Restaurant chain Jack in the Box is running a gamified ad on Spotify which gives listeners a chance to win free tacos with any purchase. The interactive ad is a take on the classic Two Truths and a Lie and can be found here, if you want a chance at free tacos.

Gamified content is arguably better at grabbing customer attention than traditional advertising. This is because gamified content is of course interactive, entertaining, and helps create a stronger emotional brand with your audience. This also helps any marketer identify which audience is loyal to the advertiser, and this case which Spotify listeners are most likely loyal to Jack in the Box.

With Spotify as medium, advertisers can also target users who use the free, ad-supported tier which grew 31% to 163 million MAU (monthly active users) in Q2 this year.

Chime in.

  • What a great idea!

As a free Spotify user myself (hehe), I never really minded listening to their ads, they're fun to listen to.

But gamified ads? I'm excited! Although I might not receive this particular ad because I'm in the Philippines, the thought of participating for a free taco is, honestly, a brilliant brilliant idea!

I'm trying to think of gamified ads here in the Philippines, but I just can't think of anything.

What other gamified ads do you know?

  • I've seen mobile games try something similar with playable ads. But this looks better because you get actual rewards for playing.

I just hope they don't make the same mistakes that mobile game advertisers are doing. Mistakes like:
    1. faking the game. Instead of having interactive elements, it just directs you to the site.
    3. making it difficult or impossible to opt out.

These mistakes irritated me so much I left bad reviews on the app.
