Media Temple Alternative Hosting

Hi everyone,

I wanted to know if anyone knows a good alternative to Media Temple. I have been with several hosting providers and it all hasn't been all that great.
1&1 - Too Slow
Blue Host - Too Slow (good support though)
Host Gator - Was awesome at the start, but ever since they upgraded their servers, I've had nothing but downtime (good support though)

And now I'm with Media Temple. At the beginning everything was great, but as of late, my site keeps going down for few mins during peak hours.

Any suggestions as to a good hosting provider (speed is important) with great support?

Since most of my sites are WordPress based, so I looked into Web Synthesis hosting, but the pricing is just ridiculous! Any have experience with Web Synthesis or WP Engine?

Thanks.

Are you looking to move a bunch of WP sites or just for any new ones? You are likely on cPanel, correct? Using dedicated IP's for any/all? How many sites? All WP? Any other specifics will help with answer.

I may have just the right solution for you.

Except for one domain, everything is based on WP, and Media Temple doesn't exactly use a cPanel (but it's somewhat similar). I have about 8 sites and no they don't have a dedicated IP.

Make sure you talk with the new company you choose first - not everyone will migrate sites out of MT as they use their own custom panel. Everything has to be moved manually.

I really didn't think that the custom panel would play an issue when it comes to transferring over the content. I thought I could just do it myself...Guess I have to look into it a bit deeper.

Well, it has to be done manually. Not like a cPanel backup, where the backup can be restored fairly quickly. All email accounts have to be manually created, and custom DNS entries have to be recreated, forwarders etc. The mailboxes need to be created first, then import the messages via FTP into the correct directories.

I can't remember if MT allows direct access to the messages or not - some control panels like vDeck (EIG uses this) doesn't allow this and this adds another step for us hosts to move sites. Connect Outlook & download the messages to a PST file.

It's not hard, but there's a tedious amount of work to do it correctly & complete.

My email is actually being hosted by Google Apps right now, so I don't think that would cause too much of an issue.

I also looked into managed WP hosting...anyone have experience with Flywheel or WP Engine?
