Weebly hosting performance?

Weebly & Wix are not hosting companies nor do they specialize in it. They're both proprietary site builders so when you decide you want to leave, you'll have tons of work ahead of you to move your website.

Absolute rubbish.

In fact they ARE hosting companies and do a great job of it. The "hook" to using them is the excellent software they offer for building your website. In addition, (although I cannot speak for Wix), moving a Weebly site is a matter of 4 clicks, and drastically easier than Wordpress.

Weebly is no doubt a very reliable hosting Platform. They offer both free and Paid Services. There servers are really fast and Services and tools are Great. I also like their Website Builder.

Hi Guys - Chris from Weebly here. Just wanted to chime in on the hosting comment.

Weebly is, in fact, a hosting & technology company at our core. My team is in charge of infrastructure, and I can tell you first-hand that we spend a considerable amount of time on performance, scalability, and reliability.

So much so, that our free hosting is better than most paid offerings. We operate our own network from the ground-up, have true multi-datacenter redundancy, real traffic scalability (sites hosted across many, many servers. no single point of failure), we handle DDoS mitigation, and we purchase transit directly from many diverse tier 1 network providers (no bandwidth oversubscription).

No they're not. They don't provide web hosting. They host their own proprietary software, therefor, not a web hosting company. Do they sell web hosting?

Any website for that matter outputs HTML - the only differences are the back ends and how the site(s) are created. Wordpress, Joomla, static HTML all have no differences in terms of ranking. Popular CMS's often have different plugins to do the work for you. I'd recommend learning the manual way first.

It's not semantics. :rolleyes:

It's not a host, period. You use proprietary software, and they "host" it, and only it. When you decide to move -- when, not if -- you're pretty much screwed. You can't take the site with you, you can't get another (better) host, so you're stuck. You can either stay and have problems, or you can start over.

That's so 1990s, like the free hosts of the time. "Our way or the highway!"

It's not a host. Not even close.

It's about what you need from a website and what your goals for it are. For me, Weebly is much quicker off the start than WP, and you can have a VERY professional looking website up in a few minutes. No need to purchase templates, no training needed, no back up worries, and no hosting issues. I agree it may not be perfect for every purpose, but neither is any other solution.

Right, business model: Website Builder. Unless you use THEIR website builder, you cannot use them, therefor, not a web host. If you changed your mind one day and said "Hey, I'd like to host my very own coded website..."are you going to upload that to Weebly?

Hello, Wix and Weebly are two of the best website builders on the market today - accounting for around 40 million personal & small business websites between them.

Wix
Wix holds the lion's share of the hosted website builder market with over 25 million users.

Wix is popular because it has a slick, template based drag and drop design interface that also allows for eCommerce integration.
One of the major distinguishing features of Wix is that it supports HTML5, which allows for a far superior browsing experience for your visitors.

Weebly
Weebly has been around a bit longer than Wix and seems to have some of their bugs figured out. There are some features that Wix performs better, but overall Weebly is a far superior "drag and drop" site builder.

Just like Wix, Weebly has both a free and a paid version. While Wix allows you to place text, image, html code, etc. wherever you would like, Weebly limits users to specific formats. You cannot place an image anywhere you would like, but rather must be placed in a formatted fashion. This definitely does limit how customizable your site could be. Though this may seem like a downfall when compared to Wix, I have never had a formatting problem with Weebly. Wherever my site editor shows that my box or text ends, is exactly how it shows up. I consider this a pro for Weebly over Wix.

It floors me how some members of WF are so stubborn.
- It's not a host. It's an app site. Yes, they "host" the app, but it's not a web host.
- Furthermore, you're stuck and cannot move to an actual host, migrate the site, etc

If you want to use it, great!
But realize what it is and isn't BEFORE signing up.

Personally I love weebly, I used it as plan b or backup before. Because viewing it not as a hosting company, not until I wanted to launch a WSO and had continued trouble with Hostgator. Weebly is fast, easy, and reliable. See it yourself and have a try.
