    If anyone must go free to start, then I like:

    Free Web Hosting with PHP, MySQL and cPanel, No Ads

    The drawback with them is that you get logged out of a free account quite frquently and if you are logged out, not only do you lose your unsaved information, but you can lose the open file that you are, or were working on! Even if it's your index. file.

    If you take regular back ups to your own hard drive(s) however, then they are quite a good service (and no third party ads or promotions) with a responsive help desk. They offer paid upgrades too.

    I am not by the way, associated with 000webhost in any way.

    This post is just an opinion based on my experiences.

      I read on another thread that Hostmonster and Hostgator are also great free hosting. Any comment experience with them will be appreciated. Thanks!

    wrong place to save money.

    I have NO good experience with free hosts - even if they're free and dont have banners/ads...there might be other restrictions like filesize limits.

    The free hosts are also often overcrowded with hackers/script kiddies - so they often have outages.

    There is NO savings or benefits because you can get GOOD (and i mean. really good!) hosting which is only $2 or $3 month. No limits whatsoever. Dont save a few bucks just to run into more problems later.
