Does anyone have any recommendations for managing your files on Amazon S3 - free and paid? What do you like and what do you not like?

What about training - video etc.

thanks

I'd like to hear more about S3 too. What exactly do you use it for, and what don't you use it for? And why?

    Thanks folks.

I’d explain it to you, but your brain would explode.

Amazon S3 is used to store and deliver files. That's what I use it for anyway.

For example, I want to deliver a PDF to people after they buy something. I'd set up a thank you page with a link. That link will be to a file stored on AWS. That file is the PDF.

AWS is set up with Buckets. So you create a bucket, say your product name, then you store all the files for that product in the bucket.

I also use it in combination with Easy Video Player to stream videos, webinar replays, etc.

It's pretty easy to use once you get in there.

We have Easy Video Player. What do you use for the other files like PDF?

I mainly use to upload files I.e play videos on my site for students. I currently upload my files through Firefox, I know chrome have now implementing the same method, but In my opinion FF is one of the best ways. The charges are very minimal,to give you an idea of how much. I have a small training site with about 30 videos I have also updated over time, and I pay from $8 - 12 a month.

The only problem one would have is setting up the process is quite confusing and upload files sometimes can be quite temperamental I.e file uploading error. Best advice try to shrink the file size on free sites on the net.

Other than that, highly recommend using it.

So what's the advantage over something like Dropbox. They're the big player, aren't they?

DropBox is not designed for heavy sharing. It is more for synchronizing files among devices and a little bit of sharing. You share to much and they will shut down the link. S3 is a true storage and sharing in the cloud service. Its one of many Amazon offers and to show you how ubiquitous it is, even Netflix uses them to manage server needs.

What I am curious about is has anyone used Microsoft Azure and does it compare or have the same functionality as AWS?

Microsoft Azure is more for web developers. It not really for just storing and delivering files. Anyone have any experience with Cloud Berry? I've heard the free version is awful.

I didn't know you could use firefox or Chrome to upload files. I thing most people prefer simple. Cool info. I may look at that.

I have the free version of Cloudberry, have no idea 'how to' ANYTHING techie and it works smoothly for me. There are some great videos on YouTube how to use it with Amazon S3. I set it up without trouble and use it weekly. I store files and video for my students.

I had lots of video time last month with people watching (my students) and my son and his father watching game tape that I uploaded for them (son's basketball). I paid a whopping $3.00 for the month. It is the best thing I've learned how to use in the past 2 years

I keep my website backups on Amazon S3. There's some Linux software to do and synchronize backups to S3. Works great both ways: uploading and downloading.
