Need ideas for better monetizing PR5 site

Hi there -

I am acquiring thegoodhuman.com, which currently gets 30,000 monthly sessions, but is only making $300/month the way it is currently monetized.

I know it should be doing far better, but I'm having trouble finding the right ideas for significantly improving the monetization.

I'm thinking of either replacing or augmenting the current ad-sense and Amazon ads with targeted affiliates that are specific to the niche - I'm thinking that would yield better conversion rates. Currently my traffic yields only 0.01/visitor overall.

The site has over 3500 pages of very high-quality original content. Unfortunately, after Panda was rolled out, this site's traffic dropped in half - it used to do 60K monthly sessions.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Mike

PR5 backlinks go for high prices. Maybe you can sell PR5 backlinks with monthly renewals. You could make $1,000's.

      Hi there -

I know that the value is in the high PR of the site, but I'm not sure how I could monetize this into backlinks without potentially hurting the PR or otherwise devaluing the site in some way. Do you have an example sites with monetized backlinks so I could get a sense of what this would look like? Would I simply be selling some small banners across the bottom of the page or something like that? Or just straight-up links? Doesn't google penalize sites for this sort of thing? Where or how would I advertise it? I'm used to working through affiliate programs.

      Thanks.

Sell "green" stuff. Organic farming, pollution reduction, etc. Plenty of companies out there with affiliate plans.

Since this post, I've taken many steps to better monetizing, and particularly in adding green-related affiliates. However, what I'm finding is that we see hundreds of clicks coming in through these affiliate ads, but not a single purchase. Very frustrating. Is it possible that the conversion rate in this space is just dreadfully low?

Any thoughts of how to further improve?

Hi there - I appreciate your advice, but I cannot understand your English very well. Can you please try to be more clear?

      Thanks.

You have a subscribe box way down the side of your page. But, what if you put your subscription box in a pop up that happens just after the person visits your site? This box would pop over your page in a light box and could offer a free report that matches the content of your site. This will give you the opportunity to get those one time visitors coming back and let you have monetizing opportunities via the email that you could never get on your own site.

Yup - good advice. I do plan to add a mailing list. The only subscription the previous owner has in place is to subscribe via Feedburner, but a mailing list will be of far greater value and I would expect to have a high subscription rate on a site like this.

There are actually 12 thousand Twitter followers, though I'm not yet sure of how to monetize that, other than to actively tweet to encourage revisiting the site.

I realize the pop-up subscription boxes are very effective, but don't they also alienate users away from the site?
