Amazon Affiliates Question

So finally have finished my KW research and have a couple of ideas but lo and behold just learned I cannot be a part of Amazon Affiliates in NC. What do I do now?. I was going the product review path with Amazon products but my options now are to source direct from suppliers (hard right) or go with Clickbank type digital products. I really haven't like the idea of going the digital product route as I figure it would be a less stable business long term but I'm surely not learnt on the topic. Any thoughts here? Thanks.

Digital products are actually very sustainable and a lot easier with less overhead when it comes to scaling it.

Physical items includes shipping and stocks and you eliminate that with digital products altogether.

Can you get copied and ripped off? Of course. But this is when your brand strength comes into place.

The stronger the brand the harder it is to rip you off so you should focus on that more.

But definitely don't be discouraged from digital products.

Clickbank products are very sustainable, they have been around for years and they are not going away. I havfe had much success with selling on clickbank as an affiliate and the great thing is they pay on time and with direct deposit right into your bank account.

It is also a lot easier to sell digital products because your over head and initial investment are low.

BTW the best thing you can do that is "sustainable" if you want to sell digital products is to start right up front in your online business building a list. VERY sustainable source of targeted traffic and YOU own that traffic.

No matter what niche you decide to promote nor what products to sell, you have to have traffic, and a list that you build is going to be your most sustainable asset - even more important than what products you promote.

Jen couldn't have said it better.

The true value is in relationship building and brand longevity. Focus on selling yourself first, then sell your products. You'll find there's much more value in selling a quality relatable product to your loyal following of repeat clients.. rather than force feeding non-targeted products down complete strangers throats.

Affiliate marketing is affiliate marketing. The process is the same. Amazon is just one site. There may be similar ones that you can join. I don't know how far the thing with promoting physical products extends in a sate with nexus legislation. Back-in-the-day, I used to promote cost-per-action products, where I earned a flat-rate fee per sale rather than a percentage. Maybe that's possible. Also, the stuff on Clicbank has improved over the years. It's not just e-books. There's a lot of video-audio-PDF-oriented stuff.

amazon gives upt 20% of commission on sales, whereas clickbank give up to 75% commissions. Both of the them require same amount of work for promotions. Hence instead of amazon, you can go for clickbank.

I believe the affiliate aggregator Viglink is one of the ways in which residents of states from which Amazon doesn't accept associates can still legitimately earn money through their associate program. It might be something to investigate?

Amazon commissions normally range from 4% to 8.5% (depending on your number of sales made during the month).

They have many similarities and many differences, but overall, that isn't my own experience at all.

Why can't you be an affiliate from there? Is it possible for you to get a mailbox in another state to register?

Thanks all. Very helpful stuff. Will review and get back with some follow up. Abe, NC is on the no fly list for Amazon Affiliates. Believe there are only 5 states in the whole country not able to be a part of the program and of course I am in one of them. I'm not sure why but I guess blowback by NC to force Amazon to collect sales tax.

Yes Amazon commission are low compared to clickbank but you probably have more sales via Amazon due to you being linked to reputable brand. So what was the actual reason for you not being able to be affiliate?

I was under the impression Viglink specifically abided by Amazon's policy but interestingly enough I just found the Amazon Associates updated Operating Agreement and am I right that NC is no longer on the restricted list. This would be great news. See below.

Hmmm ... so it seems! It appears to specify only Arkansas, Colorado, Maine, Minnesota, Missouri and Rhode Island as the "excluded states"?

A quick look around via Google also reveals some bloggers recently posting that they've spoken with Amazon and confirmed that that's so (don't know how reliable that is - it's all second-hand information).

I think "asking Amazon themselves" should probably be your next port of call?

      Good luck!
