When it comes to designing, most often you will hear all about Adobe Photoshop and how powerful it is, there's no question about that. However, it's not exactly the cheapest option. Some may not afford it especially if you're just starting out, say you've just set up your own service and don't have enough funds to cover that expense. So, here's what we have for you, 10 wonderful alternatives for Photoshop. Some are free, others are paid but they're not as expensive as Photoshop.

Here are 10 Alternatives to Photoshop

We all have our preference for our tools of trade I've used a couple of those tools on the list. When I need quick edits or images I go for Pixlr and Canva but anything that's leaning more on graphic design then GIMP is really the best. Sumo and Krita I've used mainly for digital art. They're really good apps and sufficient depending on what your needs are for the task at hand.

  • This is a very informative post. Thank you for sharing. Most of us with our own blogs and websites do at least some image editing.

    • Yeah, it's pretty helpful if you're on a low budget still. Which software do you think would be the best fit for you?

  • Thank you for the alternatives. It is going to be of great help to me.
I personally like Gimp the best.

    • GIMP offers the most. Especially when you compare it to Photoshop.

  • Good list. I'd add Stencil too. It's great for creating posts for social media networks. Similar to Canva but it has way more features.

    • Ahhh. I haven't seen stencil. Does it offer as much as Canva does? Like in terms of it being a free app or having free templates and photos?
  • Thank You to provide such a useful information. Now I will start my photoshop easily from the ground level. Thank you again. This is really very useful for me.
  • GIMP is a very powerful program, I have used it for years. One program that I did not see in your list is Inkscape. I have used it quite a bit this year. It produces svg files, which have many benefits over png or jpg files. I especially like the fact that you can interact with svg files programmatically to manipulate the images in amazing ways. Also, svg files do not lose clarity when scaled. I recommend Inkscape to anyone looking to develop high-quality images.

    • It is. It's really the best alternative, imo, to Photoshop.

Oooh wow. I'll check that tool out. Thanks for adding that!

  • I like GIMP and INKSCAPE they come with ubuntu studio and work well have built in tutorials great stuff.
  • GImp is great you should ensure people learn about brushes and setting up hotkeys you can then do cool stuff like draw or rotate the mouse imagine using wiimote to rotate when you draw or mousewheel to make the brush bigger or smaller while drawing to get a fat to sharp point line etc or drawing with different color and then deleting that color to add sharp jagged edges to your art.

Also toy around with gimp filters and use youtube to see ideas like spiral art or text along a spline path. Lastly with openOffice you can make PDF files easy even forms.
