WordPress or XSitePro

When it comes to making small/simple affiliate-type sites, which is the better choice, and why?:

Looking for opinions...

Thanks!

    I don't think there is a "better choice", your choice will be made depending on several things, I have used both so I will give you my opinion; You need to take into account;

    1. your technical knowlegde; how much time are you willing to put into learning WP in order to install and upgrade it with new releases? with XSP there is no upgrading (on the server)

    2. your hosting setup; do you have access to create database?, this is a must with WP, but not required with XSP.

    3. do you want to keep updating the site content? with WP you can automate this task easily, if you want, however, with XSP you would need to buy and install other scripts to provide automation.

    4. a WP site will "probably" get indexed quicker than a XSP site

Most of the things you can do in WP relatively easily and for free, you can also do in XSP but you will have to hunt around to find the right scripts to make it work.

a XSP site is easy to create on your PC then you just FTP to your server. WP is also relatively easy to setup and maintain if you have some knowledge of cpanel and installing scripts, but a lot of people shy away from this.

I started off with a XSP (v1) site, but soon converted to WP, now all my sites are built on WP.

    my conclusion:
if you have already bought XSP and you just want a site with 3-4 pages and you don't want to update too often go with XSP .

if you have not bought XSP save your money; get WP, it's free, use the money saved to get a good affiliate style theme, you will probably find some in the WSO forum. and get some instructional videos on using WP.

This is my same situation and I agree. I do you Semiologic with WP as I do like the features... but I am also new to WP(only three months)

    Thanks, Scorpio9.

For the record, I do already own XSitePro2. Just wondering if I should be using WordPress instead, for the type of sites mentioned above.

    Thanks again!

I too use xsitepro2 but after coming across all of the free wordpress templates they got I have to mix it up a bit. Take a look at wptmp.com...you'll see what I'm talking about.

I agree with scorpio9, XSP will be better if you are not going to update the site, however you should be adding content over time.

I use a combination of Artisteer and Wordpress, Artisteer will create a theme for you in less than 5 seconds, and they are pretty good too.

You might want to check out Artisteer, it's a really good application, it can export for wordpress, joomla, drupal, standard html, ASP.net and CodeCharge studio.

They have a trial that creates a watermark on the graphics if you want to just test it out.

WordPress can do everything XSP can do. With addition of hundreds of free plugins & themes.

    So in summary:

XSITEPRO: For noob web designers. Get a site up in no time. And with min learning effort. Designing own template is piece of cake and fun.

WordPress: For noob and advanced. Potential is unlimited. But can be hell if you want to design your own template. That's why most elance or rentacoder it.

Still have XSP on PC. Used it a lot. But after you get to know WP, you just won't go back because you have no reason to. Apparently this is pattern most follow. XSP to eventually WP.

All in all XSP will rule the internet no matter how many free scripts are out there. Why? Because it's powerful and easy to learn, use and design with. And most people want that over WordPresses technical side of operations.

That's not quite right. XSP has some advanced features that would be difficult to do in WordPress:

      - If you want to publish an ebook or long articles as multiple web pages (for better SEO), XSP has a wizard that will break up the ebook into web pages for you. You'd have to do that manually in WordPress.

      - XSP makes it super easy to install autoresponder code. In WP, you have to mess with html.

      - XSP also makes it easy to collect and use affiliate links and redirects. Maybe WP has a plug in for this. Anybody know of one?

If all you are trying to do is publish a 1-3 page salesletter site or minisite, XSP is easier.

There is another solution.. that we use... but all have their place.. even static sites with mailmerge.. For ourselves.. we take long term view.. so use drupal..

The only real way.. is to test it for yourself..

We still get surprised..that one page of static html ranks so highly.. sometimes..

Wow wordpress is very simple, the whole basis of it owning a php structure just makes it one of my most awesome discoveries ever in my whole entire life.

Before wordpress, I saw nothing, with wordpress I have vision, there is just so much you can do with wordpress it is unbeleivable.

I would never discourage anyone from using wordpress, there are reasons you would use something like XSitePro, but wordpress is just far too powerful to leave behind.

            I have X-Site 2 & use both

Sales letters / squeeze pages - X-Site Pro simple to set up in minutes exactly how you want it.

            Modifying Minisites - NVU

Review sites with a review theme, Blog obviously, Free Forum - Wordpress

Small sites - Toss UP probably Wordpress for indexing advantages

Larger sites - i still prefer x-site but maybe because i am unfamiliar with all Wordpress plugins. I like the layout & menu options + different right panel (offers to match content)

For someone starting out it has to me X-Site so simple to use.

            Good Luck with your choice

There is no argument in my mind having tried both.
Wordpress just wins hands down for getting indexed by Google
and if you use the correct plugins you will get ranked.

I love XSP, it is good, I have learned a lot of the internet marketing white hat tricks from it (althought they are not tricks at all), the sites I have done with it have ranked well in SE's, the only down is that the templates, even though are plenty, are limited, I love to have more templates.

But definitively it is a good product to have

I enjoy using both. I prefer using xsitepro mainly for review sites as I like the control it gives me over layout and design.

I also prefer using the features in Xsitepro to add code, images, etc.

Wordpress I like as its quick and you can do mst things quite easy with a simle "push of a button"

    Great Thread here. Very informative.

I have xsitepro 2 and have dabbled with wordpress. I'm creating an info site where I will update info via video as well as article content continually. I'll be making recommendations for various products and services that I have had success with.

For these purposes what would you recommend. xsitepro or wordpress?

    Thanks in advance.

    HI

I like both... but am moving more over to WP... but I will still use XSP for most of my sites right now.

I like having every thing on my desk top...

What I like about WP is the mass support and plugins that you can get for free..

Some great info here and you have reminded me how good XSPro is and yet Wordpress is awesome to.I think they are both worth having and using, someone wrote that they have trouble with WP, I found a great answer for that called Affiliate Themes at affiliatetheme.net I think its very handy especially if you are into affiliate marketing.
