Internet marketing minus the BS

Cairde,

Im looking for some recommendations on internet marketing courses for someone who is pretty green on the subject. I have purchased a couple already and they seem to offer great value on the surface but i soon figured out that they are just long drawn out videos that take a hour to deliver a point that could fit into a sentence. If you guys have any advice on courses that cut the bullshit that would be awesome.

I have been looking into affiliate marketing quite a bit. I also have been researching SEO, E-mail, digital assets and blogs. Im not 100% on what i want to run with. Trying to absorb everything which i admit is probably not the bet route.

      Cheers for the reply

        Well...

Until you're certain which area you wish to pursue, I advise putting away your credit card. Take advantage of the information you have to hand. Learn enough to make a wise buying decision. There's even a possibility, after such research, you won't need to make a buying decision at all.

You may want to digest the technical aspects first. Which basically means Wordpress, plugins and themes. And God help you if you have to try to figure out Google Analytics lol, it's a NIGHTMARE. I think an alien from planet niburu created Analytics.

Then for me, I make my best money offering real services locally. But it's getting more flooded and exact-match domains are no longer the boon they used to be. And now we're on the verge of losing all keyword data from Google, except what we pay for. Exit question - why is a Goggle user's privacy worth less if I pay for it?

That's going to be hard to find, there's just a lot of fluff everywhere. It's slowly changing, but what you'll have to do in the meantime is sift through the cr4p to find the good stuff.

The warrior room is a good price for value option IMO and has a LOT of WSO's for free + much more.

I suggest you learn as much as you can about how to build a list, how to get traffic and then stick to ONE niche in ONE country (doesn't have to be english speaking) and focus on it for the next while.

Paid traffic is usually the fastest method to success... but will still take time (and money) to learn.

    How you doing??

In terms of learning, I reckon you can do it without spending money on courses. For me the course I took was Chris Farrell membership. That was $30 and for me who was a TOTAL newbie was a good investement as Chris explained everything and made easy to understand. After I watched the many video sessions I decide to leave but I left with a strong foundation for me to build upon.

You see there a lot of information to be found on the warrior forum, all you need to do is ask the right question but rest assure you will find the answers your looking for.

Now for me affilate marketing is a great option to start off on because investments are reasonable but your returns can be great but in order to succeed you need to do following.....

    1. Research your niche you want to enter. Use google keyword planner and list your top 3 niches.
    2. Look at the competition. See what they aint doing and what you can.
    3. Decide on whether you going to build a website or do a blog
    4. Find products to promote. Clickbank, JVzoo, Amazon just to name a few.
    5. Work on a business plan. Set yourself realistic goals. Set deadlines.
    6. Create content. Its quality more than quantity and more importantly you have to be consistent.
    7. Decide on how your going to promote it and gain traffic. Possible routes are social media (personal favourite), solo ads etc... Whichever way you want to proceed, beware you might have to spend some money here just do your homework and make sure your going to see a good return.
I hope this helps a bit, if you have anymore questions. Please feel free to get in touch.

    Wishing you all the best.

    Hey Manannan ,
Your title of this Thread is ironic.

One course I used to promote is really a quality one with lots of Value.

It is called Affiliate Marketing without the BS.

Steve Scott is the Creator of it.

Just very solid. And one of the first courses I purchased a few years back that was actually very credible.

What you seem to be saying is that you want the CliffNotes version of the
information instead of the full book. I don't understand that you got no value
from the video, just that the points could have been made in more precise
format. Maybe you'll prefer text rather than videos then.

You initially picked the wrong courses - video courses aren't for you, as someone already pointed. Next time, look for PDFs.

Let's move ahead, you need to know yourself before you spend money on any other course. Buying courses without knowing your interest, why you need one, what you actually want to get from the course - is nothing but waste of time and money.

You cannot be in two different cities at one time, right? Therefore, you should decide what you want to learn within IM industry.

To be honest, it is really hard to find a course without BS. Because what's BS for you is a cupcake for your course-mate. You see, you do not like watching videos, but there are people who love step-by-step video courses (BS = cupcake)

Lastly, why don't you explore this forum for all the FREE stuff and lots of freebies? Let's begin with the free stuff, choose a clear path and then buy an advanced course to polish your skills.

If you're a complete newbie to blogging, S.E.O. and all that, you might want to check out Affiloblueprint 3.0 by Mark Ling. He's awesome and really knows his stuff. The course is taught by him actually showing you how to build a site (outside of the IM niche). There's also video, PDF's -- pretty much something to cater to every learning style and is really comprehensive. It's kind of like having your own private tutor or something.

You're better off doing your own research on products you buy and studying them and applying what you learned. I know there is A LOT OF B.S out there, I know I get it. I've bought a lot of things in the past that just didn't deliver to what they promised. HOWEVER, many of the products are helpful, if you just took the time to study it and apply it. I can understand falling victim to a few bad products I get it I've been there, and it's ashame it's like that. But 100 products into it, you are still saying you're getting scammed(not saying thats the OP by the way), than it must be the buyer that is stuck in information gathering mode and is hoping for a silver bullet? The real truth? Internet Marketing isn't easy, yes you can automate everything, but to put everything together is WORK, yes you can outsource a lot of stuff, but at the end of the day, you are the decision maker and you are responsible for your life, it's up to you to make it happen despite your circumstances, and be willing to do whatever it takes to be successful.

    What level are you really?

What intermmediate marketers consider fluff is necessary for someone who's really new.

Take Chris Farrell's program for example. For someone who knows what they're doing, he seems to talk forever but newbies love him because he explains the most basic of basics.

If you're an intermmediate marketer then I'm aftaid no amount of course will be able to satisfy you. It's time to get a mentor.

Not trying to call out the OP in any way as he does have a very valid point.

However, I just want to use this space to say there are many BS'ers out there calling out BS.

Too many people read too deep into sales pages and invest in a product thinking it was some push button magic only to end up calling BS.

Do yourself a favor, realize that the sales page's main job is to sell
Secondly, do a little more research before you invest in your inevitable disappointment
Thirdly, a $4 product will not make you a millionaire tmorrow

If you call yourself a marketer of any kind, you should be able to smell BS, and if you don't smell it and it's present, then quite frankly you BS'd yourself.

Use some common sense, that's all I'm trying to say.

There's too many honest product creators and mentors out there like myself working hard to put out quality only to be generalized into BS'ers because others decided to be lazy.

Cheers and best of luck to you all

I heard an interesting analogy on the Tim Ferriss podcast today where he was interviewing Tony Robbins (... speaking of B.S. but actually he came across really well and changed my opinion of 'his' industry).

Anyways, they were talking about business (think the same for IM) and he said "The dog bit Johnny" and "Johnny bit the dog" are the exact same words but the context is very different.

The same when dialling a telephone number. You can dial the exact same numbers but in a slightly different order and call the wrong person.

When it comes to IM and BS ... for some of the methods out there it isn't the information that's wrong, it's the order or the context. We can all read a guide on making bazillions but maybe (just maybe) there is something we do differently or jumble up that goes wrong.

So you could buy the best guide on IM without the BS but because you/we/us think of see and interpret things different to the author we get different results.

Just food for thought on why so many products don't work.

And ... yeah... some are BS and some fail because people are lazy, lack discipline and often better suited to a job where someone makes them work.

You are right . . . most courses and especially videos aimed at newbies are 99% hype with only a tiny amount of content which you could probably find for free anyway, or are just ways to get you to sign-up to something which sounds good (with tons of fake tesimonials etc.) but doesn't actually work well for most people doing it, but which provides a profit for the person referring the newbie to join that service.

One great alternative is the War Room on this site, because all the methods there are posted for free so there's no profit motive involved, and you will definitely find some genuine information there and most of it as text so you can quickly scan through and see how much is real info.

Never believe anything in IM other than what you have done in practice While there certainly are real reliable IM methods, there are a lot of "methods" that don't work as specified, BUT you can learn a few bits and pieces of new info from each of them, even if it's only what NOT to do, and that way you gradually build up enough knowledge and understanding overall to make IM profitable for you, and also to more easily spot what works and what doesn't.

My recommendation is affiliate marketing, because it's a lot easier than selling your own product. Amazon is one of the best affiliate programs, as they are VERY good at selling to a customer who lands on their product pages, due to their reputation etc. and the best method to make use of them is to write product reports on specific Amazon products. Choose a product that has plenty of buyer feedback (your product report is a summary of what they say), is over $100, not too big or heavy, and not something available in a typical WalMart. Write the very best product reports that you can, giving comparisons with specific reasons why some alternatives are better for particular uses, as well as lots of quotes and summaries of what real buyers (both on and off Amazon) are saying and what it really means, etc. That's the most reliable IM method I've found in years of trying many of them. It's not the easiest but you do it right and you will make money. You need a website, and to learn things like WordPress, but that's not more than a few hours learning, and a small investment.

Above all, find something that sound like it will work, and try it for real . . . whether it works well or not is not the point, the point is that you will gain confidence because you have done something in reality, and you will learn a lot of things, whatever you do, even if it fails. Whatever the results, ask specific questions on this forum to improve your results and learn more.

Some people IM say that one should try only one IM method and stick to that only until it is profitable. One of the big problems with that advice is that many of the "IM methods" described in various places do not actually work in practice. However, as I said above, that doesn't matter too much as you will learn something from each one you try, and if you try a variety of different methods, at some point you will have learned enough from each of them to make something work for you.

Many of the "mentors" are just automated scripts given to people who've never done any IM, but can answer phones cheaply, so be careful about advice that you "need a mentor" . . . like most things in IM, yes there are some genuine mentors (I've had many bits of advice given completely free, just by asking questions on this forum . . . one can learn a LOT that way, for free), but plenty that isn't so genuine.

So pick a method, preferably one that doesn't take too much time or money to test to see if it really works, and DO it, then ask more questions based on your experience, and keep learning

    Chris

The problem is what you'll think is BS I'll think is great content and what I consider BS is great content to you. So any course of any real value will have a lot of BS for either of us to sort through to find the parts that we really need to open our minds to the knowledge we both need at different points. Which definitely sucks because everyone is used to getting everything now.

But if all the part I thought were crappy were cut out, you'd be left with something you thought was complete crap and vice versa if it were the other way around. So who wins by cutting the BS part is basically no one.

Finding the answers to exactly what YOU need can really only be answered by someone directly, not really an ebook or a video course. Those after consuming the crap you've heard already will give you a little tidbit here or there but not really say hey, what YOU need is xyz... for that you need to ask the question and get an answer from someone you can trust, or answers from many people who's answers you can sort through to find a common answer and move forward with.

So to help bring the common answer forward to you, focus on choosing a niche already and start taking action. Creating your first blog, and start building a list, and using social media to drive your traffic. Don't even think about making it perfect... just get something up so you can learn how it works and then improve it from there.

Read all the free content you can find online about marketing first and think about what niche/product you want to specialize in, even before you invest a penny into an ebook or course. Establish your basis of knowledge first and then you can move up to more advanced (rather than simplistic starter) courses in internet marketing.

Analyse your strengths and weaknesses and notice which of your strengths you can leverage in this industry to become profitable i.e can your skill help someone with a certain problem?

If you want to find a way of succeeding just find a way you can help someone with their most pressing issue i.e a business guy having trouble running promotions.

Then stick to it for a while until you become proficient and can scale.

I would suggest that you buy a comprehensive course from an experienced internet marketer who has results. There is a lot of junk out there, true. Internet Marketing is a very broad and huge niche, inside affiliate marketing there is also tons of different ways to market online.

Some of the main skills that you need to learn include - traffic, copywriting, list building, product creation, conversions and email marketing.

I know IM System is a good course, Ryan Deiss's courses are awesome on internet marketing, like the Machine and Funnel optimization, although it's a bit advanced. Frank Kern , Mike Filsame, Andy Jenkins, look for some of these guys.

Decide on your business model and then pick a really good course and study it!

          hope that helps...
