Any Northwest UK people? Would be great to actually meet people who have the same interests, and could talk ideas through etc. Say hi if anyone about!

  • I have been in webdevelopment for a good few years now, and make some of my living doing it.

    I am actually thinking of cloning a website like Ebay and or Amazon with the same functionalities but with much better rates, and heavily promote it in the UK.

    There would obviously be some costs involved for everyone who would take this seriously and as a business opportunity but if we can make this a success then this may just be a good little investment for big rewards.

    If interested than we can have a meeting and create a plan of action.

    I'd like to hear your opinions on this?

    • I think the biggest hurdle you'd face is that people use Ebay and Amazon to sell things because that's where the buyers are.

      A company I'm involved with tried something similar with the property market. Estate agents are spending hundreds of pounds per month to be listed on the big portals so we developed a property site with free listings - in the hope that they could make them money by promoting their other services.

      But people would rather spend money to be listed on a site with potential customers than spend time being listed on a site nobody uses.

      Big Promotion = Big Cost and if you're prices are low or free then it's hard to recoup that investment.

      Anyway if this group meet up happens maybe we could chat further over a pint?
