Can I receive alerts from Paypal when a payment is received?

I've been changing one of my main sites and am wondering if anyone knows of an option to receive alerts (like text alerts) from paypal when a payment is received. Don't like the idea of having to keep checking my email just to see if a payment has been recieved.

Thanks!
Jenny

I haven't tried, but just as mentioned by someone on the page to which Anne links, above, I've also heard people saying that it's much easier to do this within your own email client software than it is to do it within PayPal.

It depends on what you consider an alert.

I setup a special gmail account and have PayPal sale emails sent there. I use an Android phone and I leave it signed in to that gmail account. I setup a "cha-ching" alert on my phone to let me know when I receive an email to that account. It's kind of cool.

You'll always get an email from Paypal when a sale is made. I'm just trying to find a way to get an alert without having to check my email several times a day.

That sounds perfect. The only thing is my primary paypal email is yahoo (and I can't change it - it would be an utter nightmare... had it for over 15 years).

      Hi Jenny,

I receive a push notification on my iPhone each time I receive a payment on PayPal and I love it!

Here's how to set it up:
      Log into PaPal
      Click on Profile
      Click on My Settings
Click on Mobile Devices and Push Notifications
Add your Apple mobile device (sorry it only works on Apple devices)

      Then...

Download the Paypal App to your iPhone

Open your PayPal app on your phone and go to Settings
      Click on Notifications
Here you can decide if you want PayPal to notify you when you:
      -send money
      -receive a request for money
-receive money (this is the one you want to turn on)
      -buy something

The only one I have turned on is "receive money"

Now you will hopefully get a little thrill when you wake up in the morning and see that you've received money.

      Hope this helps!

      Cheers,

That would be terrific, unfortunately I have an android. But thanks for the tip! I'm really surprised Paypal doesn't have a droid app.

I checked and, yes I can forward an email to another email address. I use forwarders within Yahoo, but never knew I could forward emails to another email address.

          Jenny,

Any decent email software will allow you to create rules for this sort of thing. Do a search on:

          creating filters rules in softwarename

... and you'll usually find plenty of tutorials on it. Substitute the name of your email software where it says softwarename, obviously.

Here's a little workaround that may help if you want to receive them as text messages and don't have an Apple device.

Send a text message to the mailbox where you usually receive your Paypal notifications. (Yes, you can do that. Just put the email address where you'd normally type the phone number.) The email will show up in that mailbox with no subject line.

Look at the From field of that message. That's the email address you'll forward the notifications to. Note that any messages forwarded this way will include the subject line of the original email in the SMS, and you may only get the first 160 characters of the message. That will depend on whether it gets treated as an SMS or an MMS message.

With a decent email client like Pegasus Mail or Apple Mail, you can set the filters so that only messages that match certain criteria get forwarded. For example, if the sender is friend@example.com AND the subject line is "You've got cash."

In some email programs you can set it up so that receiving messages that fit certain criteria will generate a whole new email to a specified address. If yours supports that, try setting the body content and leaving the subject line blank. That way the body is all that will show in the text message.

Some emailers will choke on an automatically generated message that doesn't have a subject line, so you may not be able to do that one. Still, it's a more elegant way to handle it if you can.

Obligatory reminder: If you pay to receive text messages, or have a maximum per month on your plan, these will count. Most people don't any more, but it's best to mention it.

Having that email address for texts can be handy for other things, too. Just keep in mind that it's one of the rare times when you don't want to use a subject line if you can avoid it.

You know you can go back to the classic site - there's a link in the lower left side when you first login.

If you have the email going to a gmail account you can set up a filter to forward all email from paypal that contains the text you normally see in a 'you made a sale' notice. You then instruct that filter to foward those emails to your mobile phone as texts and leave a copy in gmail. Start by looking up how to convert your phone number to an email address -it depends on your carrier. For example if it's ATT:
      5551234567@txt.att.net

sorry I see Paul already explained most of this - missed that post on first read
