Is Offering My Ebook As A Free WSO A Good Idea?

So Warriors download and read your ebook, they are subscribed to your list . . . then what?

How are you going to make money off this model?

And what is going to compel Warriors to take you up on this offer in the first place? It's so easy to set up a web site (WP for example) these days, I'm not sure there are a lot of people out there that have this burning desire.

I think you need a better reason along with a more targeted audience to ask for an email subscription.

The key to your ebook, and what will really sell it here (and probably everywhere else too) is how to set up SUCCESSFUL wordpress sites. I think I remember you mentioning having done this previously?

If so, that's what will sell your ebook.

As I'm sure you've noticed the backlash around here of people crying how no one cares about how to set up wordpress. But if you shared something like that with me when I was brand new.. you would have been my hero. Everyone else likes to act like it's a step you should already know and you're a complete idiot if you don't know how to set up a simple website, but that's what every brand new person looking to make money online needs to learn FIRST before anything else.

So your target market is actually one of the best there is, because those people spend more than people who think they already know about marketing and just want to see what's inside your funnel!

People as a whole don't care about 'setting up wordpress sites' they care about successful sites that get traffic and make money. That's why almost every product you see around here is about the dollar and many don't even mention what's inside the product at all. Many will have the same information or could even be less than what's in your ebook!

but they sell that information based on SUCCESSFUL sites or SITES THAT MAKE MONEY and then they go into... find a niche, create some content and do seo. Much like it sounds like you've got inside your report.

It's a tough lesson, but hopefully you're catching what I'm saying here, because there are very few people who will buy a product that's about what they need. It's just not a motivational factor, hardly ever.

People want to know what's in it for them, how can it fulfill their goals, dreams and aspirations... THAT'S what they buy... not what they need.

I've spent months developing products before that were drop dead amazing only to see them fall flat on their face because I was trying to help people in a way they NEEDED help and not focusing on selling them what they wanted.

Lesson learned, people don't care about valuable products. They care about what's in it for them.

Harsh truth, but a reality in marketing. If your ebook was 'how I make $100 per day with simple wordpress sites' people would be begging for review copies via pm. But since it's 'how to set up successful wordpress sites and do real work' it's something people are avoiding.

Anyway... I've already gone too far for an open forum so I'll sit back now.

That's one of the first things I teach people. Pinpoint your niche's biggest desires, goals and dreams and then help them achieve those goals by providing better information then anyone else.

If you scroll through this forum, you'll see people asking the same questions over and over. So that goes to show you, even though there are people who already know how to set up a site, there is tons who don't, and that will always be necessary to know like Victor has stated.

If you make a great headline, and you catch them with the funnel in your WSO, they will definitely opt-in and now you have a valuable lead. Someone who you know is a complete beginner that you can market tons of how to make money online products. How to get traffic, how to do certain types of marketing. It's better to go for the lead, and then sell them something in the back end, than to go for the sale right up front.

Especially since it has to do with something you can easily go to Youtube and find all the info you need there. But if its free on your thread, they'll be happy to opt-in.

Ben, I think that's a great idea because many people struggle wit the technical side of building a website.

But I would add a "money" element to it because much of the WSO section is driven by the promise of a monetary reward.

Make the warriors subscribe to your website and then you can promote relevant offers to them. Simple!

Sell those products and you can make money.

If I were you, I prefer to turn the ebook into a kindle ebook, so you have another source of traffic. Unless you work with prominent IMers, or are very experienced, it's hard to make money or build your list with rehashed content or a free ebook with nothing special. Try to find your USP and market on this.
