Internet Explorer version 8 stinks

unless I type in a password version 8 won't let me see my own site because I don't have a rating I've got to go through a long procedure to get to see my own site or any other sites.

Is anybody with version 8 experiencing the same problem, this is the way it came out of the box. So there must be something to turn it off and if anybody could tell me what I'd appreciate it.

Internet Explorer 8 was automatically installed on my computer, if I had a chance I wouldn't have installed it on my own.

If this is the kind of hassle that Internet Explorer 8 causes then I'm afraid that everybody's traffic will be affected seriously as more and more people change to Internet Explorer 8.

With somebody who has Internet Explorer 8, kindly see if they can see
African recipes, African cooking and African Cookbooks, The African Recipes Book, Real food from Africa without any hassle.

Thanks

Michael

I don't really use it but I have it installed. Your site works fine for me.

The site comes up fine for me Michael. I have IE8 installed so not sure what the issue could be.

I ue IE8, and agree...it stinks. Not because it's Microsoft, but because when big companies make "improvements", they rely too heavily on the opinions of a few. Whether those few are part of the corporate structure, or a focus group, it doesn't matter.

Maybe it's just me not liking change all that much, but when Hotmail, Yahoo Mail, my ISP, IE, FireFox, and so many more, made updates and "improvements" I ws left wondering exactly what was supposed to be better.

    All the best,

The dammed thing won't even allow me to see M. S. N. because that doesn't have a rating either. Apparently people can get a list of up-to-date sites from Microsoft these sites are ones that have a rating given to them apparently by Microsoft.

If somebody can tell me what to turn off so that websites don't need ratings I'd appreciate it.

Thanks for looking at my site guys.

Could you post the messages in any of the dialog boxes that pop up or stuff that's written on the page before you can access it please? I've not heard of this one but I can track down answers pretty fast if I've got some error messages to work with.

      Cheers,

      Michael,

You don't have to be stuck with IE 8 you can uninstall through your control panel and go back to IE 7.

I tired your site with IE 8 and it comes up fine, your slide down box also works perfectly.

I briefly installed internet explorer 8 and it was very good for the days I had it before I had to have my hard drive wiped (long story) and I was thinking of installing it again; but I'm having too much fun with firefox.

I've never heard of certain sites being blocked or that need to have a rating in order to access it.

I do not like IE8, did not use IE7 either. I find a lot of IE products are bloated and troublemakers.
I have five other browsers on my computer and until recently primarily used Avant.
The others are Opera, Chrome, Firefox and Safari.

Sometimes I go in and check my security setting if something odd starts to happen, on rare occasions I'll reset the security settings in case a program I installed made a change without 'asking'.
Have you googled for a possible solution?

Another reason I don't make IE my main browser, actually it's the least used browser on my computer.

    Michael,

    Maybe this will help:

More about 2400+ websites and IE 8 compatibility list

Try running it in Compatibility View.

I just upgraded myself to check it out (I use FF a lot so I'm not completely up on IE8 yet)

When I installed IE8 I turned off all the "nanny" features like keeping me to going to some websites, etc.

I'm not terribly fond of IE8 either, though Michael's site works fine for me in it.

Someone sent me a link yesterday that autoforwards to a masked affiliate link. Doesn't work in IE8. Works fine in Chrome and Firefox. Definitely something for marketers to be concerned about since IE is still by far the most common browser.

    hi Andy,

I can't post a review of the dialog box because whenever I try to use camtasia the damn thing freezes my computer. However this is what the dialog box says.

Content advisor will not allow you to see this page.
This page may contain all of some of the following.

this page does not have a rating.

If you still want to see this page, someone must type in the supervisor password

Always allow this website to be viewed.
Always allow this page to be viewed.
allow viewing only this time. (This appears to be the default)

    Password =

Although this message came up the web page showed, because I had previously typed in the password however the dialog box opened up on the actual webpage itself.

I hope you can find out what's causing this so I can fix it. However, if this is a general problem, it will definitely cause problems with traffic.

The quick text answer is -

      Load Internet Explorer

      Tools Menu

      Internet Options

      Content Tab

Click on the disable button in the top section

I've also made a 30 second video showing you how to do it if you prefer audio/visual to help find the stuff.

thanks Andy, I really appreciate the trouble you've gone to.
I had read the directions for this but I was looking in the wrong place.
Your explanation was much better than Microsoft's.

The thing is if your ordinary user gets version 8 and they have the same problem I did, it will seriously affect my traffic.
Here's holding thumbs this was an anomaly.

    Thanks

Just a quick note to those who have said what browser they prefer. It doesn't really matter. The problem is what browser your site's visitors are using. And, for the most, the majority will likely stick to some version of IE for a long time to come. Sorry, but that seems to be the truth.

And you wouldn't believe the number of people who are still using IE5 and IE6!

I think if you have used Firefox 3 you'll not stick with IE 8. Microsoft products are never as good as they claim. Always have problems with viruses and the like.
