Best exit offer program? (help)

I have resisted installing exit popup programs (which ask the user if they are sure they wish to leave etc) for quite some time.

The reason being that personally I hate having these programs jump up in my face and make me click buttons when I visit a website.

After fighting this personal battle for some time, I have decided to give in. Mostly due to the overwhelming research that by displaying a special offer on an exit pop up (or whatever you want to call it) conversions can dramatically be increased.

Does anyone here have recommendations of the best product to use for this?

I want it to be simple. Something I can easily change the message and hopefully offer an exit offer to the visitor. I dont want excessive clicking or clunky old scripts. Something clean, simple and well developed would be good.
(Ideally not something which actually launches a pop up window, but some sort of window that is show above the pages contents)

Does anyone have any recommendations for me?

Thanks alot in advance everyone!

Well, you have to remember that you are not your customer and after looking into the research which shows that if you offer a powerful discount/OTO as a leaving "bribe" to gain that visitors attention, then it can have a great effect on conversion rates.

If thats the case, (And intellectually I can see how it would most certainly fuel more conversions) then I need to bury my own feelings about them and at least try to put them to use and record my own findings.

Thanks for the suggestion, ill check it out. Anyone else?

Andrew, thats exactly why I have been so slow on the uptake of using these. I completely agree.

My thoughts were to either immediately offer a "Wait, 30% off if you buy right now" message to see how many people that "saves" or more likely, a "free info" msg which I would use to provide info that is valuable to the visitor but also subtly reinforces why the original product is a good product and cross sells back to it again. (basically priming the visitor to go back and take a second look)

Obviously the second option is better in terms of visitor perception (offered something for free vs feeling they are being offered the hard sell) but also, there are a percentage of visitors who I figure will go and buy and by offering the first option, I am lowering the sales I would of received because once they see it they will obviously buy at a lower rate, when I could of converted them at a higher one.

I will give it a go once I have decided what to use and see how I get on. I suppose the best approach is, proceed with caution.

Josh, I use Exit Splash instead. It is not one of those pop up agents, but instead it takes you to a different page where you can give them a special offer, give them something free, or even send them to a different product.

It is a one time fee, and it also comes with a viral twitter box generator, and a suggestion box generator. It is really easy to use, and I have been quite happy with it. (It is also used a lot less than the "virtual agents", so it is not as annoying to see). I like it a lot better personally. But the guy who created it also created "Virtual Smart Agent" which I have heard is the best for the virtual agents. (Dave Guindon's stuff is great quality)

      Hope that helps
