Hostgator - Emergency maintenance : All reseller servers

All my websites have been down for all morning. I hope this won't affect the ranking...

Hmmm.. HostGator. Can`t say that I am surprised.

At the risk of sounding like I have a vested interest, I highly recommend HawkHost. I have been using them since 2011 with Zero problems of any kind and their customer support is fast and professional.

Same here! Hundreds of my sites offline since this morning. Already 7 hours now... Last week they had problems with their VPS servers, today it's all the reseller accounts. This company is getting worse and worse every week.

Ticket support takes 24-48 hours for an answer (before EIG took over it was only 15-30 minutes) and for the live chat they put you in a 30 minute waiting line.

Since 2007 I had 3 dedicated servers with hostgator, 4 VPS servers and 1 reseller account. Moved all dedicated servers away from them and the VPS + reseller will follow soon.

    Terrible company EIG!

Ouch... I almost put up a few sites up there as I'm filling up my existing places. I was starting to think... "hmmm. I haven't heard anything bad for a couple years, they must have cleaned up their act."

I guess not. Thanks for the heads up and best of luck!

Affecting "ALL" reseller servers? Sounds to me it was more like another migration cover up...

The official word is that "a operating system update that has caused issues across our reseller servers."

IMO I'd tend to believe the official update. If they were trying to cover up another migration they'd have come out with a much less damming excuse. Rolling out OS updates to that many production servers without properly testing the impact it would have is scary.

The last "upgrade" was a lie that was covering up a migration, so what would make it any different this time?

They've basically just admitted rolling out an OS update without fully testing it in a production environment. From memory I think their last "upgrade" that was used to cover up the Utah DC migration was more along the lines of "We're moving you to new, more powerful hardware on a better network, you'll be down for a few hours but then everything will be sweet". If todays outage was the same I'd have expected some similar announcement.

....Although it'll be interesting to see a tracert after servers do come back up!!

Oh yes, I am still a reseller of their um services. Sadly, I cannot rec em any more. This is just one more reason. Yeah, it will affect your rankings at Google, so my suggestion is find another service. Like this one gets worse every year. When will this night mare end?

I'm lucky cos never used hostgator! I prefer choose smaller hosting company because they took care about their customer and service more.

Yeah, I'm so thankful I moved all my sites off Host Gator 2 months ago - after the talk about how bad they have gotten.

I kept delaying the move because of all the work when in reality, it was very easy. My new hosting company moved everything for me at no charge.

BTW, my new hosting company was recommended here (Big Scoots) and I'd recommend them highly.

My sites seem to up and working fine, but I can't log in to my email. :-(

I've been with hostgator for about 8 years and nothing like this has ever happened. I've never seen sites down this long.

7:00 p.m. here in West Palm Beach, Florida and my websites are still down.

Interestingly, emails are going "through" them. (I forward most of my website emails to my online email service.)

By-the-way, NameCheap's reseller accounts are $1.00 for the first month.

NameCheap.com Try our reseller package for $1.00 for one month.

      (NOT an affiliate link.)

      I don't think they're down right now.

      Just saying.

I've seen a lot of people on other forums and on Facebook, Twitter, etc. saying that they will be changing to a different host. This fiasco is going to cost them a whole lot of money.

Not just down, there was bad access to the database on several of my sites! one of my customers showed me their site with access to update the database, and they clicked to do it, now the whole database is gone, after 2 chats just not even going through, I called for 45 mins, to be told to place a backup request ticket.

Luckily I had an older backup. I wish I was better about the golden rule of always backing everything up.

Needless to say, just switched to a new host last night. inmotion. They had good reviews all over the place. Hostgator has just gone way downhill.

just change to others hosting as backup. You don't know when it will be happen again. Get 2nd hosting as backup. Use budget hosting. That should be enough

One of my sites is still having database issue. Homepage is okay but when I try to go to the individual posts, I get 404 error. No reply from customer service for 2 days. As soon as problem is solved, I will move all my sites from Hostgator.

Are all of the default htaccess rules still in your htaccess file? We see this a lot as well - not saying that's the problem, but certainly worth checking..

Any luck on this yet? I have the exact same problem; waited for chat for 1 and a half hours last night, never answered. I'm on 45 minutes right now. I've had a ticket open since the 30th, and it hasn't been touched.

Update on my Wordpress issue- Whatever hostgator did, they ended up deleting half the contents of my .htaccess file. I was missing everything after the #Begin Wordpress. I found that default info, pasted it in, and bingo; back up and running. I'm wondering now how much of my other data on my other 50 sites in corrupted and I just haven't discovered it.
