What is the RIGHT way to copy an article from another site onto yours!?

I want to copy articles from other sites onto my wordpress blog, and i want to do it the right way.

Do i just copy paste the content from that site onto a new post in wordpress? Or do you copy the URL somehow? How do you do it? While still giving kudos to the author

Do you hear anything about syndication? I think this is the best way.... You can add content then link the article to the original source.

Do you mean finding articles through ezine and such places?

The thing is i have developed a list of site within my niche so i pretty much know where to find all the articles i need. And yes i do plan on sumbitting my articles to places like ezine for syndication but also directly publishing on relevant niche sites(im creating alliances).

Do you mean link as in literally just say at the bottom
      "From xyz.com" where xyz.com is a hyperlink?

      p.s thanks for answering

Article syndication are mostly done with news articles I believe. take a look for instance the hufingtonpost.com. They create a paragraph or two summary then there is a link to an article source.

If you want to sell something, article syndication is not a good idea I think as you are telling the customers to leave your site.

While not my main traffic method, i plan to write my own content and also use other content so that :

          1. the content of others will help add material to my site(100 original articles) thus pump my SEO(although i dont care too much about SEO) and give my users more to read while stayign on my site, i dont plan on summaries, i want to put in whole articles

          2. My original content will also help with SEO btu more importantly i can post it on related sites that have huge traffic and seniority, giving me good backlinks and sending traffic my way from their huge user base

Am i going about this right?

My main site is a dating site, end goal is to convert people to users

here is the problem with your logic. Using someone else material would be considered duplicate content. It doesn't matter if you have permission or not. This WILL NOT help your SEO, in fact it is a fast track to getting your site sandboxed by Google. There are methods that you can use, to stop these pages from being indexed, but not overly easy to do with WordPress. However even doing that, again you are loosing any and all SEO advantage.

You want to stick with option #2 below. Write your own content and share it elsewhere.

Oh really? I thought that duplicate content will get you sandboxed ONLY if its a duplicate of other material on your site. Else websites like hufpost and news.com etc that copy 100s of articles a month would have 0 SEO value.

So are you sure its duplicate content from any external sites that will penalise you as well??

              Thank you

The only way you can use others' content is to get specific permission to use it.

You can't copy content, attribute it back to the source, and avoid possible copyright infringement.

If an article carries a resource box and specifically says you are free to use it as is with attribution, you will be safe if you give credit.

You can quote short snippets of content and you can review what is said and critique it, but straight copying is never appropriate.

I know articles and content are "scraped" and copied from web sites all the time; however, it is done illegally and the thief is open to prosecution.

If you want to use something your didn't create, get specific written permission from the author.

Thanks Steve! A website may have many authors though, is it enough to get permission from the site editor/owner or do you need every single author?

You should get permission from the copyright holder - usually the author unless the copyright has been transferred or the author licensed the work to someone else.

Start with the author and ask if you can get permission to use the piece on your site. Sometimes the author will be glad to do so his work can get exposure.

If he wrote the piece for someone else or relinquished distribution rights, he will be able to tell you that.

        Good luck,

I think most people is missing the OPs point.

Obviously he does not care about duplicate content which is a bunch of hogwash too if you ask me.

Here's an easy way to go around it...

    1. Create a short 1 to 2 paragraph introduction of the article you're going to link to.
    2. Don't get the whole article but rather just get the best parts of it.
    3. After the end of the post, make sure that you're linking back to the source and you also mention them.
    4. Instead of sending them emails asking them permission to post their article on your site, ask them if they would like to guest post. Same effort you'll be exerting but longer benefits in case they agree.

Lastly, I think what you really want to do is curate content and not 'COPY' content.

If you are giving credit to the original author and he has no problem in sharing your content, you can do it. One way of doing it is having their link at the beginning or end of the article.

This is a much simpler question than is widely believed.

There's only ever one "right way" to do that, and it's "with permission".

If you're taking an article specifically from an article directory, and you do so entirely within the directory's terms of service (they vary, but will always include "using the article in its entirety" and "unedited, unamended" and "including the author's resource-box"), then you have the author's permission to use it - and that was what s/he put it there for.

In any other cases, wherever you take it from, you need the author's permission.

Don't imagine that "accrediting the author" or "giving the author a link" is a substitute, or an excuse, if you don't have the copyright-owner's permission to re-publish the article.

    It isn't.

And it isn't a defense to having your site removed when the copyright owner serves a DMCA take-down notice by email on your hosting company. ("It only happens all the time".)

And it isn't a defense to a lawsuit for breach of copyright, either.

(And don't be fooled by all the "curation myths" you'll see around. That's a whole different subject all of its own, and one with which plenty of Warriors, and others, have had "accidents".)

It really is as simple as this.

Then contact the author and get permission.

(For anyone interested, by the way, re-publishing an article on a different domain and site does not create "duplicate content". It creates "syndicated content". The difference between the two is explained in this post. )

The only way to do what he wants is to ask permission. Some are talking about "curation" but if you are going to try that, you need to know what is and isn't allowed.

The best way would be to write his own articles - or hire a writer to do them for him. He can buy cheap PLR and do a bit of juggling around and have an article that is honestly his to use.

There are still article directories like EZA that allow you to take an article and reprint it (with bio box) on your site.

What I see in this thread are people (who should know better) trying to tell someone how to get around rules. The OP is asking nicely if something is ok to do....NO, IT ISN'T. Yet most here are saying "here's how" - and when you do that you are creating YOUR business reputation.
