Anyone in the "Zombie" Niche?

I'm a huge fan of the Zombie Apocalypse industry. You could say i'm mildly obsessed - I've read about 20 books on the subject in just this year alone. (thanks to Audible) You could say that I have a passion for it..

Just for kicks, I've thought about building a zombie fan page, partially just to vent about Walking Dead cliffhangers, and predictions on what's to come, reviews on books I've read, etc. Everyone says do something you're "passionate" about. Well... This is something I'm passionate about, and unless you've been living under a rock - you know that anything zombie related is kind of a big deal nowadays. But is it something you can monetize?

I'm just curious on how saturated of a niche this is? Is anyone currently promoting this niche? How is it going for you?

This seems to be a good idea.. but I think zombies are not popular in other countries.

The doomsday prepper niche is pretty popular.

You can make money through affiliate products, as well as stuff on Amazon (bottle water, sanitization kits, knives, crossbows etc).

I think if you were passionate you could make a really good authority site on that niche. Would be fairly easy to create content that could go (excuse the pun) viral!

You can make anything pay however I think that is trying to make a zombie niche they would be difficult.

Your traditional PPC campaigns are unlikely to work however you could promote zombie related products, such as movies, costumes, and zombie related merchandise.

    I do.

Well, I cover the horror niche as a whole. Aside from writing novels, novellas, and screenplays in the horror genre, I have some large platforms that are monetized for the horror market. Is it saturated? Actually, no. Surprisingly. The vast majority of competition in the market is inexperienced - and we're even talking entities that have big funding. Generating horror traffic is actually a walk in the park, and you'll find the audience is very engaged; highly important nowadays. The engagement, of course, means the spread of your message. What you need here, more than passion, is ability. If you're creative, imaginative, knowledgeable, and have the right kind of voice to connect to your audience, you'll find the horror market to be a profitable one, replete with many areas to monetize. Horror fans, you see, aside from being intensely loyal to the market and anyone or any entity that can produce good content, are buyers; big, continuous buyers with - regardless of income usually - deep pockets.

If you like shambling corpses, I say go for it, buddy.

That sounds great, I completely agree about horror/zombie fans being loyal. It's awesome to hear someone validate some of the things I've been wondering about.

Only one way to find out, and if it's just for kicks, then you might as well try it and see if it sticks. If not, adjust and carry on.

If it's a big deal, you can probably monetize it!

I would think the best approach would be content-first, related to pop culture as you've hinted at with Walking Dead, etc.

There has got to be something there - maybe some ebooks, crossing with survival stuff, maybe selling related hard products off ebay or amazon. Blogging with reviews of shows, books and movies might be a good start - The Definitive Source for all things Zombie!!!!!

I registered a 'Zombie' domain a while back and let it lapse. I thought it would be a great subject to write about and found a ton of products to promote. But for me with lots of other projects on the go I just didn't have the time to commit to it. I'd say a site like this needs a voice and outsourcing articles would detract but if you have the time to write and engage it could be a great little website. You could kill it come next Halloween as well.

I'd also agree the doomsday preppers stuff does cross over nicely.

Lots of good advice here, thanks guys! I'm just debating if i want to go with a more specific page, like a unofficial walking dead fan page (which there are already a number of) Or something more general, like zombie book recommendations, movies, upcoming relative events, etc.

This is an incredible idea. I say go for it. What do you have to lose besides a little time. My father and I have been talking about building a zombie survival theme park of some sort. This is definitely something that can be monetized and there is more then enough fans out their.

Great idea, maybe consider will people be as interested as they are now when the Walking Dead series is over. I guess something similar will "rise" once it has finished however

Great. I just decided on the zombies/horror/macabre niche when I found this post. From the looks of it (a few quick searches on google) it doesn't seem as if its over saturated like the "get paid" niche. I'll look more into it hpoefully I find a goldmine!!!

  • Sure, ''Passion'' is very important..

If you want to see if you can monetize it, find affiliate offers that you can use..

Go to amazon, and check out kindle books, etc you can promote
Go to Clickbank, see if you can find affiliate products in this niche
    Etc

I don't know if this is going to help you or not. My cousin told me about a guy she met when she was travelling in the eastern countries. He met him and he was with his son. They were in Tibet and very close to one another's bungalow.

So they acquainted and she learned that he has a website which makes him considerable amounts of money. His website included a fan page on Facebook. His topic was survival in general. He has an online store where he sells all kinds of survival packs - for the wilderness, tornado, zombie apocalypse, etc. He also writes lot of blog posts about different types of disasters and what the adequate equipment is for them and how you can increase your chance of survival.

Now, there are a lot of fans of the zombie niche, but you will find out that most of them are not buyers. In other words, they are into it because it's viral at the moment and they want to be popular. A very small amount of those people are ready to buy. (these are just personal observations, don't take them for granted!)

With the amount of content that you have read you should easily be able to come up with a business plan. Think about the different types of zombies, situations, etc. Come up with some survival pack. Also, write a book on how to survive a zombie apocalypse and sell it. Create another book and offer it as an upsell.

Marketing. 9gag is the perfect place for zombies and this type of culture. You can't do direct promotion, but if you conjure some great zombie pack images, a lot of people will say "hey, that's cool, you know where I can get that?" in the comments section. There you can specify your online store or something like that.

Facebook is also a great place, but it's not the best. There are many zombie games. Ask them to put up solo ads. There aren't many zombie products at the moment so you will certainly get a lot of quality leads on your site, eager to buy.

    I am.

Give you some background. I write screenplays and novels in this genre and related genres and run various IM campaigns specifically in the zombie niche.

    Is it saturated?

If you're clever, saturation is an opportunity. How so? DEMAND.
