Where's my free book?

Hello all,

Quick question...

I've released a science fiction book series on Amazon Kindle and contacted Amazon to price match the first book in the series which they did. I can now scroll down the books listing and see that it sais "Amazon Best Sellers Rank: #5,711 Free in Kindle Store" BUT the book listing still shows a price on page...

How do I find the actual free version of my book so I can grab that link and promote?

Thank you

Easy. Contact KDP support and ask them.

Good for you. Now you just need to promote it or even get people who have lists to promote it for you.

Well done and congrats on releasing your science fiction book.

That makes sense. Why didn't I think of that? ;-)

I'll send them an email to see what they say.

Thanks talfighel, I've managed to get Amazon to price match the first book in the series and am going to start doing some promotion to get people downloading the free book and then hopefully purchasing the subsequent books in the series.

Actually, that's a really good idea. And, I don't want to be one of those people on a forum that says, 'good idea' and runs off. I really appreciate this technique and it's really proven to work. Just speaking from personal experience I can say that if I see a free Kindle book, then I'm likely to download and read and if it's any good, buy the rest in the series. So just from the point of a consumer, I can say how it works.

Can you explain: "price match the first book in the series"?
    Does it mean free?

A common, and often effective, marketing ploy when you have a series of books is to make the first book in the series free. People grab the freebie, and if they like it, go on to buy additional books in the series.

Since Amazon doesn't offer the chance to set a permanently free price directly, but does match prices if they find the same book cheaper on another site, the idea is to put your book on, say, Smashwords and set the price to $0.00. Go back to the book's page on Amazon and find the link that says something like "Found a lower price?" and report your book on Smashwords. Eventually, Amazon will match the price and set your book to $0.00.
