Does Anyone Buy Banner Ad Space on Website as Marketing?

I am thinking of choosing an affiliate marketing product, and buying some ad space on a forum that specializes in that niche, and seeing if I can make any money from it..

Has anyone ever tried this? How much does a website usually charge for some ad space? Meaning a banner at the top of their site.

Any guidance would be appreciated. Thank you all.

Well, at the top of the forum here you'll see banner ads. I believe these spaces can be purchased for $100 for a 24 hour day. Can't tell you what any other site would charge, you might approach them to discover their rates. Often you'll be able to find the info you seek easily enough.

Before you start buying ad space you probably want to know exactly what you hope to accomplish; get leads, build list, make sales, etc. And of course, once you know what you want to accomplish, start buying small for testing purposes.

Have a plan, work the plan.

Yes, paying for banner ads (or text ads) on related blogs or forums is a good way to advertise.

Build your list with it (not just send the traffic to a landing page, etc.)

I pay $300 a month to a blog owner for a text ad in the top left corner of his blog (which gets an ungodly amount of traffic) and use the traffic I get from my text ad to build my list in that niche (non-IM related).
