Is the Fat Loss Niche Recession Proof?

Just your opinion on whether or not the fat loss niche is recession proof in terms of selling diet ebooks, or supplements online?

how in your opinion does the fat loss niche perform in relation to economic times?

When the economy gets bad to people tend to care more about how they feel or what they look like?

any feedback is appreciated!!

this question almost seems not serious...

of course the fat loss niche is recession proof.

idk about the ebooks part of it, but selling information products that are video based,
and supplements will always be around.

I have ads in my swipe file that are over 100 years old pertaining to losing weight, this niche won't go anywhere, but the product delivery mechanism might change though.

I'd say the fat loss niche is recession proof to a point. If you're selling a mid or higher priced fat loss product and a customer loses their job for instance, they may opt to go with something cheaper. Or they may not be able to afford a fat loss product at all.

"Fat loss" is too broad a definition, you will find it extremely difficult (and probably expensive). Drill down and promote dieting before a wedding, after a baby, while pregnant, after 40, after 50, by biking, by swimming, etc., etc.

You will find anything along those lines much easier.

I believe this is true to a certain extent.

I think that it also depends on the selling medium.

Everyday there are people that spend up to $2000 upfront for products that will help them lose weight or fat in the direct selling market, so I think it truly depends on the delivery and selling mechanism that you use to sell it.

Ha ha...losing weight is an evergreen topic that reaps in billions of dollars each year from diet books, exercise equipment, low-fat foods and other products. It's recession proof, because there are people who are always self-conscious about how they look.

Now, whether you are able to make money in this market or not by promoting fat loss products is another story. The weight loss niche is huge and there are many ways to approach it. Do your research and drill down to a sub-niche so that you stand a chance of getting noticed. Being unique in some way helps.

My last foray into this niche was successful at first. I created a weight loss diet plan review site where I reviewed Clickbank products. Unfortunately, some losers decided to steal my content and put it on their site (my unique content was thorough and honest), which tanked my site in the serps because of the duplicate penalty. I got most of it taken down, but my site never recovered and I moved on. But, that site did make money while it ranked. Fat loss is a moneymaker for sure, but you need to be honest with people when promoting products in this niche, because they hate being scammed or misled.

"Fat Loss".... that's an easy niche. I could pimp that out in a minute. It doesn't matter if it's recession proof. There will always be a percentage of the Earth's population who will want to lost belly fat or lose 50 pounds by the time their high school reunion comes around. You can make it work... only if your marketing is good.

It's a great niche to make money in though you will need to have a lot of knowledge & experience as the competition is tough. I also find that there are not too many recurring billing products within this niche. So even though the demand is high earning passive income without lots of traffic or a huge list might be difficult.

I would recommend you create your own quality product & do joint ventures & also put it onto Clickbank. This is how the top guys like Tom Venuto & Mike Geary made a fortune in the weight loss niche.

    Cheers

Like others have said, and like you pretty much knew yourself, yes. It does have it's highs and lows though. For instance, during the winter, and right around most holidays you will always see a big jump in traffic. Summer tends to be the slow time for diet.

I've been doing diet as my main vertical for years, being an affiliate and a physical product creator (my own brand of diet supplements). Micro niches are good, but you can still make a ton of money with general ads, but you have to be savvy. One thing I'd like to say if you're deciding to get into it - You have to have killer landing pages. There's no way you can send traffic straight to an offer page and expect sales. Questionnaires and surveys work very well for preselling and getting the prospect interested.

This is a very competitive and ever changing market, but it's also very easy to make small fortunes literally over night.

The diet market is overrun with trial offers and recurring monthly payments. The average customer lifespan might not be as long as other markets, but they are literally the gold mine of the industry. In order for that to work in your favor, you would have to be a product owner. That might seem like a giant task, but it's well worth it.

What you need, as a marketer, in recessionary times, isn't really "recession-proof niches": it's "recession-proof customers".

The traffic demographics are far more signifcant, in principle, than the niche. (Yes, the two can overlap, to some extent, because some niches attract specific demographics, but the point is still a fundamental and significant one to appreciate, IMHO).

They probably tend to care more about how they look during a recession bc they need a reason to feel good about something.

I would say Weight Loss is recession proof and if you really want to make it a go you need to narrow your subject within this Industry.

I think a lot of people make the mistake of thinking it is easy money because there are so many potential prospects out there in the World for weight loss.

But there is just so much competition out there.

Think micro niche within this Market.

people will always be buying regardless of economic times in every niche and industry, moreso the reason to charge above market value prices, to stand out above the noise. As long as you over deliver and aligh with the right people you will do well .

There will always be someone wanting to lose weight for some reason and not everyone will be out of a good paying job during a recession. Those with jobs will still get married/divorced/have babies and encounter a myriad of other life events that require quick/effective weight loss to recover from. So you just have to know who these people with the money are and target them, whether they are online or offline.

    Does it cause stress?

Are people irrationally passionate about their weight + appearance?

Does it keep them awake at night?

If self hatred is the real issue, then maybe marketing a 'self love' motivational product rather than one about losing weight is the real solution as that's going to fix them better than a new fad diet.

Without repeating what others have already said. The basic requirement for capitalizing on this recession proof market (fatloss is not niche)

        • Can you offer a new or different twist?
        • Can you offer it with enough credibility?
        and
        • Can you prove it works?

Those are the 'sticking points' when it comes to taking advantage of this evergreen market. Plus it's also where you'll find most of the dead bodies who try to crack this market - with a niche product or service.

So, as you can see determining whether fat loss is recession proof is the easy part.

The weight loss / fitness niche is huge. I have my own fitness site but had to do a ton of SEO to get a decent amount of traffic because the keywords I targeted were so competitive. It's best to write articles based on what people want to achieve with their weight loss goals. This is pretty easy to do. Join a couple of weight loss / fitness forums and read some of the questions people are asking.

I could agree with the premise that it is recession proof but ONLY in the US since the problem of weight loss is connected straight to self consciousness. In other countries people don't really care as much about the looks as much as about the character/behavior of the person but then that is another topic on its own right.

Right now, US diet is harder than it has been in a long time(for me). I mainly contribute that to FB cracking down and screwing with my bigger ad accounts.

As far as other countries go, AU, CA and Uk are killing it recently with diet offers. Especially in the smaller sub categories, such as French speaking Canadians, Spanish speaking Americans ect.
