What Kind of Protection Do YOU Use... Virus, That Is!

I'm currently using AVG Free because it came on very high recommendation from the guy who was my computer expert repair guy a couple of years ago.

I've used both McAffee and Norton in the past, but it's always caused problems.

Sooo what do you use and why? What do you recommend and why?

THANKS!

David

MBAM gets rid of 99% of the malware, i highly recommend it - but be sure to update daily (better: twice a day)

Hey Chris, I like your avatar!

Does MBAM do Virus Protection in addition to Malware? - THANKS!

I also use AVG Free because it doesn't clutter the computer and it runs smoothly, usually in the background and I don't notice it. Plus it's one of the best virus scan software out there!

AVG here as well, reason because it don't seem to cause problems like norton and mcaffee do, those 2 seem to cause more problems than a virus would lol

I mainly use a mac but my windows laptop has no virus protection on it. I ran it every day for over a year without virus protection and without any problems.

The top rated anti virus programs are Node32 and Avira, with Node32 having a slight edge in heuristic analysis. I use Avira premium with Comodo firewall and NoScript. I also have a couple of rootkit removers and Malwarebytes just in case. Belt and suspenders.

Could you please pay me $1 for every problem that a good virus removal software finds on your computer right now, plus $1 for every problem that malware removal software reports? I'll bet I'll be making more than $100 right here and now.

      I use a Mac.

I've used many different anti-virus on Windows, problem is, the virus writers are smarter than the av companies.

Aargh, yet another Mac snob. Windows users unite! Chase this elitist boob away!!!

Just kidding. I use Mac exclusively in my studio. Far superior to Windows for certain applications.

I use Kapersky, Zone Alarm, Spy Bot, Norton and Hijack This for troubleshooting.
I definitely do weekly ghost imaging of all my machines. That way, should there be something I can't handle, I can just go back and get the last good image and be up and running in 30 minutes instead of spending 2 business days trying to chase down a nasty.

In a recent independant research study, Avira was number one in detecting viruses passively. What this means is that it picked up viruses without doing a manual scan. You would be surprised to see where Norton and McAfee ranked in this study. The study was just done last month.

Malwarebytes - great program but NOT and antivirus. Here is an official quote from Malwarebytes spokeperson:
"The majority of the research that goes into MBAM (malwarebytes) is based on what the Antivirus vendors are failing on most frequently. This allows us to keep a smaller database and prevents conflicts with antivirus software. The only thing MBAM does not do is to unpatch system files as this is the job of your dedicated antivirus software. MBAM is designed to work along side your existing antivirus software, not conflict or compete with it."

Use it WITH an antivirus, not AS an antivirus.

Check out my link below for lots of good info. the review I spoke of is in the middle of my download page.

I have been using Nos32 for over 2 years now and like it because it doesn't overload my system. I noticed that when testing some of the other anti-virus programs, I can't always run two at the same without my computer slowing down or acting strange, even tho I have internet cable for speed. So when testing new anti-virus programs, one program has to be disabled.

I'm using kaspersky internet security 8.0 on my pc right now. Having an all in one solution is what I prefer.

Mac does have a virus problem but because of its low market share hardly anyone bother to create virus for mac.
In fact mac is often the first OS to get hacked at black hat conferences. (they get hacked in like 5 minutes)

On the Windows front it is not the normal virus from the internet we need to fear, but the pendrive virus which wrecks havoc on computers these days. Vista is pretty much safe but for the pendrive virus problem.

Since AVG8 came out it has been my personal choice. I don't like McAffe and Norton because they're bloated and causes the system to run too slow. Plus AVG is free.

Hey AVG users, are you using the free version, or have you bought the paid version?

If you have the paid version, do you find it's really worth the extras you get?

I use AVAST, free version on my home, paid on the office systems. Full scan @ least once/week.
They saved us BIG TIME when gumblar was making the rounds(and it still is, from what I understand). We avoided the re-directors numerous times.
I know a couple of people who weren't so fortunate.
    I run spybot~ regularly~, malwarebytes~occasionally~ & use zonealarm firewall, too.
