Should I give it away, or sell it for $1?

What do you think of this idea? Instead of giving away something super valuable to build a list, I charge them $1. Wouldn't this be a higher quality list since at least I know they have a credit card? Would this serve me better in the long run? Or will giving it away for free serve me better?

I know I have to test it, but was wondering what your opinions were on this. Thanks.

EDIT: My main goal is to attract paying customers. Will giving it away for free attract me more paying customers?

I'll charge $1 to build a list of buyers and not just freebie seekers...

For lead I would suggest to give it free, but you could sell something after they optin for $1. Its called Tripwire. Its known idea which popular used by big name like Ryan Diess.

I would give the info away for free to get the lead and send them to a related CPA offer or $1 trial offer from Clickbank with recurring payments after opt-in... razorz18 made a similar respond .... It simply works and you make money building your list...that´s cool...

If you could find a CPA offer in your niche to send them to after opt-in i would go for that.

If your giving free products, I would suggest you go for double optin instead single... Then no sale after optin. If your using single optin, then use the tripwire.

Personally, if you have products, do your funnels first.

    Wrong, wrong and wrong!

If you are going to treat your offer as a lead magnet, then giving it away for free makes sense.

If you are going to treat it like a trip wire. DON'T price it as $1 regardless of the value it has. It will only devalue you and your product.

That is much better explaination. Usually tripwire is 30% of Main offer

I will sell it for $1, I don't want freebie seekers to use up my autoresponder quota.

even if you sell to them for a dollar you know they are of much better quality than ones who join for free.

In the long run, using up Autoresponder quota should be a non-issue.

And you should really go ahead and adopt the Mindset that it should be a non- issue from day 1.

That is if you want to be Successful.

By using a free lead magnet you will still have the Subscribers who would have paid $1( more than likely) and you will have additional freebie seekers join your List who through your incredible persuasion skills and wonderful products you turn into raving , mad a$$ buyers

Sell at $1 and make the product worth $100.
The objective is to make prospects see it as an absolute no-brainer to spend that $1.

The truth is that its going to be way easier to build a list when offering a freebie. Although, I understand why you want to charge a buck - keeps away tire kickers. No one can really give you a definitive answer on which will work best for you. As you noted, you have to test it out in your niche using your content and persuasive copy.

Personally, I'd chose giving away highly valuable information and suggest products once people have been exposed to the quality of the information.

Not too sure where and why you came up with a price point of $1.00.

That said, if you are trying to build a list, everything should be FREE in my books. Remember the objective is to add names to a database. Forget about if the people behind the email addresses are cheap (freebie seekers) or not. You are not there to judge at the time of list collection.

When you have their names, then you can qualify the list based on your mailing and what is the offer and respective price point. $1.00 would not do the trick. In fact, it may devalue your offering.

So I say, make it free. Go for the numbers. 2% of 50 is not as attractive as 2% of 500.

I think that selling it for one dollar is super. That is how you get a list of hot prospects for other product you can sell later on. People who have bought from you before will trust you more. Get as much information as you can. Also, try to tailor products to the needs of your consumers. All the best to you.

Why not offer it for $9.97 but let people have it for free if they optin? This way you're getting people who would be interested in the product but you're also offering them a great deal.

Depends upon what you are selling, including but not limited to the niche and the product.

I have given away when needed and made sales that are even $6,000 in one transaction (not in IM, of course, but in physical products health niches - and that was the revenue, the net profit is naturally a much smaller percentage) - actually hoping to sell a $9,995 item this week with giving away (partner talking to a customer over the last couple of days).

I have given $1 items and have got good lists, and yes this includes IM.

And I have even given away obfuscated reports and generated moderate (not rocket-like but not necessarily bad) response to attract them into a list (physical products health niches).

Test, test and test. You will know the best what works out in your niche. Nobody will be able to answer it without knowing your niche, and even if they know your niche probably none would really know the real answer as it also depends upon how you got your "customer", what pitch got them into your list (they are still paying with their time and contact details, although not money, even if you give away free), and so on.

Testing yourself is the real solution, in all honesty.
