What training would you recommend to newbies?

If you were going to recommend a course to someone completely new to IM, what would you recommend, and what kind of course is it (CPA, Clickbank affiliate, Amazon affiliate, AdSense, etc.)?

To me, a course for newbies would need to:

- be relatively low in cost (since most newbies don't start out with a lot to invest),

- have few additional costs (maybe web hosting and domain name, not too much else)

- explain the basics of the kind of marketing it's teaching (if it's affiliate marketing, it would explain what that was, how a sales funnel works if one is used in the course, that kind of thing; it wouldn't assume the newbie knew this stuff),

- either explain the technical stuff or provide resources for figuring it out (such as links to good "how to set up WordPress" sites, for example),

- would not assume everything would be outsourced, but might suggest ways to streamline outsourcing if it's used,

- teaches ethical methods,

- and most importantly, would actually work if the newbie followed directions. It wouldn't have to be a get rich quick thing, but getting a decent supplement to your income within a few months time ought to be attainable.

Bonus points if the process is repeatable and/or scaleable, if it's been around long enough to see if it really produces long-term results, and if there's good support from the course creator.

I'm asking mainly because I have a blog whose main audience is people who are new or new-ish to Internet marketing. I follow Tiffany Dow's method of reviewing and implementing courses that I recommend, and so far I haven't found one that I think is really a good, solid newbie course.

I'd like to find a course or two that I could honestly recommend without any qualms. An affiliate program would be nice since I am running a business, but I'd take a free course or one without an affiliate program if it was something I could recommend without any qualifications.

    Hi

I am not an expert or guru. I started learning IM a few years ago but got stuck with info-overload until a few months ago. Now I can easily and quickly set up my blogs, get traffic and sell anything I want. I do not claim to have made a lot of money but I am happy with my progress and am excited at the many things I can do with my new skills.

Since you have a blog for newbies, I am interested to share my experiences with other people and help them avoid the pitfalls I have gone through. I also hope we can learn from each other.

You can contact me by emailing me using the contact info in my blog.

    • Hi Kaellyn,

In my opinion that is an easy question to answer because most newbies not only have little money to invest but also know nothing or almost nothing about how to make money online? Also they can very easily be tricked in spending a lot of the little money they do have and wasting many months or years on scams.

Typical are those very long video sales websites which are often full of hype, B.S and lies about overnight or fast wealth as soon as they get paid by newbies who don't know better? Or those so called website creation software that makes, so they say, fully optimized website at the click of a mouse or software or those claiming you don't need a website,a blog, SEO, PPC, PPV and so the list goes on. What is not needed is to waste money on such garbidge!

IM report Card, an independent website has rated the Chris Farrell Membership as the #1 Internet Marketing Service for 2011, 2012 and 2013 and as a member myself since 2009 and considering how clearly his step by step training videos explain all the basics I can only totally agree that is the best place for any newbie to begin before moving on to move advanced tasks such as traffic generation and video sales squeeze pages and so on?

I realize that some more experienced members of this forum have some less favorable opinions about him but unlike them, I have met Chris many times and he is one of the nicest most approachable guys out there and we are now also close friends. However, even if I hadn't ever met him he would still get my recommendation here.

      Regards to all here.

I would suggest on how to set up Amazon review sites. Not hard to learn you can make money fairly easy and quickly.
A good way for newbies to learn the basics. Worked for me.

I have to totally agree here that possessing skills is a must for anyone trying to build a business online. All of that 3 clicks of the mouse stuff is just garbage and hipe. It is not only stupid, but it is also a bad way to be spending what little money you may have as a newbie.

However, as always, unsuspecting newbies fall into the trap of get rich quick by these scam artists who care nothing about them or their success.

Personally, I wouldn't suggest any newbie purchase a course. Rather, it would be better for them to learn (for free) from message boards, such as this one. There is plenty of free information available on the net without having the shell out a bunch of money on the latest "get rich quick" scheme.

This is the best answer... newbies need to learn. Whats the best way to learn than to learn from others who have been there and done it. You get pretty much honest answers on here who have vast knowledge on IM. Good luck!!

One of the best ways for newbies to start out is to learn how to create and sell their own information products. Sure affiliate marketing is a great place to start since it is pretty easy to get started with.

However, as with anything, there is a bit of a learning curve because no matter what type of marketing you do, you need skills to do that type of marketing.

The next best advice that I can give here is to find somebody who is doing what they're teaching and not just teaching it. I find it hard to find people who are actually doing this. So if you can find somebody who is actually using the methods, strategies and tools that they recommend then that just might be the individual that you need to learn from because they will have experience and the skills you need to learn yourself to do your own marketing.

Making money online isn't going to happen straight away especially if you don't ahve skills. No matter what type of marketing you do, you will need to obtain skills and the proper training from individuals who are doing those things themselves.

There are so many newbie training programs out there. It's really hard for a newbie to find the right one that isn't just going to scam their money out of them. I'd try to suck as much information out of this forum as possible. We have a great bunch of people here that will be more than willing to share whats working for them

There's a lot of free information out there that is good, but there is also a lot of bad information too, it takes time to sort through and try out all the things your told.

I found that although my time was wasted with some methods, I was able to understand more about how the whole thing works, more than if I had stumbled on the best method straight away.

I think it's a learning curve that needs to be experienced, and having someone with you or maybe a few people that are experienced can make a difference in how you take on information.
Not everyone markets things the same way, I've met people who market MLM, HYIP(I don't advise HYIP), and borrow some PR tips from a Young lady who Teaches stocks and shares on Facebook. It's all about meeting the right people.

The best things for newbies to learn are evergreen marketing principles. Learning how to get a list of subscribers would be an excellent place to start. Creating a product in a field of knowledge which definitely help a newbie move there career to to advanced stage relatively quickly.

In the process a newbie would also be collecting a list of buyers which is priceless.

    hi,
that is a very valid question. i agree, as a newbie you do not want to invest a lot to get started - especially not if you don't know if you really want to do it.
so courses for $497 and more were no option for me when i started in internet marketing.
i have created a course for newbies and with newbies i mean so new that you do not need to know much more than writing an email - as a teacher i know how to break down stuff into small chunks.
but i think what really counts is that there is a helping hand and i mean a personal helping hand AFTER you have signed up.
i´ve spent days waiting for an answer from an internet marketer whose course i signed up for and really, it got me demotivated by times.
so i decided when i have ever gained enough knowledge to guide others i would actually do that while i´m there. and that´s how we handle it in the academy. we answer questions daily and we keep our members accountable - with great success although that means a lot of more efforts from our side.
and what is also important to me is that you find someone teaching that there is no shortcut and no rich quick think - making money online is hard work but absolutely doable when you work hard and it's well worth.
if you need help don't hesitate to PM me :-)

    As a Newbie,

I agree with all of the OP's points.

The emphasis I would personally apply to each point would be different. For example, the suggestion the cost should be low. As a newbie I am just not going to shell out $497 or even $997 on blind faith and the odd positive view on WF. Some newbies are trusting and will just get burned. But then again that's a (harsh) lesson they may need to learn?

I have bought one WSO for $5, which came with a an OTO for $9. So not a great loss if it turns out to be useless. It hasn't made be any money yet, but I now know what Gimp.com is, and have created my first eBook cover. So far then I give it 5/10.

Don't get me wrong...I expect to pay!! What I also expect is, if I pay you, or rather the seller, actually delivers!

So, if you say, "step-by-step" guide or the like. That your "step-by-step" guide starts, at the beginning, (not in the middle) ends at the end, (not in the middle,) and provides ALL the steps beginning, middle and end, not just "most" of them!

Experienced IM'ers might be great at IM, but overwhelmingly indifferent at communicating detail and quite possibly just poor at communicating, full stop, but they should consider the possibility that it's their communication which needs improving not their IM'ing.

Because experienced IM'ers constantly like to dismiss newbies for, "not taking any action!" Well, got news for you. A newbie will quickly come to a grinding halt and not be able to take further action if one of the steps in the "step-by-step" method has been left out!

3/ What is the lowest education person can start IM job.

Find a mentor/coach that will be willing to really work with you would be more valuable as a newbie than anything else. Most newbies get information overload and dont focus in one direction. There has been some great suggestions in this thread. Mine would be to find a mentor/coach.
