sorry stupid question

I know I should know this already since I have been at this for a while but maybe since I don't do this could by why. I know PPC and a few other things like this but isn't there something where you place someones add on your site and if they click on it you get paid for just sending someone to the advertisers site. I can't remember what that is called or who does it.

There are a few networks, for arranging this.

The best-known one is called "AdSense" and that's run by Google. The "AdSense content network" is the part of it that puts display ads on people's websites and pays the webmaster/owner something for every click on an ad. It's a strange form of monetization (typically very small amounts of money) which pays people when their visitors leave their sites, rather than staying there (which is, of course, what most of us want our visitors to do!).

yeah adsense is one, and now the popular sites are those news sites where when you click on the site image that looks like another article, you get paid - blam!

CPA networks are another way to do this. They usually have higher commission rates than ad sense, but you only get paid off purchases or optins, not usually for just redirecting traffic.
