List Building Questions

After all the great feedback I got on my opt-in page, I am back for more.

I am currently focusing on building my list. I have an audio interview that I am giving away that I have had great feedback on. The problem is, I don't have many opt-ins just yet. Now I'm not sure if this is because I am not generating enough traffic yet, or if my product just doesn't jump out as something my visitor must have.

What is a good conversion rate for an opt-in page?

Also, here is another question I have. I use Aweber...If I were to create another give away to split test and see if I get better results what is the best way to manage those lists? Should I keep them separate?

I have already created several follow up messages on my first list. I am not sure if when someone joins for the new product I should automatically move them to my main list, or should I keep them separate? How do other Warriors handle this?

    I just checked out your page and it looks great!

    I have used a few squeeze pages for list building in my time and found that unless you are getting at least 30% opt in rate it is not working and the page/offer needs changing.

    I think the video is a good idea, however it is a little confusing, as you mention a lot of names that most newbies won't know or care for, and also you speak quite fast and is hard to hear in some parts, not all.

    The page layout is great!! I would consider your headline though, as the benefits are not that strong for a newbie, ...maybe have "online business that pull in $724 a week on autopilot...." just a suggestion of course.

  • Nice landing page I must accept. But I am not sure whty would you like to keep the lists separate. Do you want to split test the messages as to which messages are more effective? Because I am not in favour of having separate lists to test the effective of the landing pages.

    From high quality sources of traffic like JV traffic and article traffic, a good opt-in conversion rate is 50%. You ought to use Google Website Optimizer or Hypertracker and do some split testing to at least reach 50% with high quality traffic sources.

    What looks good almost always has nothing to do with how well a squeeze page performs.

    • I agree that 50% is a good goal with targeted traffic.

      The page is looking ok but the copy is not very good.

      Try changing the headline by taking out the 'I's and relaying the number one benefit the prospect gets from signing up.
  • @MattCarter Thx for the feedback! I am in the process of changing the video and will implement your recommendations.

    @guptara I don't really want to separate my list, but I am unsure how to combine them. For instance when you sign up for each one you immeadiately get that offer sent to you. So if they signed up for offer 2 on my site and I automatically add them to my main list..they would then receive offer 1 as well. I don't want them to get bombarded by emails right away.

    @RussReynolds Thanks...I know my copy needs a lot of work. Thanks for the advice. I realize I need to focus on the benefit to my visitors and not myself. I read that all the time, but still seem to be stuck in my old ways. Thanks for pointing it out.
  • One other thing I suggest you do is remove the links on the top... people will click them and you will lose your subscribers!

    Also make the opt in form stand out more... (bold strong call to action - tell them what to do)

    I agree with Jason, start getting some JV partners and highly related articles out there

    • It depends on your source of traffic as to the opt-in rate. I would have thought 50% is outstanding, but doable... you shouldn't be disappointed with 40%, and this is off quality traffic.. something like an affiliate that has a decent rapport with their list. If you are looking at PPC, I think you can about halve your expectations from my experience.

    You want to automatically submit the CPA offer or just enter the form data? Auto-submitting it is most likely very, very illegal. However, if you use AWeber, you can probably get it with postdata/getdata. How much HTML/PHP do you know?
