Most of the methods for doing this are out-dated. 5 years ago, I could have made your head spin with possibilities. For what it's worth, though...

    1. Set up Google Alerts for your keywords.
    2. Blog comment, adding your URL to the comment form
    3. Eye-catching Profile Pic
    4. Non-spammy, useful comments.

A lot of folks BH this, of course. I wouldn't recommend it for either SEO or traffic building. There are SEO advantages and traffic advantages, but it's just a time-consuming method, where better ones exist and are less painful to implement.

This post here is the dogs underwear ... it covers everything and does work!

My only addition but would be to make sure your signature is eye catching and compelling

Takes a lot of time for a little traffic. Should be 1 part of your traffic strategies. If you can afford, it, paid traffic is a lot quicker.

    1. Always make sure that your comments add real value (and are something that you'd warmly welcome, if you owned the site yourself);

    2. Treat it not only as a way of attracting traffic (though that's undeniably the primary, short-term objective), but also as a way of trying to build relationships.

And here are a few other little threads on this subject which contain more answers your question, and may help/interest you ...

You basically find sites in your niche and leave a relevant comment. Also, you should avoid using keyword anchor text in your linked name field. These days,if the blog is being moderated, you will most likely get your comment deleted or hit the spam box. Just leave a comment that you would accept if it were your own site. Don't overthink this it's not rocket science.

I tried this comment method before and had some good results, first you need an outstanding avata, choose an image that has ref, yellow, green, blue background so that everyone must stop when rolling the mouse from the top to botom, second, dont use the keyword as the name section or yr comment would be removed right away the admin see it and the last "trick" is finding some relevent content quickly other places for good target comment conversation.

Commenting on FB pages can bring traffic, but wisely use this method or your FB account will be banned by the admin of a FB page. If you do the spamming, your FB account will suspended by the FB.

If you make it absolutely obvious that the only reason you're on their page is to drop that link, then yeah, it'll probably get removed quicker than you put it up. I would ask the page admin whether they'll allow you to use links in your comments, and even if they do, you should only be linking to relevant/useful materials. As Alexa said already, this is an activity that will be most effective if you don't just focus on the potential short term benefits (which of course there are some, namely traffic), but also look at the bigger picture and aim to build relationships with these site owners, which may end up resulting in more lucrative opportunities in the future, such as guest contributions on their site or even being mentioned in the content they put out there.

Blog comments do still work, and its a method that snowballs. If one blog comment generates you a new click/subscriber/whatever you're trying to do once per five days, you can see how doing more would increase the rate of this occuring. The higher quality your comment, the better results you will have.

    Will add a bit more.

There is no good WH way to do this. I mean, yes, you'll get traffic. But the time and effort you expend is better directed elsewhere. I won't go into the BW techniques (not that I do them myself) but these are really the only viable solution to using this model, when you take into account opportunity cost.

I can, however, give you a friendly push in the right direction.

It will take a while before you see steady traffic. A good alternative would be forum marketing. People ask questions and you provide them with an answer.

Make sure you provide value whichever route you decide to go.

I think blog commentint require first that you consider your target audience, what blogs do they read and comment on and then develop strategies, measurable goals and then the tasks to get it done.

In four months, my blog articles will receive on average at or near 100 comments per article after a month. It's mostly because of the high quality comments I leave on other blogs in my niche. I've been blessed to get the attention of severeal blog influencers in my niche that have introduced me to their audience by commenting on my blog, sharing my posts on their social media and including links to my articles in their blogs.

It's been a process of community building that has payed off big time for me.

However, the thing is you have to make it about them. It has nothing to do with you. When I leave a comment it's almost a blog within their blog where I share an idea, thought or concept that adds to the conversation.

Let me take it one step further, not only I have sold several consulting / coaching opportunities because of comments where people came back to my website; I've also connected offline with other major influencers where jv partnerships are being created to speak and cross promote each others books.

Does blog commenting work!!!! You bet it does. Just check out my blog and social media. It's proof coming from a four month old blog.

Just think of it like networking. The best companies network and the principles online are the same as offline, it's just that the tools are different. If your mindset is right, blog commenting is a great way to gain access and build influence.

It does require some time, effort, strategy and work. But it's very worth it if you do it right.

If you take time to get personally invested into other blog communities then it could be worthwhile to leave comments. However, don't go around spamming random blogs with one off comments. Instead pick five to ten blogs that you actually like reading and comment several times a week (over months) and your comments will likely attract traffic for you if they are actually good content.

  • commenting is one of the best ways to drive traffic. Comment on other blogs with insightful, useful comments. just be careful on using this tactic, admins or blog owners might see this as spamming.

Simply Comment gives a backlink to the website and is a part of SEO that is called Search Engine Optimisation.
In this Section you comment to have high quality backlinks that increases your page rank on google search results. It is necessary to comment on the related niche because only this way you create high quality backlinks.

If your content is unique then google will automatically increase pagerank but not other wise.

Blog commenting maybe one of the easiest backlink and to get traffic to your websites.
Preferably follow related niche blogs that you want to comments. Don't just try to comment and jump from one blog to another. Be consistent, and don't be stranger for them. There are many DON'T in blog commenting priory because of last few years it have been use for spamming. You should comment to ask, answer questions or reply. Provide value to your comment. People will love reading comments, but not spammy comments. Setting up Google alert for your keyword should be one way to identify the latest comment/post that you interested and I use BuzzBundle software to find forum/Q&A site/post/blog/social media that related to keywords. I found it much easier to use it. For money site, I will stay away direct backlinks using software like xrummer/senuke..

I look around the threads and make sure the topis I am about to open up is something I have personally dealt with in the past or dealing with in the present moment.

I then share my experience to be able to add value, help, support, influence their thinking for them to be able to solve the problem.

If that much is done in a comment then having your link, description, value proposition or what have you is totally fine.

Only thing is that different forums have different rules about this - meaning when you can actually start having a signature and all so this you should read up on real quick before going at it.

You can use Google Search. I think None better than Google.
A Blog that is getting high traffic is difficult to find.
you can search over Alexa rank and spend a little time over there, i m sure you will find the TOP one sooner as possible.

AllTop with give you popular blogs in your niche. These are well respected sites in the eyes of Google. If you can obtain a link from one of these popular blogs, you will get a nice bump in traffic and search engine ranking to your blog/site.

A little tip if you want comment on blogs. Get alexa pro membership. Pick a well known blog in your niche. Scan all the sites that link to it. If it's a blog save it in notepad list. You will find so many sites faster than if you looked on google. The sites will be laser targeted.

You want the site to under 1,000,000 in terms of traffic rank but no higher than 1000. The reason being is because sites like that tend to be more broad.

Now save all of those sites into feedly to get alerts of new blog posts. Be first to comment. What you do with the traffic is up to you. I see people who comment and link directly to their squeeze page instead of their blog.

  • I comment on some blogs that I follow in Digg Reader and most don'g get traffic but once in a while some of my comments do, and usually if it's something that gave and idea or another way of doing something or a shortcut and people read it. I would comment anyway since I do read about a dozen blogs a days (just the new article that shows up in the feed).

I used to comment on IM related blogs... EZA, Wordstream, Aweber, etc. I do get clicks from my posts, but like Tony said earlier in this thread.... alot of time for a little traffic. Don't make it the backbone of your business. Maybe if your product price is high enough, you can invest into advertising and slowly make your money back. Instead of waiting forever for a slow stream of traffic.

First of all you will need to identify influential blogs in your niche. You may use the following free tools to identify quality blogs:

a.) AllTop - This is a good tool, which provides you with a list of good blogs in almost every industry.
b.) Technorati - It also provides a list of quality blogs.
c.) FollowerWonk - This tool takes a different approach to identifying influential blogs. Instead of searching for popular blogs, you search for people behind the popular blogs.
d.) Google search - Google is good place to look for influential blogs. If a blog appears in Google's top results, then it's respected by Google. If you can get a link from a site that's already ranking well in Google, then you can be sure you will get a nice boost in traffic and search engine ranking to your blog.

After you identify quality blogs, then you may start posting your comments on those blogs. You need to know that generic great posts won't get you anywhere. You will need to write something complimentary and adds a new twist to the blogger's post. Preferably, you may tell a little story that illustrates blogger's post.

Commenting once is not advisable. You will need to keep on commenting on your popular blogs that you identified. That way, you will be building relationship with popular bloggers, which will increase your chance of getting guest blog placements with ease.

Find a few really high traffic, popular blogs within your niche and become a regular on those sites. You will want to make lengthy and relevant comments on all new blog posts regular. Just make yourself part of that person's blog community, a regular fixture there until everyone visiting the blog recognizes you. Take time not only to read the article and comment there, but also comment back to answer questions of other people who have taken time to comment on the same blog posts.

Comment on authoritative sites in your niche. Your comment has to be highly insightful. You should comment as early as possible. You can also setup notification while RSS feed of a particular site of interest is updated.

Treat your every comment as guest post. By leaving INSIGHTFUL comments, you attract their sites' loyal readers to your blog.
