Well hello every one, i dont mean to contradict or oppose but lately i checked cutomer reviews and ipage, hostgator and others had really bad reviews. Sites like Greengeeks and siteground has great reviews. 5 Star. Thanks

Hostgator and Yahoo Web Hosting gets my top picks. If you ever get to a point where you're low on funds and you can't afford to buy a web hosting package from someone.... sign up for "Freehostia" and get free webhosting from them. But it's free, and you get what you pay for.

I did extensive research a couple of years ago when I was looking for hosting and Bluehost came out tops for everything. In those two years they've never let me down. I have recently heard of some problems with Hostgator and one very large IM related site was offline for a couple of days due to problems with them.

I think the most important thing you want from a host is uptime and I've never heard of any problems with Bluehost regarding that.

That's my 2cents worth. But I still think you should do your own research. :-)

No doubt Hostgator is the best Web hosting company. We have been with Hostgator for several years now and we are completely satisfied. They have great uptime, topnotch technical support via phone, live chat, email/ticket system (Awesome), affordable prices etc

A lot of the shared hosting plans give you some variable uptime and speeds and most will have their problems from time to time.

I personally use inmotion. Most of the time my sites are fast, but they do slow down a little occasionally where I think the server just has a lot of traffic. What I like about them is the support. Even their email support gets back to me pretty quickly when i need help and I only had to wait on chat once.

- HostDime (Pure SSD) a bit pricey $15/month -> Great Uptime, Speed & Support
- GeekStorage (SAS Storage & SSD Database) -> Great Uptime, Speed & Support
- HawkHost & StableHost -> Good Support, Speed & Support

Most of their servers are not over crowded, and especially, they're having a very great support which is the main point when site having the problem. The majority of the time, there is no need to get support because everything usually going smooth with them.

The good part is that they're not promoting Unlimited Plan because how on the earth have unlimited HDD & BW ...

The question I always ask is, how expensive would it be if it broke?

For a clothing line, I'd be looking at a managed private server. For that, I highly recommend ViaVerio. I've been with them (in various previous incarnations) since 1998. They're reasonably priced, at $200 to $300 a month for mid-range private machines.

The big thing for me is competent, readily accessible tech support. I don't need it often, but when I do, I want solid people. Verio has THE best tech support I've dealt with, ever, for a hosting company.

Note: I am not an affiliate. Just a very happy customer of some 15+ years.

Erm...I'm not sure how many "happy" customers they have right now.

I'll just leave this as a chance for mid-range hosts like MDDhost and Stablehost to shine. Their discounts on webhostingtalk allow you to get a year of decent shared hosting for like $50. That's very hard to beat in terms of value and performance.

I'd think about a hosted option before self-hosting. I think with any store, you need validation; on your products, pricing and target customers. With a hosted store, you can get up and running faster and with less money down. Shopify and BigCommerce are probably the best two hosted carts.

Yep, this are the most recommented because they have an affiliate programm!

In the past I had problems with Bluehost (I cannot recomment them) but never with Hostgator.

I purchased many accounts from HostGator. Never had any problem with compatibility with scripts, site speed or database size. Tech support, although we don't need them much, could have been speedier.

HostingZoom used to be a good one for us too, but we had couple of hiccups with them.

I too have been using the HostGator for a while and now have all of my websites hosted under them. I have never had a problem when it comes to uptime or customer service. Only thing I dont like is that they dont give you a free domain like many other hosting services do.

Just moved all my smaller sites from Hostgator to Stablehost.

And FYI, most of all the hosts you listed are owned by the same parent company, EIG. Which doesn't have the best reputation.

Well for starters, one of our members (kpmedia) who seems to be pretty knowledgeable when it comes to hosting lists them at #2 on his review here:

Top Hosts in 2013 - List of overall best shared, reseller, VPS, cloud, dedicated - digitalFAQ.com Support Forum

Their plans were also pretty competitively priced and I liked the fact they included LiteSpeed as well.

If StableHost doesn't have what you need, check out the other sites on that list. I've heard good things about Site5 and Arvixe.

Just make sure the host you pick isn't on this list:

It's like The Matrix, in a way. "Welcome to the real world." You've been misled by fake affiliate lists, and have not seen the real hosting industry.

A few advertise, like 1&1 or Godaddy, but that's also where they spend all their money. So their hosting is terrible too.

The brands you mentioned in that first posts are mostly crap, and only listed because they claim to pay $100 referrals. (Most don't however, but that's another topic for another time.)

Since the EIG buyouts in 2012, Hostgator is a POS now too. Just another low-grade EIG brand. Sadly, few realize this, so continue to praise it for the old reputation, not for the actual current one. Any Hostgator postive reviews you read now can be classified as obsolete and should be ignored.

Once you look past the noise, you'll find real hosts -- and many are quite well-known and respected in this industry. It's just newbies and laymen that can be so easily misled. The REAL top hosts are companies like LiquidWeb, EuroVPS, Stablehost, Namecheap, Site5, etc. And there's great up-and-comers, like Veerotech.

You confusion is understandable. That's why I post here. To help.

My daughter and son-in-law work for Bluehost. They were bought out by the same people who own HostGator (and several other companies). So at least those two are going to get you the same level of service. I also know the VP of whatever-he-does at Bluehost and he's vicious about shutting down spammers.

Hosting industry veteran here. I just wanted to quickly point out, that most of those that you mentioned are brands of the same company: The Endurance Brands | Endurance International

EIG's brands all had about a half-day-long outage last week, but usually they're fine for little affiliate sites that don't need perfect uptime or performance, especially if you're planning to push their law of averages on own of those wildly over-loaded "unlimited" servers. For that, they're all probably good enough, and the price is certainly right.

I do marketing consulting for hosting companies now, so I'm probably too biased to give you a recommendation that the mods will approve of, but if you have a site that's more mission-critical, I'd just look for a more mid-sized hosting shop and do your research on them. There are thousands of good options out there, especially with those running SSDs and creative web server / caching engine arrangements (which can do dramatically good things to your benchmarks).

For the past week, it has been business as usual at HG. I have had no "Site Down" notices from two third party services. It looks like they were able to get over their issues of late.

I am speaking from the context of a dedicated server mind you. However, in this thread, there was also the opportunity to research other hosting companies. I would like to add an excellent VPS service. It is designed for Wordpress hosted sites. I got the referral from iThemes. iThemes Hosting

I logged into a HG dedicated server today and yesterday. They're really, really slow. SSH and WHM are so bad that some modules timeout, and SSH closes mid-process. Again, really, really slow. Even my dedicated servers in Lithunia, half a world away, load faster.

Nothing is fixed there. That's the norm with Hostgator. You can do better.

I've used many different hosting companies and so far I've found HostGator to be the best. I know the owners and the head of support, I used to do some work for them. This work was done after I started using them for my hosting.

Surprisingly yes. I believe their pocket book was deeply in jeopardy. What ever hacks you, makes you stronger. I have been through somewhat similar scenarios. Eventually it all gets handled. I was lucky, because none of my sites are released yet on HG Servers.

But it would have shook the earth, had my sites experienced this "anomaly." During peak hours on a weekend as it occurred. Hackers have no sense of time or consideration for the machines they hurt, lol. So now for me, HG will at least remain until I find better priced and performance. (Dedicated Server).

I haven't read any other replies...I just had to give my opinion as soon as I saw this question. Out of all of the "tools of the trade" that I use in my internet marketing business...the one that I recommend over any other is Hostgator for hosting. Before I knew anything about anything...their customer support helped me every step of the way. I used to think customer support was all the same...you know...people on the other end who hated their jobs and it showed with the level of support they provided. Hostgator is friggen awesome every single time. If you haven't made your choice yet...I'd go with them for sure.

I had some trouble dealing with Hostgator before because I used a different paypal account to purchase a package. Still, the CS where very kind to help me through. I'm all good using Hostgator for my websites now. I also think BlueHost is good.

By the way. Any ideas on what's the cheapest SEO hosting website?

  For all you Hostgator fans, wait until they move you to Utah servers. What a nightmare. System support guys are clueless. I have been hosting at Hostgator for about 6 years and all was good until they sold out last year. Then this move totally screwed the pooch. I've got domains down and lost, cpanel showing totally wrong information (even the IP's are screwed up), email problems, you name it.
  
  I've got clients (web hosting), customers (membership), and new customers (who try to buy and can't) screaming bloody murder right now. What a mess. In fact the reason I'm reading this thread was to get opinions on a new web hosting company.
  
  If I could, I'd drive over to Utah (new location for severs) and throw the whole bunch off the tallest building I could find =8~). I don't think they could have screwed this up anymore even if they were trying.

is Hostgator a good option?
After all the complaints I've saw in the previous days?

Right now I'm using godaddy as my hosting service and I'm pretty happy.
But I want to move my website to another hosting that can handles more traffic (at the moment I'm having 500 hits per day and my website is loading fast). Everything works great but I don't think It will handle for example 4k or 5k of views in just a few hours....
With my first launch soon
Which hosting you recommend?
(a hosting pack that can easily handles more than 5k of customers in a few hours?)

No, Hostgator is not good anymore, (It hasn't been for many months now.)

Godaddy isn't very good, and for the reasons you yourself have stated. If the site gets any degree of decent traffic, it'll be throttled and slow. I saw some tests last week with a 25 concurrent viewership. Godaddy was the only host that froze up when it got to ~20 users at once. Terrible! (HG and the EIG brands went wacky, with 5-10s page loads.)

Good hosts like Site5 and Stablehost fared well in the tests. The load was consistently under 1S, even with 25+ concurrents. You'll likely be able to get quite a few more, meaning thousands of view per month without an issue.

Most advice here is unknowledgeable. Watch out who gives you advice.

I recommend MMDhost personally. Stable gives you 15% of one cpu core while MDD gives you 100% of one. Stable throttled me about a hundred times (their cpanel displays the throttle number) but MDD has been strong even with 700+ visitors.

I can't say they were simultaneous, but I say that's good enough for visits over a 6 - 8 hour period with zero slowing that i could detect.

You should seriously look up BOTH hosts on webhostingtalk, reviews and everything, since they both have discounts there for annual hosting for like $50 - 60.

I doubt that. You're getting 100% usage of your "allocated" CPU threshold, not the entire core itself... See section 7 in their TOS. The threshold at MDD is just s little higher however, I'd be more concerned as to why you're using that much CPU & for how long.

I was told it was one core, just not pushed continuously 24/7 which would mean inefficiency on my end. Their TOS says usage for shared is max 25% of system resources. In any case that's still better than the 15% for Stablehost where I was throttled for a couple dozen visitors a day (my lowest traffic sites!).

I had big problems with Bluehost, so would never recommend them. I use Hostgator and have never had a problem. Great support phone and chat. Even zapped some malware without being asked. Bluehost want $45 a rip off because they didn't clear it.

There was once a time when they were the best. I used them for years without any issues at all. Live chat used to be very quick.

But now they are the total opposite. Live chat is mega slow and replies are much more basic.

I now rent my servers from 100tb.com - Its been much more challenging as 100tb servers don't come set up out of the box but it's the best move I could have made.

if you with hostgator then you really should start to consider moving before they get you frustrated.

I've just had a client bought the baby plan at hostgator.

We've had issues already, like downtime and something with the email system as well. Called them several times, spent about an hour on phone altogether.

I'd had an account a few years back, had no problem, but things may've changed since then.

Just stay away from hostgator. They got issues recently...

For 300 concurrent hitting MySQL, you'll need a VPS. But I doubt that's what you mean anyway. I think Site5 would be ideal here. It has a little more resource leeway than Stablehost does. I have a link to my suggestions (and why) or my other posts at WF. Signatures are disabled for some reason in this thread. Can't help as much as I like here.

Hi...I use GVO been with them 7 years and not one problem ..support is great and live chat with support desk.. even if you have to pot a ticket in they are back to you in less than 24 hours ....I have 27 websites with them and I give them 100%

For your information, hostgator has cancelled my account because they don't want to solve the continuous problems on my server (not serious, just identical problems on 5 of my domains within 2 months).

After I submitted my ticket reply to the point I received paypal notice of my cancellation, it took them 2 mins without prior notice to do so. I have to submit another ticket to tell them I have no access for to my stuff on my hosting that they are aware of this, and that they should informed me and give me like 30 mins to back up. 5 hours from them, still no notice for my cancellation.

How long does it take them to answer my ticket? 72 hours to copy and paste the former one. How long does it take to cancel your account, within 120 seconds including paypal sent you notice.

for handling more then 2k visitors in an hour shared hosting wont be good. cause in shared hosting your cpu and other resources are limited so in result your website wont load fast (if your website just have static pages then you can use shared hosting ).

if you are having good traffic on your website then i will suggest you to have a VPS (SSD Will be also good) you can handle good amount of visitors in vps hosting . for SSD VPS you can choose DegitalOcean .com .

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE.

I decided to go with blue host.. I couldn't even use filezilla to go ftp because apparently there were some troubles to log in..
I used live chat and it took more than 30minutes just to make realize the guy that i had a problem.. the ticked i opened i never had feedback..
I just asked my money back and I least I got a full refund.

I'm thinking about trying just host.. I know should be the same but still anytime money back guarantee..

I don't know of an exhaustive list of non-eig hosts, but search for a host and compare to a comprehensive list of hosts to avoid.

So that unfortunately does not tell us much. People on here will just pop up with their favorite hosting. In reality you need to tell us more about the "small commerce business."

Are you using a shopping cart? Which one? Magento? Prestashop? Opencart? Tomato Cart? Spree?
Or are you going the amateur route and using wordpress?
Are you checking out on site? Or are you just using PayPal web standard?
How many products will you have? 20 products, 200 products, 2000 products?
How many options?

All of these will let us give you targeted advice based on what you tell us. Are you using a dedicated cart, well cheap hosting won't do you any good. Are you using opencart? Well you need to make sure you have Mod-rewrite enabled for SEO friendly URL's. Do you want to have your own SSL or a shared SSL? You will need your own IP address, that is an extra cost.

I have hostgator shared and have noticed it getting much slower over the last few months. I am using Veerotech for my offline customers and have been pleased with the performance. Dedicated IP's are more expensive than other providers but good quality hosting (lightspeed servers, softaculous vs fantastico) means its worthwhile for me.

You also might be better off going for a hosted shopping cart where you don't have to worry about the hosting, SSL, Shipping API, it is all done for you at a reasonable monthly cost.

To be honest, if someone is building it for you, then they should be able to direct you to proper hosting theoretically (that being said more and more "web designers" put people on Godaddy... another time...). If they can't tell you good quality hosting to use for your site, why would you use them to make your site?

It says no one of those has paypal support.. what does it means? That my "webmaster" can't integrate paypal in the website as payment? or just that they don't give it user ready? or that i can't pay them via paypal (who cares)

We have plans slightly lower than that but majorly lower and you are opening up a can of worms for inferior/crappy quality hosting.

There is not a magic formula to reduce hosting costs. Instead, the $1/month hosts will cram 2000 accounts per server to try get a decent revenue per server and your site will be left hanging day in, day out.

Lots of the most popular hosts are owned by the same company and run on the same servers, with the same customer support. Hosts like Bluehost and Hostgator are examples of this. You can find the full list here. In the past, some of these hosts were good, but lately I personally have been having problems with Bluehost uptime, and I've heard the same from a lot of people.

Awhile back, someone in Warrior Forum shared this list of web hosts that are supposed to be high quality.

I was checking out seohosting.com for my website and found this one - dollarseohosting.com.

Very interesting fact that when you push order or ad now button i cam to the same page where seohosting.com also websites are very similar too.

Only think is that the price for $1 / c-class.

But with seohosting the price for $7.00 / c-class

Crazy!!! Do you now something about this or it is a scam?

Welcome online. I would have to agree with the rest and say Hostgator as well.
Great customer support and more importantly - its easy to use.
I seen people charging ridiculous amounts of money to "help" you configure hosting etc.

But with Hostgator - you can get set up very easily. Else, there's lots of great help on Youtube.

I've had HostRocket for about 10yrs. now.... Granted, I had sites just siting there not doing much but after being laid off after 21 yrs. I'm jumping into IM with both feet.
Hostrocket is cheap and reliable with a lot of software and plug-ins included... great personal tech support for the 2-3 times I had a stupid question... they also spun off a VOIP company and I've had them for about 7 yrs. now $199 per year, tons of features and always 1/2 off deals or renew now, get a year free... Hosting, I pay $3.99 mo. (grandfathered) I think they charge 5.99 now. VOIP works out to be about $11.00 per month (plus $2-3 bucks in gov't fees and taxes per month) price includes 60 min international per mo. .02-.03 per min after.

I have to chime in about Hostgator going downhill. I was a long time customer and then they shut down my sites without warning a couple of years back. I was sad to leave because I worked in tech support for years and they had great tech support.

So I went with a VPS at Servint (came highly recommended) but it is slow and I'm constantly having problems with them so I tried to go back to Hostgator with a VPS about 2 months ago. After 2 weeks of screwing around with their now very slow support center (tickets - yuck) I gave up.

So, yes, Hostgator has changed and is not nearly as good as it used to be. I used to be able to send a simple email to support and get a rocket fast accurate answer. Now, I have to go to a ticket site, fill out a ticket and wait and wait and don't get helpful answers any longer.

So, now I'm looking to replace Servint and Hostgator! And, I'm not afraid to pay for good hosting. It's important. Going with cheap hosting is like putting diesel in a gas engine. You can start it and it will run, but you'll know the difference for sure and so will your customers. It just makes you look bad.

  why is it when a newbie asks about hosting most reccommend hosting companies that no one has heard of or ones that are too expensive and dont offer good service.
  there are a lot of bad reviews for bluehost and even more for immotion

Hostgator is superior over all others. Their 24 hours chat support have never failed to answer any of my questions or fix any problems I've had. After every chat I've always left a 9 or 10 vote on their voting system. It's hard to find support as good as Hostgators.

If you want something that works without being never offline, and with an excellent customer support, go straight to Site5 or Midphase. I tried also Hostgator (I've 2 hosting with them), JustHost, CirtexHosting and Aruba (from Italy) but they are not so good for many different reasons, that I personally think are necessary.
