from professionals.

I prefer WordPress because of the amount of support and awesome plugins available. Also, several free domains use WordPress (good for link building), and you can also install it on your own domain. Basically it's a learn once apply many places tool, whereas Blogger is only used on... Blogger.

When I was designing a site a few years ago, I created a blogger blog that I hosted on another domain. In fact, it was only one part of that entire web site. It was great because it was a journal of someone who was hiking the Continental Divide. I set it up so he could email his journal entries and they would automatically post to the blog. Then he would send his pictures and we would put those up manually.

And, yes, as stated earlier the actual updates were on blogger but just displaying on the hosted domain.

I've found Blogger useful when I want to get something up quickly, but overall you can't beat self hosted Wordpress.

Exactly. To put up something quickly, Blogger is great. If you don't need a "pretty" site, just a functional one, it works fine. And it has a lot of functionality built in - you can put in photos, graphics, videos, subscription forms, banners, a slide show,etc etc without searching for or installing "plug-ins" - they are all built in.

I like both Blogger and WP. As I see creating the page is easy and fast in WP. Adding photo and inserting backlinks are quick. There are various themes that you choose. Especially, wordpress.com has a big advantage in indexing tags, keywords on google fast. This is a good site to generate quick volumes of traffic. Besides I see Blogger or blog.com are attractive for the volume of traffic

I've only just started both, and I find Wordpress is working better, but early days for me.

Wordpress with a host , either blogger and wordpress can remove your free blog for no reason and there goes everything you did .
