The best Web Hosting Service?

Hi all!

I want to know who is your favourite web host's, and who should I rather give a miss! I saw excellent packages by Host Gator, but unfortunately I use Windows and they only support Linux. I can't switch to Linux now, I need to get my site up and running! Please give me some advice!

Thanks
To your success

What OS (operating system) you have on your own machine and what software a host is using have NOTHNG to do with each other!
You can continue to use Windows on your machine and go for a *nix hosting. Do NOT go ever for a Windows hosting, it's a nightmare, unless you want to use some M$ specific script on your website.

Hi Cruiser, just to say hello. I just (june 09) decided to go this way but I'm battling my b off to get something going.. because I know nothing. I signed up with HostMonster to get going with Affiliano. I'v got an address but need the website from Affiliano. I see priously this Affiliano worked with Host Gator. Could enven be the same companies.
    Kind Regards

For a medium to large sites using streaming media etc:

My tech guys did a bit of research on where to host our relaunch and they weren't impressed with the support at Host Gator. It was their opinion that if the site fell over for whatever reason there could be problems getting it back up because the support weren't properly equipped to deal with any curve ball problems and it was quite hard to get hold of a good engineer.
Rackspace (Mosso) on the other hand hit all the right buttons, if you call their support you get a qualified engineer on the line in under 1 minute. Expensive for small sites but worth the investment for something larger that is in any way complicated (check out the 'cloud sites' package - $100pm, burstable & scalable).

    Hey

You don't have to switch to Linux to use hostgator. Just use it, its very user friendly. I use windows OS (it has nothing to do with the 'linux' that hostgator says!). Yes, I do recommend hostgator: Ive used it for half a year, they are reliable.

I have all of my sites in a hostgator baby croc account, and I love it.
They have EXCELLENT support, and they are fairly cheap.

AND I would also recommend buying your domains at namecheap.com, and then transfer them to hostgator. Now THAT'S a plan

I love hostgator and have used them for a while now - i would avoid fasthosts though as they always go down and charge way too much and have the worst customer service on the net!

    Kind regards

HostGator is what I use. Works great if you are just starting out.

Have used their customer support a couple of times, and it's excellent!

What you saw on their page about Linux and Windows is what they are offering on the servers, and has nothing to do with your laptop/desktop.

If you go for them, remember to fill in a coupon to save some money.

Coupon for 1 month free trial:hgc25

Also, they currently have a summer sales with 20% off initial order which is good value if you order for one or several years.

For my affiliate business, hostgator is great. But for more complex project I use downtownhost, their supports are great.

I'm currently using BlueHost, BUT in the future I do plan to sign up for HostGator too because I have multiple websites in various niches and even in the same niche, so for SEO purposes I plan to host same-niche sites on different servers... and eventually will liklely get a 3rd and 4th service as needed.

      Hope that helps!

      Best,
      David

I just recently switched to Host Gator, and they have been great. The pricing is very affordable, and they're support is outstanding. I have called support on several occasions, including the 4th of July Holiday, and I must say that everyone I have talked to have been very professional and very helpful. The site uptime is fantastic as well.

I agree with Robert that if you're going to go with Host Gator that you should use a coupon code to get a good discount.

I know some people that use Blue Host, and they love them. It all depends on what you're looking for and the features you need. As far as the OS, what you run on your computer has nothing to do with what OS the hosting company uses. In fact, I recommend you get a host with Linux.

Hostgator for shared hosting. If you need dedicated IP and SSL check out their Business Plan.
Namecheap for domain names. Free WHOIS protection AND Free SSL.

Any recommends for best dedicated server hosting???

you can look into host gator, blue host, chime host etc for web hosting. Most providers offer same level of service and price. Don't go with Godaddy for domain registration. Some folks had issue with them when it comes to transferring domains.

Yup, i agree Hostgator is the best. Have been hosting with them for many years and no problem so far. My next recommendation would be Bluehost and Hostmonster. They are nearly as good also.

As several people have already pointed out Hostgator is probably your
best option. I have been using them for some time after doing a lot of
research on hosting options. There prices and support are great and
it is good to see other Warriors recommending them. This confirms
that I made the right choice.

I have used several web hosting companies and have had problems with all of them except webhostingpad. Webhostingpad has everything to offer from your standard unlimited space, databases to including google adwords credits. Most of the web hosting companies i've used in the past had bad customer service. Webhostingpad walked me thru a tech issue I had within 15 mins after telling them about the problem. This web hosting company start at $1.99 a month. You can beat this company as far as web hosting.

    Here are my recommentations:
HostGator is good for shared hosting
Linode is good for Ruby on Rails
1GreenHost is good for cheap domain names ($7.49 /yr for .com)
GoDaddy is good for dedicated servers (seriously cheap bandwidth) - I do 15 TB (yes 15 terrabytes) a month on 3 dedicated servers there for my podcasts.
