Hi Warriors:

Hope the holiday was safe/happy.

Could you please be kind enough to give me advice on web hosting companies you would recommend that can offer the following:

High Percentage of up-time

Phone support (I live in the USA) that hopefully is 7 days and 24 hours or close to it

Knowledgeable tech/customer service staff

Ease of use for updating and making changes.

My current choice shows that even impartial ratings are often very very very very very very wrong!

Thank you for your time!

  • I have had great success with 2 hosting companies:
    HostGator
    HostMonster

Both are very reliable hosting services with great support.

    • Hi Michael:

Thanks for reply. I have heard mixed reviews on Hostgator with no middle ground. People either think it is the greatest or vent for hours.

      Have a great day!
  • Who are you using now?

    • Hi Rondo:

I am using a nightmare. I'll send you a message as to the company. I am not about being negative, especially in a public forum.

      Thanks so much!

Dude, if you pay me $50 bucks per year, I will be your host and support. I've been up for about 99.9% of the time.

Cheap and unlimited domains and the whole nine yards.

  • From personal experience (rather than company experience) I recommend:

    - Hostgator
    - Dreamhost

    and above all else:

    - LiquidWeb ... best support on the web.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks

    • Hi Mark:

Thanks for info. A lot of people are telling me off line how much they like DreamHost, I have to research LiquidWeb.

      Have a great day!
    • Hi again Mark:

Called Liquid Web and they sounded very articulate with real people and actual tech support 24 hours daily. My current impersonation of a web host has tech support or lack there of 3 minutes per day with 6 hour lunch breaks and 456 hour hold times (only to not be helped).

      Enjoy the day!
  • I can recommend HostGator. I have been with them for several years and they provide great service and you can't go wrong with their prices.

    • Thanks for the info.

Glad you have had great results with HostGator. I see so much mixed talk about them, I would be concerned.

      Have a fantastic day.

  • Hostgator - the best out there!

    • Hi Mustafa:

Glad you have had success with HostGator. My worry with them is the mixed reviews people have told me over the years. I hope you continue to have the best experience ever!!!
  • Go with Host Monster, BlueHost they always have great support.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • What's the problem you heard about hostgator?
Just wish that's all untrue because you will missed the great and success with them!

    • Hi Andy:

      Hope you are well today.

The results I have heard about HostGator are interesting because there are no middle views. It is either people giving them an A or an F.

The issues that have come up in conversations and emails I have had with folks using the service or that were customers that weren't happy goes with tech support and customer service. They feel everything is fine when there is up-time (99+ percent) but if there is an issue the staff is not all that helpful and knowledgeable especially if it is something out of the normal spectrum.

I have no like or dislike of HostGator. I have never used them, no family member has either, and I have never promoted them. My words are only what former/present customers have mentioned. There are as many that think they are the best and wouldn't consider a change. That is great. Always better to be satisfied!

      All the best!!!
  • I would generally go with the small scale hosting companies. I've had good experience with a host run by a single individual, NO it was not a reseller.

The point is, I can always expect a high priority support from small companies or individuals instead of the high-fluff companies. I've heard mixed responses about hostgator so far though.

    Currently, I'm with a1-webhost.

    Regards,
    Clayton

    • I've had good experiences with HostGator. Great support and reliable hosting. The cPanel interface works quite well.

While I still use GoDaddy hosting for some sites, I don't recommend them due to the constant, intrusive, upselling and their non-standard setup for PHP, htaccess and other things.

I'm looking to expand to another host to diversify outside of the HostGator/ThePlanet data center and I haven't decided who to go with yet but I'm considering HostNine or Media Temple. I'll have to give Liquid Web a look too I guess.

  • When ever these questions come up I never see the hosting company I use mentioned. It is WebHero.com and they have great support 24/7 and I lot of options. I have had a dedicated server with them for many years on a co-location agreement and they have been excellent with very knowledgeable tech support. I have used them since 1994 and never thought about changing.

    • Hi Rodney:

Glad you have had great results. I am sorry I never heard of the company.
The emails off the site keep coming for LiquidWeb and Blue Host.

      Stay well!!
  • I'm at Hawkhost, but I've only been in operation a month or so. Hawkhost hasn't given me any problems yet so I can't say how their support is.

    • Hi Goatboy:

Thanks for the post. I hope the results stay superlative!
  • Bluehost/Hostmonster.

  • Another vote for hostgator. The interface is great (cPanel - nothing proprietary), the cost is cheap and the reliability has been excellent.

    • Hi Jabby:

Glad you have had great results with HostGator. May it be that way forever!
  • i use ixwebhosting...good and cheap for what i am doing.

    • Glad the service has been good with:

      ixwebhosting.

Hope you continue to be pleased.

Tech support should be available 7 days a week at least 18 hours per day if not 24 (via phone).

      Have a great night!!
  • I've also had good experiences with Hostgator. Their customer service staff has always been kind and understanding when I've had occasion to call. Their chat device wasn't as easy for me; I like talking with someone in person. So far so good. Hope you find a hosting service that you're happy with.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Hi Craig - web hosting depends on your business size and budget but
I have done extensive research on this subject and took ages before
    deciding but these are excellent

    Servage.net (number one pick)
    IXWebHosting.com
    BlueHost.com
    LunarPages.com

Hope you find something, reply me back

    Regards

    • Hi Mike:

Thanks for the info and hope all is well.
Servage.net (Not aware of them, thanks)
IXWebHosting.com (A few people sent me emails that they are great)
BlueHost.com (Many folks have superlative things to say!!)
LunarPages.com (I have to hold back on this one)

      Have a great night!!
  • Hi Craig,

LiquidWeb are the only hosting company that have responded to my tickets within 15 mins EVERY time. Outstanding support and they bend over backwards to help with installs, extra modules etc. In the last 10 years i've pretty much used every host out there and these guys are leagues ahead. I have a VPS with them. Search on Twitter and you'll find pretty much 100% happy customers...

    • Hi Mark:

I enjoyed the conversation I had with LiquidWeb. The fact that not once on the website or the call were they talking about up-selling every second or how I could make a zillion dollars being an affiliate. It was all business and very professional.

      Thanks for a paramount suggestion!!!
  • I used at least 10 webhosts, including Hostgator, and my favorite is definitely HostMonster. Excellent support.

    • Hi Steven:

Many people are really into HostMonster, thank you!
  • I couldn't think of anything else that Hostgator when I think of Hosting.
  • All hosting companies where you have to share a server with others is almost the same.
They oversell space and bandwidth and the mysql connections sometimes fail at a daily basis.

If I get enough money I will switch to a dedicated, preferably managed server for my own use. I don't need more than 2 gig with space, but the bandwidth is good to have a lot of.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • I still think Media Temple does a hell of a job for hosting and support wise.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • I personally use FatCow. The support is just terrific. The uptime is also great.

I like their livechat thing. Your questions will get answered quick.

    • I'm looking at hosting too. Can anyone tell me the difference between hostgator and hostmonster? Thanks.
    • Hi Digital Phantom:

Thanks for the info. Could you please tell me if I live in the USA does FAtCOW (great name) offer tech support via the phone and is it 7 days a week?

      Have a fantastic morning!
  • I've tried a stack of different hosts and since going with Hostgator I've been extremely pleased with their service. Before I signed up with them I did a lot of reading, and the sites I looked at averaged about 99% positive reviews for them.

My sites hosted with them are all lightning fast, they support just about everything, and I've found the customer service staff to be outstanding thus far. You'll get the occasional unhelpful customer service person with any large company, though I haven't had the issue yet with Hostgator, which to me is pretty impressive considering their size.

I only ever recommend Hostgator these days.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Hostgator........C panel is nice...

    • I have two hosting companies at the moment Kiosk and Hostgator. I don't think you can beat Hostgator on value for money. The package I have is 1/4 of the monthly cost of Kiosk and offers unlimited domain hosting vs 8 domains on Kiosk. The only reason I am also staying on Kiosk is their current "transmutation" into GVO and I am just curious what comes out of it. I have not had any problems with either of them and support has been good, but then I am not a demanding customer (yet).

  • I have my sites on lunarpages for nearly a year now and do not have any problems with them so far. As many members have pointed out above dream host and host gator provide great value for money.

    • Hi Revolves:

Thanks for information. It is interesting how two people can have such opposite experiences with a company. One of the places you mentioned that you like I have had a myriad of issues that could be the contents of my next book.

      Enjoy the day!
  • If you have "teh skillz" Linode is the best company I've ever seen. If all you want is simple hosting then get yourself an Hostgator account.

  • Hello,

    Take a look at

Ebook General Store - web hosting and domain registration

    Hope that helps

You can also do a review of any hosting that has been said here
do a search in Google the key is to find bad reviews and see what
they don't like. If you just do a review you will find a bunch of affiliate
sites fake review sites that marketers like to put on line to push a web host
service so be careful it is not just a fake review site.

You might want to search the key work ripoff in front of the hosting company
name so it might look like this ( ripoff hostgator ) and so on.

    Really hope that helps
