Which Hosting Company?

I never had a problem with hostgator. There can always something go wrong. Maybe today it's hostgator and tomorrow bluehost.....

If your referring to the migration of c-panels accounts they recently implemented, I personally have had no issues with them migrating my c-panel account. Further more I have had no major issues with HG since I opened a hosting plan with them 3 years ago.

If it would happen, THEN I would look for a different company. If a hosting company cannot manage their own servers, than that’s a bad sign...

There's another thread on here somewhere that goes into detail, but I have 20 websites here Website Hosting I Recommend but I continue to warn people about their class action sueable policy to shut down an entire account due to a tos violation on one domain.

The customer service by phone rules. The email customer service seems to just point things out.

Most of the problems and complaints revolve around the same companies: HostGator, BlueHost, JustHost, HostMonster - they're all the same. Let's not forget that all of the people that got pissed at BlueHost, moved to HostGator & are now being moved right back to BlueHost.

HostGator = HostMonster = BlueHost = same company = EIG
Avoid EIG.

Find a non-EIG company like Site5, Arvixe, Stablehost, VeeroTech, etc.

I've had one of Hostgator's Reseller packages to run my own hosting biz for my clients for over a year now and I have not had any complaints from any of my clients. When small issues do come up, they have always been quick to remedy the situation.

I've tried a good number - MediaTemple, Slicehost etc but since I've opened an AWS, I haven't thought about switching. There's lots of evidence out there that AWS isn't the cheapest or offers the most value in terms of support, reliability etc. That said, it's the most complete suite of hosting services out there for developers IMO.

For convenience alone with things like docs, billing etc it's ideal for me also.

My favorite is A Small Orange. They tell you how much bandwidth and disk space you are really getting (no "unlimited" BS), their monthly prices are nice and flat (if they say the monthly price is $5, then it's staying $5, even after your initial purchase) and I've always liked oranges (used to down a whole carton of OJ as a kid. In fact, I still sometimes do that).

Also if you check Webhostingtalk forum everyday you will see complains regarding huge down time with hostgator.

Think of trying hosting services from a2hosting.com and obhosting.com.
Both have affordable prices and plan which are resourceful.
Support is active and helpful.

I've used a host of hosting companies including HostGator (okay), GoDaddy (never again), Netfirms (slow loading), DreamHost (don't like: no cPanel), and recently JustHost (jury is still out).

Most provide a quick response to problems, but not all have delivered adequate solutions to them. For example, any change you want to make on your site with a DreamHost account, you actually have to make a request for them to do the change and thus a delay.

If I had to make a recommendation from the experiences I've had so far based on the services I've used and the uptime I have witnessed with my sites, I would have to go with HostGator.

I had a dedicated server with G V O and it couldn't handle more than 300 people on the site at any given time, so I moved everything over to Rackspace and have never been happier.

Hostgator for sure. A friend of mine used GoDaddy and I HostGator, she had problem with Godaddy for the last week for 3 days while I knew nothing about internet mis-connection here in my part of the Pacific. Hostgator is THAT good.

What kind of hosting really depends on what you are looking for. I would make sure they offer several different packages from what you want to start with all the way to dedicated, so you can easily upgrade as your business grows.

For shared hosting I completely stay away from EIG companies and go exclusively with HawkHost. They don't oversell there servers and the support is just excellent. For all of my VPS/Dedicated needs I go with Wiredtree.

Yeah, I know sometimes it seems like you always hear about the same ones. At times you would think Hostgator or Godaddy are the only ISP's that exits. You can't always go by who gets the biggest voice.

I have tried many ISP, and my three favorite are Justhost, 1&1, and Startlogic. Justhost always tries to hit you up with upgrades and stuff, but other than that, you just got to make sure you don't click on those if you don't want them. 1&1 I like a lot because they were always very reliable.

I choose Startlogic as the favorite, simply because of the customer service they give.

That might not mean a lot to those who are so techy that can handle everything themselves, but I like the fact that you never have to be put on hold for very long, you get to talk to an actual person, you don't have to go through all the voicemail crap, and the person you get to talk to isn't some east Indian that you can't understand, who is just reading off of a script or something off their computer screen, and they actually walk you through your problem, or take care of the problem for you. That's very unusual customer service today. lol
