Shared Hosting With Great Customer Service

Currently looking to step away from my hostgator shared account. I am willing to pay more for quality customer service, since my experiences with HG have slowly dwindled (chat and ticket responses for me have gone to hell). I am currently looking a asmallorange.com, but I am wondering what other options I have?

Any suggestions would be appreciated

I've currently use pretty much every hosting provider out there for my business, and my vote would go to Inmotion and Dreamhost in that order.

Check out Hawkhost and Stablehost, I started using both of them for some of my sites last year and they have been great.

I am surprised to hear that about Host Gator, I thought they had a good reputation on this forum.

You could always do a live chat with them?

HG support is alright, just slow as can be as far as the last 4 -5 months that i have used them. Pity since their up time is so good. Their live chat is now also dreadfully slow.

I only need to move my shared account that has a lot of my smaller sites (about 10 - 15 gb monthly bandwidth).

Something within the range of $10 - 20 monthly would be preferable. I just want to be able to talk coherently to support if i have questions. And if it's chat, and I have simple questions I would prefer the chat didn't last 20+ due to slow response on their end.

Wired tree looks good but they just offer dedicated and vps. asmallorange.com looks to be their shared hosting equivalent. Looking at the different options now (hawk, stable, inmotion and dreamhost).

Yeah...I have the fully managed VPS, which is basically like a "Reseller Hosting" account. In my mind at least...

It's a little different, I had to learn to do like 2 extra things, but I also get a ridiculous amount of bandwidth and the 24 hour support and service from WiredTree.

Only you know what is best for your business, I just know WiredTree has made things easier for me.

I have looked at wiredtree in the past, but I already have a vps from a decent company. What threw me off about your post was that this thread is about shared hosting, so I immediately did a re-scan of their site to see if they just started offering shared without me knowing

At most I might use them for their dedicated servers since that could really do some justice to a few of my larger sites which have high three figure visitor counts.

I use Media Temple...I couldn't tell you about their customer service. Why? Because I haven't ever had to talk to them in the six years that I've been their customer.

I actually had hosting from a really small company back in 2009 when i was first getting started. I kept saying that I didn't know much about hosting yet they kept asking me details about my sites (I only had one at the time lol). They then charged me for an upsell upgrade they said was only optional, but I hadn't actually agreed to paying, which made the purchase of a years hosting like $200+ which felt like a lot to me back then, never mind the fact that it was entirely unwanted lol.

The company is no longer around (thank goodness!) but I certainly understand how hosting can go bad. I mean, this is our online life blood basically. Our websites being up and stable is the foundation for a lot of online business models. Having to worry about hosting in any sense is just an added burden when there are soooo many other things to put energy into.

That is why i want quality customer support in my hosting. I also had another WSO hosting offer that went to crap within the year that i was with them. Won't mention who they were but a simple advanced search will tell you. That is why i am leery about finding my next host. It just matters for long term success, at least for my business model it does anyway.

Stablehost and MDDHosting have excellent support.
    Both are very newbie friendly.

Stay away from EIG brands -- iPage, Bluehost, Hostgator, Justhost, more -- they're the same company.

    For unlimited, InMotion is okay.
Site5 and Arvixe are much better.

A Small Orange was acquired by EIG at the same time they purchased HostGator I believe.

It wasn't part of that deal. The mgmt of ASO posted as much on WHT. But it does appear to have changed hands at some point in recent months. I would guess since Brent didn't own it, but only had a stake in it. A shame to see another good one eaten by the EIG monster.

Oh well -- there are more hosts. It wasn't the best one anyway.

All these HG lovers will probably change their mind when EIG leaves Softlayer. That is a mess waiting to happen.

It was acquired in November, 6+ months later.
I was offline for 6+ weeks (family medical issues) in Nov-Jan. So I missed it.
I don't feel bad, however -- some WHT mods were unaware until today themselves.
ASO also owned HostNine, Cirtex, and HostV. Now EIG has them.

      Sad day for hosting sites.

Oh well -- we have other choices. (Some were better anyway!)

Quality shared hosting can be got from a2hosting.com and moolay.com companies.
Both are decent and prices are competitive.
        Servers work with no glitches!

What type of stuff are you asking support for help with? If it's general website operation, they are probably responding slower and slower on purpose. Remember, there's someone on the other end being paid by the hour to help customers paying only $5 a month or whatever. A needy customer can easily end up costing them money.

Why would that be from a first class hosting organization? It's to be expected from some subscribers and they know it.

I don't host with HG, but in all likelyhood with their recent acquisition by EIG they're going through some reorganization. After they reportedly paid 225/m for the company, I'm sure they're anxious to begin to recoup some of their investment. I'd give them a little time but keep a plan B at hand.

Well i get that. But they used to be exceptional, which is my problem now because they have definitely lost that aspect.

I'm talking about simple questions about billing turning into 30 minute conversations because the need to verify, then they need to re-ask the question, then they tell me the obvious then they have me re-verify to fix. That entire process previously look no more than 5 - 7 minutes, as I had the same questions previously.

I definitely expect more out of my hosting, so that's why I am willing to pay more. Obviously I'm only looking for shared hosting so $10 - 20/monthly should be well enough.

Long ago I also actually used bluehost, but i switched away from them due to unresolved downtime and bad customer support (might just be me, but it left an impression for sure)

So far I have been looking at liquidweb, liquilayer, stablehost and a few others.

Billing questions shouldn't take that long. The only thing I can think is maybe using live chat, which I believe most companies would want a formal ticket logged for these.

LiquidWeb & StableHost are both great companies. I know LiquidWeb is more known for their VPS/Dedicated lineup & StableHost is more so their shared/reseller hosting, should give you an idea. I won't comment on my own company, of course that would be self promotion! If you have any questions, be sure to let me know!

Well, this doesn't often happen but it took me 5+ years to find a decent host and you wont believe what they're named.

goodhosting.org is pretty good for the price and no one thinks to search for them.

Kind of interesting, don't you think?
