Post Your Favorite Free URL shortener service

Hey Folks...

I use url shortener a lot for affiliate promo and now for facebook/twitter post.

Now I want to compare the free service out there.

Post your favorite service here and tell us why you like it...

Okay I'll go first

my recent favorite service is [Self Promotional Link Removed By Moderator]

because:
1. It's the shortest url (I think) with only 8 characters including the domain extension
2. It's simple and easy plus it has the sharing bar option where the visitor can bookmark
our link in some popular social bookmarking sites.

now your turn...

Thanks,
Heri

That's the only one I use.

Although, I'm starting to get annoyed with the personalized links. All the good ones are taken.

I like a.gd for mine. It was created by fellow Warrior and buddy Rob O'Callaghan. It makes a great short URL, and you get your stats so you can see the clickthroughs on a campaign.

It is so easy to create your own service for your own personal
    use.

chances are, you can stick your initials in front of url.com to
create your own. Example, if your initial are 'dum', then you
could use 'dumurl.com'. If the .com has gone, then there might
be other extensions that you can replace it with. The advantage
of using your initials is that you're branding your urls with your
name/brand. There are lots of php scripts that will manage the
    system for you.

I used to like offto.net but the site is down once in a while - at least often enough for me to notice a couple of times.

Just last week I discovered scrnch.me and love the clean interface.
They have a free premium trial membership which offers lots of advanced (tracking) features.
Since it's a fairly new site I cannot comment on the reliability yet. The 10 days I am using it worked flawless.

      Christoph,

If it helps, I beta tested it when it first went up and know the developer personally. Scrnch Me came about from seeing what the other services didn't offer and making it as full featured as possible. It has worked flawless since then.

The premium service is definitely the way to go.

      Thanks,

      John

I've never trusted third party shorteners. One day they could just redirect your
traffic or start charging and it would be a pain to change all of the links so I
    just host my own.

There are plenty of scripts out there to do it.

Plus, I like giving the links to my own site instead of
    someone elses

I don't know why, but recently I have been using StumbleUpon's URL shortener Su.pr - Drive More Traffic with Your Short URLs!. What I like about it is that it shows you not only the clicks but if you are into social media, you might be interested in knowing the number of visits from stumbleupon and people who have stumbled it. Su.Pr offers them all at one place, your dashboard. It gives you stats for past 30 days.

I think you can sign in if you have a stumbleupon account (most people have). If not, you will have to request for a beta invite.

Are you using Su.Pr? If so, click on the 'sign in' link in their page. It will automatically take you to Su.Pr dashboard. Or make sure you are first signed into StumbleUpon.

Weird. I have tried Su.Pr in 3 browsers and it takes me to Su.Pr dashboard. Try in a different browser. It is working for me and you can see that my recent tweet is from Su.Pr.

EDIT: Looks like they are still in beta and everyone needs invite to join. I don't remember myself using one. Or maybe I did. But Su.Pr will be soon available. You can try requesting for a beta invite from their homepage.

Hands down FREE URL Shrinking because it allows you to create a 301 or 302 redirect. And from what I can tell its up forever.

Edit: tu.nu is the domain name.

    I like easyURL.net because it's ... well, easy.
I would like to host on my own domains though, for one thing, the shorteners look tacky. And I'd rather have the traffic and links going to my own brands.

Can anyone recommend a good script for this?

    I prefer BudUrl or Bit.ly

Bit.ly works very good with twitterfeed and twollow.
A must have, if you promote your business on Twitter.

    Code:

Just create a php page, name it, put that code in it, and link to it.
