Should I sell my product on my blogging website or on a separate domain?

Hey guys,

I have a Dutch blog that's just a month old. I have 14 published articles so the blog still needs to get traction.

I am busy with creating a product which I want to sell. Should I sell it on my blog website or should I make a landing page on a new domain? I already registered an EMD domain for the product.

I was planning to go for a the new domain and linking to it with my blog website. Maybe give the first three chapters (it's an ebook) for free as the lead magnet for list building on my blog website.

Maybe even give them a 15% discount if they subscribe for my email newsletter.

Or are there more benefits for creating a landing page on my blog websites and sell the product on my blog.

I am curious what you guys think?

personally I would build a landing page and building the all important list. Now i'm sure you done your research into where your product fits in the current market and how its standout as a MUST HAVE.

Blogging is just one of the methods I have used in the past and if you enjoy building up a following then I would look to expand that method...i.e youtube video or podcasts etc...

I would also look to social media to help build up brand awareness. This is my current method i'm using and to be honest its working well for me so far and has quickly scaled up the awareness of my brand.

To evolve in a business you need to be adaptable and willing to explore new and trusted methods. Believe in yourself and your dreams will come true... This is my motto.

Now as for your ebook, I would look to give it away because another key to a successful business is being seen to giving great value. People like value. Its in our DNA. So I would seriously look at how much value you can give without comprimising your profits.

I look forward to hearing from you and your success.

    Take care and good luck.

    Owen

It really depends, but normally I would have a separate site. You could always sell it on both as well

Personally, I would get a second domain to sell your product on. Down the road, if you ever wanted to sell either your product or your blog then you could easily sell them separately or together as a bundle.

And yes, promote your product on your own blog as well and build that list. The blog sill help you build a relationship with your readers.

    thats awesome!

    Great work!

You should build a good capture page on the new domain for your new product.

Offer a Free Report as a Lead Magnet and have the complete product in the back end as an upsell.

Then create or outsource some nice Banners to put on your blog. You should sell the Free Report in the banner's copy ad.

Place the banners around your site and link it to your Product's Capture Page Site.

So all of this would be a process.....

Banners on Blog >to> Capture Page >to> Free Report >to> Back End Upsell

    Something like that! LOL

    You get the concept right!

This is what I would personally do if I was you!

    I hope this helps!

I wish you the best of the best!

    Cheers!

Thanks everyone, really appreciate your comments! I will give the new domain a purpose!

  • I do separate domains, but I'm not sure that is the optimal answer I see most people sell everything and do the blogging on one domain. Try one out and if it doesn't work for you switch try the other. Good luck.

Your blog is older and you already have a fan base well developed so at first make some teasers and post them on your blog. Say how you will prepare a new product and that it will have a dedicated site of its own. After some days give the link to the site along with those free chapters. Good luck!

        Hey Convictie,

I do not seem why you can't do both. Put a link on your Blog to make some initial sales.

Of course, have a separate Capture page on another domain and start building a List of prospects.

But no reason to not do both. Just focus really hard on that List.

    Hi,

    You can do both!

TEST and track your results from both set ups.

Can you be more aggressive with your landing page campaigns versus
    your blog set up?

In terms of price, up-sells etc.

The more places you can sell your products and find out where those
buyers are coming from and what they're willing to pay.....

....The CLEARER the picture you have of how well your campaigns
    perform.

You just need to make sure that you track each set up and tweak each
part of your funnel as you move forward.

As long as the content on your blog is related to your product I would sell it on your site.

I think you should do both. See which one better in term of sales and conversion for you later, then scale it.

Sounds like you already got the plan laid out buddy especially giving chapters away as a teaser along with a discount for registering at your blog.

With that in mind, I would do both options and put the stand alone page on a affiliate platform like jvzoo or zaxaa so affiliates can push more sales for you

That is some great advice that I can relate to as I am a newbie and just started a blog. I can see that I am in the right place here to learn all that I can. Once again, great advice and I really enjoyed reading the responses.

I personally have my blog and the marketplace together. The reason is because everything is very integrated and also there is only one major site for which to take care all of the SEO stuff.

Also once people find your blog online and like your content they will most likely check out your marketplace/product as well.

So my suggestion would be to merge the two together in a seamless way.

Some people would say have them separate like separate blog, separate sales page and separate squeeze page even but I would say the opposite - be able to combine all in an organized manner and it would look great bringing you more traffic and keeping your motivation higher since you don't have to break yourself in half and SEO two websites unless you would like an agency to do it for you (which I wouldn't recommend since some agencies harm your ranking believe it or not in the long run).

i think you should get people on your list and then provide immense value. So you are basically pre-selling your list. You have to warm them up to your offer. That way they will be more inclined to buy from you. Sometimes its not the product that people buy into but the person! So I would say a separate domain.

My best advice would be to sell on which one has more traffic. If the both are new, build them first and see which one comes first and sell it on that top priority.
