Have only heard of this on this forum.

    Seems to be using AWS.

What are your requirements & what type of hosting are you looking for? Not to trash their company, which I'm sure is great, but AWS isn't the place you want to host if you're looking for performance.

I can't seem to figure out if they specialize in web hosting solutions or just offer a bunch of whatever marketing stuff and have hosting as a "me too" service.

Viewing their website seems more so as a "sales pitch" than a service provider. Reminds me of GVO's we offer everything under the sun, but not really an expert in 1 given service.

There's nothing about where the "company" is located, no information about them, what technologies they use, qualifications they have, experience, support techs etc etc.

Of course, that's just my opinion after looking through their site. I could be completely wrong.

Insty.me is a new hosting service developed and owned by Nick Jolin, who is a software developer and Internet Marketer. Nick’s company is JolinCo, LLC. Nick is an Advanced War Room Member on the Warrior Forum, and has offered several successful WSOs in the past.

I own an account with Insty.me, and I have NO affiliate links, whatsoever, anywhere on the Warrior Forum, nor do I profit in any way from this review. I just want readers to know the facts. Insty.me specializes in WordPress, which is automatically installed on every primary account, and also offers an Insty.me Desktop Software application that can access your account's cPanel directly from your computer’s hard drive. The Host is very WordPress friendly. Insty.me’s Linux Hosting Dedicated Servers use the Amazon Service for their infrastructure, which is extremely secure and offers 99.99% uptime! This gives you all the advantages of using Amazon for your Hosting server without all the hassles involved with setting this up yourself with Amazon Hosting. Amazon’s servers are harder to hack into than many Government owned servers giving Insty.me Hosting true Weapons grade security for your WordPress server.

In addition to shared accounts, Insty.me offers Reseller and Cloud Accounts, which are much more flexibile than standard VPS and Dedicated servers. They also offer an integrated self hosted Autoresponder complete with Admin Panel and access to Amazon SES or Simple Email Service. Nick designed Insty.me to offer a host of services for Business and Internet Marketers.

The Insty.me domain is hosted by Amazon Web Services and Amazon.com, Inc. located at 1200 12Th Avenue South, Seattle, WA, 98144, US. and Insty.me (DNS) Domain Name Servers are located in Woodbridge, New Jersey.

In the long run, I do believe Insty.me needs to do a better job of posting all of its relevant information online via its main web site, but so far their new services are excellent, customer support is outstanding, and all of my web sites load blazingly fast on Amazon's incredible servers!

I'm apprehensive on principle alone as far as moving hosting to startup companies that have less than 5 years selling hosting. It may not be fair to startups, but there are lots of things in life that are not fair. I've seen several come and go in the dozen or so years I've been paying for hosting.

I came up with a short list of shared hosting providers that seem reasonable and don't get many bad reviews:
        Glowhost
        Frog Host - Web Hosting
        Site5 Web Hosting
        Siteground
        JaguarPC
        Arvixe
        PacificHost

I moved several of my sites to Glowhost, because they seemed to be the best deal for me. They handled the relocation of more than 20 sites without a glitch, no downtime.

Hostgator, Hostmonster, Bluehost, Ipage, JustHost and FatCow are all heavily promoted hosts that are owned by EIG and are all hosted in the same datacenter owned by EIG and most are quickly gaining a reputation for bad customer service and lousy performance.
See a complete list of EIG sites here:

came here looking for opinions on Insty.me as I signed up in August, paid my initial invoice, set it up for recurring billing and have just discovered that they never rebilled me, site is down, and I cannot access my customer acct to see what the situation is! Site was a new one, still being built so not a big deal - but sent an email to their support 2 days ago - no response, filed a support ticket last night - and no email confirmation of ticket received as promised after submission, second ticket this am - same deal. No response from anyone.

Should not have been any issue with the billing - but if there was - there should have been some emails from them regarding a billing issue - nothing has been received from them since the initial set-up and welcome emails in August.

Had hoped that this would be a good replacement for GVO but not very happy at the moment to put it mildly!

Just responded to your PM - thanks!

Two tickets plus a direct email to the support email - no response. Not only using the same email address - but also sent them the original welcome/set-up email that contains all of the acct details, so they should be able to find the account easily enough!

Cannot login to the WP installation because the acct is down. During the initial set-up and even 'presale' questions were answered quickly - but there has been nothing from them since the initial welcome message and the initial invoice and receipt. That was August 14th and it was live until very recently, although I do not see any invoice for any other payments from them.

The odd part is that the user acct is also unaccessible and there are no emails from them that there was any issue with billing or otherwise.

Off to find another host which is a shame - I had high hopes for this one as I really liked some of the features.

I can't blame you for being upset. This makes no sense. I have received several invoices from Insty.me and I just paid my bill with them a couple of days ago with no problem. Also, they have responded to my tickets very quickly. I'm really curious as to what's going on. I assume you are using the same email you signed up with. Do you have any emails from them with login IDs and Passwords? They have an initial procedure for setting up an account. If you have a WordPress site, have you tried logging in to it's Admin account? I came from GVO, too. I receive no compensation from them, whatsoever, to say this, but I would be more than happy and willing to try to resolve this for you. I can send them a ticket through my account and try to get to the bottom of this for you. Just PM me or reply to this post and we can proceed! :-)

A lot of new "hosts" are neither actual hosts, or real businesses -- just kids/amateurs looking to make money. Is that who you want in control of your websites, which you rely on to make money?

    Always use a reputable provider.

At least 90% of the new "hosts" fail within a year. Most of the rest fail in 2-3 years. About 1% survive to 5 years.

I own several decent software products built by Nick and he has always provided me with very good support if needed. He is the guy that created a bunch of useful Sensei labeled products, Link Swiper, and some others, and for sure he has had several successful software product launches on WF.

I don't use his hosting which is his latest endeavor. He has not posted on here for a while, but you can try PMing him here.

Nick has made 486 posts on the forum counting his WSO posts and he is no noobie to the WF, coding software, or providing support. It's not like Nick to not respond to issues...but obviously it looks like he has not taken care of Melody. This is the support desk I have always contacted him on:

I have nothing but good to say about Nick and Insty.me.

Not sure if having only a couple hundred posts qualifies me to speak on behalf of the company but...

I did my research and spoke to Nick prior to moving from the problem laden Hostgator to Instyme and I've had excellent service from support - when they contacted me about a problem they were having with several of my WordPress sites being brute forced attack and made several suggestions and wanted to know which I wanted to go with.

I've been with them since the first of August so there isn't a long relationship but so far so good for me.

I did pay for 6 months up front and just checked a few of my sites and the user portal at insty.me and everything is up and working for me.

      Hopefully that does not change

@Melody, I did just put in a support ticket about this thread so we'll see if that helps or not - hope it does and you will have a happier story to tell in the very near future.

    Hey All,

It's been a while since I've been here at the Warrior Forum! Thanks to Steve for letting me know this thread was going.

Melody - I'm sorry to hear that you haven't had a response to your communication. This is definitely not normal. Please PM me privately and I can work with you to make sure everything you need is taken care of for you.

If anyone else is here looking for help, our support center is at this link:

    https://insty.me/client/submitticket.php

This system is manned 24/7 and we take all support very seriously. The support system is a login type system, so it will need an Insty.me client login. If for any reason you can't login, you can use the sales department to leave a ticket, where no login is required. That link is here: https://insty.me/client/submitticket...tep=2&deptid=2

To anyone interested, I have been hosting for a couple years now. First started with SenseiHosting, and earlier this year, created Insty.me.

The response has been nothing short of Awesome, and I've enjoyed working with MANY of the customers inside Insty.me personally.

Again, Melody, I'll reach out to you with the email we have on file for you.

Anyone else, just shoot me a message and I'll do my best to help!

    Thanks much!

      Nick -

As stated above - access to my client portal is blocked. I have now sent in two tickets via your contact form - the message after submission says that I would receive a copy of the ticket to my email but nothing ever arrived. I even included the welcome email with all account details.

I also sent two emails to support@insty.me DIRECTLY since the welcome emails came from that address.....no response.

I then sent an email from my gmail account thinking that perhaps your emails were now getting blocked by my ISP - and that one bounced back with the message that your help desk can only accept emails from recognized client email addresses - so I guess you must have my email address in your system still.

Interestingly......I get Nick's newsletters.....which come from insty.me...so I don't think my ISP is blocking their IP address....

Thank you to everyone here for helping.....but the situation is still not resolved since none of the tickets or emails have been responded to.....

I haven't updated this because I went to bed - sorry, but I do sleep from time to time.

Nick - if you read the above posts from me - then there should be no question as to whether or not I am receiving your responses! Obviously I am not, otherwise I would never have posted here in the first place! If you are responding, then you are apparently blocked by TimeWarner Cable email now. I say now because in August when I signed up, you were not. I received the original emails just fine.

BUT.....I also sent you a ticket using my gmail email address via the sales contact form, since it is the only one a 'non-customer' can access. I included all details of the issue, and my original account details. To date, there has been no response and you have not responded here via PM, only in the open forum. Since it would appear that I am not getting your direct emails - then this would have been a better way to resolve this than to send me a personal email.....

At this point I really don't know what to do. Obviously, your emails to the email address on my account are not getting to me, so I cannot respond to them - which is why I posted here in the first place.

I DID send you an alternate way to reach me - my gmail address - and I still have not had any response. Just did a search of my gmail account, just in case, and still nothing. I also have my personal emails route through my gmail acct for back-up....and your emails are no where to be found, so even if my ISP was blocking you...they should have been received via the gmail set-up.

You have a great system, and I am sure that this is just a glitch of some kind - but there hasn't even been a PM to me here - which would have been the fastest way to resolve this since obviously your emails are not getting through to me....but no PM either.

          So...the update is....still no resolution.

I've just went over the special offer for this hosting for 1 buck which had a timer etc. but could see that it's actually the same offer as at their official sales page so was a bit disappointing to see a "false scarcity" offer.

Now, I host at an EIG company and was a victim of the host disaster a few weeks ago. BUT on the other hand, I also can say that this was since years of cheap shared hosting the first bigger problem I faced at Hostmonster.

In this business we simply have to realize that our expectation of hosting is maybe not what the reality is able to deliver at 99.99% of all times. There will ALWAYS be some sort of a problem because technology and man power do FAIL from time to time.

We trust and rely too much on technology and machines, till they fail.

And which brick and mortar never had a problem with water or power supply, missing supply of goods due to a union strike or has been robbed or whatsoever.....it's part of your RISK MANAGEMENT, or should be.

My logic about a host is, the more a host has to lose the more he will take care about his assets. It's a sword with 2 sides but a company like EIG has to please their shareholders AND their clients to or they will not keep up the turnover.

Smaller hosting companies CAN be a better choice, but you have to pay way more for the quality you expect.

This is business and my worries are to put mine into the hand of a person oriented hosting business like Nicks.

How does this business work if Nick is sick, at vacation or even worse, if he dies in a car accident? Is there a organization behind him which works independently to support MY business?

I'd like to express that this is absolutely NOT a bad review about this hosting service, I didn't signed up (yet). It's a concern from a potential consumer.

I actually think that the Instyme offer looks cool with some cool features which are helping us marketers to manage and run our business.

I actually looked into Amazon hosting after the EIG crash but some told me to stay away (can't remember why).

Another point I have which keeps me yet from signing up is the build in AR. I have AWeber and do not plan on leaving it, so I actually would have to pay for a service I don't need.

Why I can't opt out of that?

So overall, I would really love to see some more flexibility in my package, and maybe a real special offer for us Warriors like 50% off for the Business package (just take out the Affiliate feature for the unlimited plan for this)

At $15 a month I would sign up right away as I'm not interested into promoting this.

Just some comments and pointers from myself, I'm still looking into this till the timer hit's 0 days to go :-)

      Hey G,

We don't have a timer on any of our sites, so if you are seeing a timer type site, it might be from an affiliate of Insty.me.

Every business has to start somewhere. Insty.me is no different. Yes, we are a small business at the moment, but that's definitely not a bad thing. I have seen some AMAZING small businesses totally revolutionize the industry. Why?? Cause they AREN'T a larger conglomerate stuck in their ways.

I don't like thinking in the box. It's just not my way. If you've ever been a customer of mine, you probably know this. I like taking things to the next level while helping people as much as I can. Insty was born from the fact that I didn't like how things were when I tried to get into the online marketing space, so I thought I would jazz it up a bit and offer something new, something exciting.

If you were to ask me today, where I think Insty.me will be in 2 years, I would tell you that it will be EVERYWHERE. That's where I want it to be. I made it a goal, and Lord willing, I'm going to do what I can personally and put people in place that can take Insty.me where it deserves to be.

Anyway, just wanted to get that out there

I do appreciate your comments and suggestions, and will always take things into consideration from those that are interested in hosting with us.

I don't know if I'll offer an a-la-carte type of setup where you can choose options. We may very well do this in the near future, but for now, I've settled on offering the plans and packages and focusing on making them awesome and easy to use.

Melody, can you give an update on this?

Hi Neil, thank you very much for your feedback and explanations.

I agree with your on every point and actually like to congratulate you to the achievement to get Instyme live and running as so many entrepreneurs stop at the "I have an idea" stage and never finish what they plan.

Your ideas with the added tools is absolutely great and a fresh and intuitive way to make a hosting offer better for Marketers.

What I maybe and hopefully could transmit with my comment was that with hosting, the most important part to get clients IMO is TRUST, as in any partnership.

Clients first priority is "does it work with a 99% uptime on the long run?"

I always compare hosting with a marriage (which also is never perfect, just so to say).

So if you can get trust over showing your organization and how it works together with great testimonials AND the extra tools you offer, then you have definitely a winner here.

I am a WSO client from Hostdeal which initially was a great product but now, after over a year, it fails to deliver and whom put his main business at that host will have to switch to another one (Your offer is completely different so it's not a comparative of the offer, only due to the similarity).

Would you be willing to mention who's in your team to support your clients and what backup and security system you have in place if problems occurs NOT Amazon related, what infrastructure your system in build on, are you having a LLC which assumes responsibility if needed etc....

Sorry to be a P.I.T.A but I like to know who is my business partner.

        G.

P.S. I checked the offer with the timer, it was from an affiliate.

Technically, yes, but Nick never pm'd me here. He finally responded to my gmail address and we switched my account to my gmail address, but the fact that they kept sending responses to the acct that has their domain blocked, even after I posted here is baffling. Nick never pm'd me here - instead stated that he had, again, responded to the email address on the acct.

It appears that my ISP TimeWarmer Cable has Insty.me blocked, and that is an issue from my perspective. I think it is also important to have phone access with your host if you running more than a couple of sites. Since we had hoped to move al lot our sites over from GVO, we are obviously rethinking the situation.

Still love the concept and features, and I know it's still a small company, and there are obviously going to be some growing pains, but not sure it is the best fit for us at this time.

I would recommend companies that specialize in hosting - not combining a bunch of software and "goodies" together. As for Time Warner, I know for a fact that they send rejection messages - so not keeping up on that is not a good thing either. Most places utilize external blacklists with the exception of Yahoo, AOL and a few others - they maintain internal lists that get listed when their customers report spam from emails.

This is most likely the problem as the Barracuda Networks listing is widely used:

BarracudaCentral.org - Technical Insight for Security Pros

The domain name insty.me is listed on Barracuda's Intent Block List. To report any issues regarding your domain reputation, please contact intent@barracuda.com.
The domain insty.me does not exist in our WebFilter content database. Please help us categorize this domain by submitting its category to us.
Since the domain itself appears to be using Google Apps (google mx entries) - it's most likely related to the domain itself. Since I don't have any emails from them, I have no way to tell if their billing system/support desk is using Google Apps as well - it could be sending using phpmail or another SMTP relay service.

^This is a start, and it would be a good idea to continue to work on & constantly monitor the reputation of your mail & domains.

That's about what I thought Melody.

The concept looks great and I think that Nick has a product he would definitely be able to get a good amount of clients if some points are straighten out.

I think about support, mainly over live chat and phone support and not email support.

Another concern I have is email delivery rate with the Amazon service. Never heard of any statistics as how good this is.

I assume that Insty.me is only a management platform on top of Amazon's cloud hosting service so I guess uptime would be the least worry here.

Amazon is definitely the main player in Cloud Hosting and does have the cash to keep that spot.

Let us see what Nick can tell us.

We do have people that are working with and monitoring the reputation of our domain names, IP's and the whole works. What's interesting about this one is when I went to click on the link here, there site was down, so there wasn't much I could see

Our email support is top notch at the moment, but I do plan on offering even more in the way of live chat and phone support very soon.

You're definitely right, Amazon is a HUGE player in the cloud business and what we are doing is providing hosting services on top of that huge infrastructure.

I have so many big plans for how to fully utilize this huge technology. It's exciting really.

The only way you end up on these lists is having emails marked as spam or a high amount of "unfavorable" emails that are being sent into honeypots - IE sending to a bought list with spamtrap email addresses on it. - this means you're either spamming, or sending to a crap list.

We do have people that are working with and monitoring the reputation of our domain names, IP's and the whole works. What's interesting about this one is when I went to click on the link here, there site was down, so there wasn't much I could see
You should fire them, because it's obvious that they're not being effective - it doesn't take days-weeks or however long the block has been there to become detected when your emails can't reach customers.

Most lists will remove the entries automatically after a few days. According to Melody, she emailed in 2 days before her first post - the 22nd, if my math is correct. That would make it 5 days until I posted the info on your domain being listed and thus most likely the reason why she was not getting your emails. If your "team" was already on top of it, the block would have been removed by now.

And for the record, "Barracuda Networks" isn't just "someones list" - you don't get listed there unless you're doing something that would get you listed in the first place. Doesn't mean that's you, but you could have spammer customers sending junk.

Yep, we definitely don't do that.

I'm sure it's just a misunderstanding on barracuda's part as we aren't on any other lists at the moment. I do appreciate the heads up. Kingfish,

I appreciate your comments, but those IP's are not Insty.me server IP's. Those are probably listed DNS entries for the backend Amazon servers that are responsible for DNS queries.

Thanks again for your help. If you are ever interested in becoming an Insty.me investigator, let me know

Hey, take it or leave it. I'm just telling you those listings are the root of your email problems. Those listed IP addresses are showing in queries for your domain, and WILL land the domain on multiple blacklists as I've showed you.

It's apparent that not dealing with it is already affecting at least one of your customers, how many more will it affect? Like I said, take it or leave it - it doesn't matter to me either way, but email problems will eventually cost you your customers.

Just an added note here: I originally thought the issue was that something had happened with my billing set-up (we all know recurring billing doesn't always work perfectly), I had just had a go-round with PayPal and another service, so thought that it had happened here as well.

And the reason that I thought that was because I had had NO emails from Insty.me since the original set-up emails August 14....so no invoice, no receipt, but that was also baffling because usually if a payment fails on the first try, a company sends you a notice, right?

According to Nick - there was no problem with the billing....so either they do not send out any invoices or statements for subsequent billings (although they did for the first one) or they were blocked by RoadRunner/TimeWarner since sometime between I started with them August 14, and the first re-bill of Sept 14.

Nick, not trying to give you a bad time - but these lists are important and do need to be monitored on a daily basis. It's not that difficult to find yourself on them (trust me - I am in the payment processing business and we deal with it all the time) but it does need to be done.

If you don't understand something is basic as PTR or DNSBL, you're just another amateur "host" that has no idea what he's doing. Controlling the fate of others is more than reselling services (Amazon) and throwing cPanel on it. If you don't understand those two, what else don't know know? I bet the server is full of security holes.

Nick, does Instyme offer the ability to place websites on different servers in different locations with different IP addresses? If so, I'm in.
This is completely stupid in 2013, and is nothing more than "SEO hosting". Even if the term isn't being used here, that's what it is. And it doesn't work anyway. It hasn't worked in a decade. All this does is create more complexities for a host, and for no good reason.

kpmedia, Have you ever worked with Amazon AWS before?? If so, you will see the things inside aren't what would be considered 'normal' for people who may have been working in the hosting space for a long time.

If you want, hit me up on chat sometime at nick.jolin (skype) and we can talk nitty gritty about any PTR, DNSBL, DNS, RDNS, AWS, SES, etc that you would like. I'm not the oldest cat in the kennel, but I've been around. I simply don't have the time to argue with folks here in the threads.

Lol, there's NOTHING different about how "Amazon" DNS works from any other DNS. DNS is DNS. The fact that they're blacklisted and your domain is blacklisted, is the cause of your problems.

As I mentioned, it appears the OP got unsolicited mail from you since they created a thread here asking questions - you most likely got yourself landed on the blacklist.

Like I said, as someone having been doing this for 10-12+ years, fix the problems in this thread and you won't have the problems you're having now.

You are jumping to a really odd conclusion. I came here because I got an email from an affiliate. I know several marketers are promoting a $1 trial. I am sure many people learned about this offer from affiliates that they had purchased from previously. I certainly did NOT get spam from Nick.

Personally I think you are being very negative and insulting and not helpful at all.

No I'm not - Barracuda get's listings based on unfavorable emails. If the company didn't send it directly, then they need to evaluate who is promoting their company - typically, it gets listed when mail originates from an IP associated with the domain..

Personally I think you are being very negative and insulting and not helpful at all.
Well, since no one had a clue about the listings until I posted them, I find that pretty helpful. The owner however, seems to be in denial and seems to think that two people who've been in this industry for 10+ years don't know anything.

Like I said, until these issues are fixed, the problems will continue and most likely get worse.

Ok, I have some time. I'm going to set this straight. You said "That's not how PTR works, this doesn't make sense??"

I never said that's how PTR works. I was talking about how Amazon sets up and uses their IP's and their steps to whitelisting them.

If you have ever worked with Amazon, you will know that they have elastic IP's that they allow you to provision to different instances inside the Amazon cloud system. Amazon's IP's are probably ALL listed on SORBS DUHL lists, which are blacklists enabled to catch large groups of IP's at a fell swoop, to discourage those who dynamically get IP's from using them to send spam.

As mentioned by the DUHL FAQ:

Therefore, the SORBS DUHL is a list of net blocks where the address space is assigned dynamically to users and hosts regardless of the actual method of connecting those users and hosts to the network.

This makes sense, as they are allowing their IP's to be dynamically used to the general public for essentially whatever they want to do with them.

Now, All Amazon IP's have their own PTR record when you provision them within AWS. Amazon owns the IP, therefore it has a PTR that looks like ns-15.awsdns-01.com as set by Amazon.

Amazon limits email sending from it's IP's as well. They don't want people firing up EC2 instances and shooting off tons of spam with them. That's why they have request forms in place, where you can 1. request the email limits lifted, 2. have them whitelist the IP at the appropriate places, 3. set the PTR and reverse DNS record for that IP. I showed you that web form earlier.

                  Ok, Let's keep going.

If you use one of the IP's that someone else 'grabbed' that are tied into Insty.me, you will see [205.251.192.15 is listed on 1 Black List.]

After looking into this IP, you will see that yes, it is on the DUHL listing as an IP that falls into a dynamic range and therefore blocked on the SORBS DUHL listing.

                  Network Tools: DNS,IP,Email

You won't see that IP listed in any other listing, but yes, it's on the DUHL.

Now, some may see that IP and assume "Insty.me must be blocked because that IP is on a blacklist". But no, that's not the case.

That IP (205.251.192.15) belongs to ns-15.awsdns-01.com which is what Amazon calls Route53. Route 53 is Amazon's multi-regional, multi-failsafe DNS service that does a GREAT job in RESOLVING NAMES. It's purpose is NOT to send, nor will it ever be to send email.

                  Insty.me's nameservers are set to:
                  205.251.192.15, 205.251.197.97, 205.251.199.239, and 205.251.194.213

which happens to be the 4 ip's that belong to Route53.

Now, since those IP's are listed in the DUHL, does that mean my domain has a problem??

                  No, absolutely not.

Now, for DNSBL, you can see here that our domain is not in Spamhaus's DNSBL:
The Spamhaus Project - Blocklist Removal Center Results

You can also see that the IP address that insty.me resolves to isn't on any block lists either:

On top of ALL of this, like I said before, our Transactional and mailer emails are sent through Amazon's SES service, which has their own IP's that aren't tied to Insty.me's domains. It's similar to what email sending services like Aweber and Get Response do. (where the email header will say sent by Amazonses).

So, by the looks of it, it doesn't look like the domain name "insty.me" is listed, and it could just very well be that:

                  Overall:

Look, I appreciate the comments and the fact that most Warriors are just trying to look our for each other. I get that. I do the same thing. The only thing I don't like is being accused of trying to swindle people, or that I'm working hard to 'cover up' anything that might be wrong. This is not the case at all.

I know I'm not perfect, I mean Heck, even the HUGE hosting companies aren't perfect

If there is ANYTHING that could lead to sub-par performance of a company that I care DEEPLY for and have worked very hard for, I definitely want to know more about it, but at the same time, if I say that I have looked into it, then please believe me, that I have looked into it, I have had our team look into it as well.

There is no reason to try to drum up negativity or try to do damage to anyone in all this.

Again, thanks so much, and I hope everyone has a wonderful night.

Just because things don't make sense to you, doesn't mean that they are wrong.

                    Network Tools: DNS,IP,Email

On top of ALL of this, like I said before, our Transactional and mailer emails are sent through Amazon's SES service, which has their own IP's that aren't tied to Insty.me's domains. It's similar to what email sending services like Aweber and Get Response do. (where the email header will say sent by Amazonses).

So, you're assuming that because someone pulled up an IP that they didn't know anything about, said that it was listed on a 'list', and said they 'pulled it up with a query about insty.me', you naturally assume that I and the Insty.me team have no idea what we are doing, or what certain tech terms mean.

So, by the looks of it, it doesn't look like the domain name "insty.me" is listed, and it could just very well be that:

I hope this helps and puts you at ease a bit.

                    Thanks
                    Nick
You still don't get it. YOUR DOMAIN is seen as associated with blacklisted IP's. It doesn't matter if they are sending mail, were ever sending mail, will ever send mail or are even hosting anything. DNS in relation to a domain WILL cause email problems if said DNS serving IP's are on a blacklist.

Aside from SES, your domain itself is blacklisted as well.......remember.

Everything you posted above is nothing more that copy/paste from multiple websites. Instead of trying to prove 2 people wrong who have been doing this for a living for a very long time, you might want to work on getting those listings resolved.

Cox, Comcast, Time Warner, TW Telecom etc blackhole emails that come from known sources & listed IP's/domains.

Like I said, it doesn't matter to me what you do - I've been attempting to explain to you what the problem is, but you don't want to hear it. PTR records don't have anything what so ever to do with any of this, neither does RDNS.

Mail is sent to Road Runner tagged with an originating domain of "insty.me" - RR compares that domain, it's originating IP as well as its NS, RDNS & where said entries were obtained from (IE AWS DNS) against multiple lists, internal & external. It then rejects the email because the IP's associated with it are reported as blacklisted. The same goes for the domain. The domain itself probably got the emails blocked first as pretty much every email company known to existence runs against Barracuda.

I'm not trying to prove anyone wrong, I'm explaining why those IP's are listed on a list.

So you mean to tell me that EVERYONE who uses Route53's DNS service will have their mail blacklisted?? Do you have any documentation that says spam houses will query the nameserver IP's of the domain and check them against a blacklist as well?

In any case, I do have communication out to Amazon about this as well, seeing what they have to say about their Route 53 ip's.

While I appreciate your help, it's not the root of our email problems. Let me explain why.

The IP's you listed here may be for the backend severs that handle MANY things inside the Amazon cloud systems. Things like DNS requests, etc.

Amazon won't allow email use sending from their IP's by default. This is why some of their IP's are listed in certain 'listings' because this is totally by design. When you associate a new IP within the cloud system at Amazon, you must request that the email sending limits be lifted, and during this process, Amazon whitelists that IP and the reverse DNS entry with all the major email listing agencies.

That is why just 'looking up' these IP addresses doesn't always tell the story.

On top of that, our mailer systems and transactional email is handled by Amazon SES, which uses it's own set of IP's that are not tied into the server instances that we use to host the accounts.

If I can be totally frank here, the reason why Melody was having problems receiving our mail actually has nothing to do with our systems.

The fact is that when she signed up with Insty, she used an email address from the domain: cinci.rr.com which doesn't resolve anywhere at the moment.

I'm not sure if there is a temporary problem with that domain, but if you do a domain lookup for the name cinci.rr.com, a blank DNS record will show. This could be why our email wouldn't send as it's failing domain lookup. While it could be possible that email is being delivered there, just the fact that a blank IP address is returned when a domain lookup happens could be reason enough for mail to fail to her mailbox.

Now, I know this is rather 'techy' talk, and for those interested, I shot a quick screenshot of this: 2013-10-27_2306 - Insty.me's library

Normally I don't share this information with the world as it should be a matter between the hosting company and the customer, but since a lot of people seem concerned about making sure our email gets delivered, I just wanted to set the record straight here.

Thanks to all that have commented in this thread. Again, I appreciate the kind words and the many Insty.me customers that we have been able to work with thus far.

I'm TOTALLY excited about where things are headed, and am super grateful for all the kind words and support of those that have given it.

Thanks again, and have a great night!
It has everything to do with your systems - for the record, rr is Road Runner email, it does resolve. It's not a "website" and won't respond to DNS queries.

Also, regarding the DNS & the blacklists, this post right here shows your knowledge of hosting, or the "lack" of.

It is the root of your problems. Sorry, but you're in denial on this & trying to save face is just going to end up furthering the email problems since you don't believe it. Every list I've shown you was queried using your DOMAIN NAME, not IP's. Those IP's are being reported back during queries, which have a relationship with your domain. Domains with relationships to blacklists, get mail blocked.

Stop fooling your customers here and fix the problem.

I'm not here to argue with you Kingfish, but really, the IP's you listed are resolving IP's for Route53 in Amazon's infrastructure. Route 53 handles DNS requests ONLY. I can logically see why this IP range within Amazon would be on the SORBS DUHL since it is never designed for and will never send email from any of those IP's.

/sigh... it doesn't matter that they don't send mail. Your domain is listed on Barracuda & the DNS it uses is associated with blacklisted IP's. THAT is the reason why your customers aren't getting email.

I don't think you understand how DNS, blacklists or queries work.

Sorry, Nick, but Kingfish is right on this one - It is the email service from Road Runner (that is what the 'rr' refers to, and cinci is the location - that is the way they have their email system set up) and Road Runner is the ISP service of Time Warner Cable.
It is not my website, and there is no DNS for it to resolve to.

I have used that email address as my main personal email address for almost 5 years ....and probably get 100 or more emails a day there.

I had to argue with an ISP yesterday. Get this ... he insisted that 192.0.0.0/8 was a local range. What an f-ing moron. Additionally, he swore that they NEVER blocked ranges. Also BS. When I asked him what they do to mitigate DDoS, given how they supposedly never block anything ... yep, you guessed it, "what's that". That guy claimed to be an engineer!!! Some people don't know their @ss from their elbow when it comes to how the internet works.

You can spot these people quite easily.

I have myself on DMARC and FBL, as well as some RBL monitors, and monitor this stuff regularly. Pathetic when hosts fail to do this. Then again, that's the difference between a host (professional) and a "host" (amateur, newbie).

As far as this spam issue goes, it's blatantly obvious what happened.

Large companies have Barracuda hardware, and it's far better than the RBL. We had one of these where I use to work. It's was VERY effective, and works as you say. About $10k each!

FYI, I started doing this stuff in the 1990s.

I don't get why this is hard.

    - Host has IPs used for servers
    - Somebody uses servers to send crap. Strike 1.
    - More of same crap send from other IPs. Strike 2.
    - Some record is missing or not correct. This can range from SPF to PTR. Strike 3.

That's just one way it can go down.
The domain is marked as crap. The IPs may be marked as crap too.

    Root problems:
    - domain records suck
    - spammer needs to be kicked off servers
    - not monitoring your servers

No offense, but if you're a host, I shouldn't have to tell any of this to you. You should know.

Most "affiliate marketers" are just spammers. That's what caused all of this.

That's what caused all of this.

kpmedia, Yea, in a normal situation, this would be true, but it's not how we operate at Insty.me

The autoresponders of our clients require them to use their own SES account to send as well, so NO affiliate email is ever sent from our server instances.

Their sending reputation is totally up to them. If they send spam, they are disabled and banned by SES, plain and simple. They don't have a negative affect on the Insty domains.

Also, We keep a CLOSE eye on any email being sent from the individual servers and have limits in place to keep them from sending spam, or using the server to send mass emails.

I can understand how people can be confused by things here, and why this would seem so simple to others that are looking in, but it's just not the case.

The only thing I've seen in this whole thread is a supposed listing from barracuda that I can't seem to verify.

The reason you can't verify Barracuda anymore is because its been removed. It wasn't removed yesterday and hence why your emails were being blocked.

Had I not said anything to you, you'd still have no clue, just like you didn't when I pointed it out to you in the first place.

However, multiple IP's tied to your domain are still listed on sorbs, so chances are you'll continue to have blocked mail.

As for documentation - this is common sense knowledge on how DNS & listing works...as mentioned, you should know this already. It's not speculation, it's how it works.

You can pull the "supposed listing from barracuda" card all you want however, your customers that aren't getting emails have already sealed the fate on that one... It seems you've requested removal for it already.

No one is "confused" on how any of this works...

EDIT: You should also do a little research on what a DNSBL is and how it can affect your domain. That just may point you in the right direction.

    • I have looked into insty.me hosting, and from my research it looks refreshingly good - it may not be perfect - but what is. I think I will be transferring my sites there.

I have read this thread and all the rhetoric it contains has been based on one negative instance - Melody's communication problem.

This forum is for knowledge, support and constructive criticism. So comments couched in a belligerent way will always be less effective that those stated in a more rational tone.

If we are in a position to provide valuable input for something, then what we write should be stated without attitude.

This is a review thread and my guess on why "everything has stopped" is because no one has come on here to complain (or offer praise) on Nick's hosting for a while.

He has a $1 trial....maybe you should run a test site with him to see how it goes.

            Cheers

Well, it is now almost a year since the last post...so just wanted to let the warriors know that I just signed up with insty.me after reading all of the comments above and found their tech support to be excellent. So far they have addressed my issues/concerns. No one knows for sure how long anything is going to be around so best to take advantage!

Well I'll be happy to offer up my 2-cents worth

I posted in this thread a little more than a year ago about my very positive experiences with Insty.me and I still feel that way today.

Case in point, I accidentally deleted all my domains 2 days ago (totally my fault) and within about an hour of reporting my blunder, the support had every site back online from a backup that they had on file from a few days prior.

So they are still getting 2 thumbs up from me.
