What's the best way to find and contact affiliates to promote our products?

I would advise you to get a product like Jeff Walker's "Product Launch Formula" if you want good info for launching a product and getting JVs.

But before you can start sending people emails asking them to become affiliates, you need to sell the product 1st to test things such as conversion rate (pre-launch). JVs are interested in those numbers especially if their also going to use PPC. You can also give out a beta version of the product to JV partners.

Giveaways and competitions also work well to launch a new product. Guest blogging is another great way to build relationships with other marketers, build your brand, attract more JVs and customers.

Here are some great ways to find potential affiliates to approach:

1. Facebook groups. All the best networking is happening on FB right now.
2. Setup Google Alerts for your competitors' names and keywords.
3. Find affiliate blogs and then leapfrog to other sites via their blogrolls (use sites like Technorati and Blogcatalog). Approach each on FB.

When you approach them, focus on building rapport first. Don't jump immediately to pitching your product. Once rapport is established, ask what sort of products they typically promote and if they'd be open to hearing about yours. Be prepared to offer goodies and/or contest prizes.

You need to have your affiliate program set up with a program like Commission Junction or ShareaSale (something that provides tracking that affiliates will feel comfortable with). You probably will want to also have an Affiliate manager who can answer questions from prospective and existing affiliates. Then go to a forum like AbestWeb.com and AssociatePrograms.com and get listed in their directories, and use the resources they have to promote your program on their sites.

There are big JV brokers who get affiliate products onto the huge lists. They tend to want to work with products $97 or more, they tend to charge $4000 of more in advance, they tend to take 6 months to check every part of the system before the launch etc. It might be worth working with one of those, I've not done so (yet) myself, but you can find their names on threads like this :

There are 2 ways to get more affiliates and the easier way:

1. On your sales page, create a link where you let your visitors know about your affiliate program.

2. After someone buys your product, integrate the affiliate program into the product. Allow your customers the ability to join your affiliate program.

Hi talfighel,

I think your second suggestion is good, but only the most uninformed (and less effective) affiliates will sign up/promote your sales page if you follow this strategy.

Affiliates are already paranoid about having their affiliate links hi-jacked. Why would they promote a sales page where you actively recruit the visitor (before the sale) to join your affiliate program?

Affiliate recruitment is an important goal, but should be totally separated from product sales. It's a marketing function and deserves it's own sales page - selling the opportunity/benefits of your affiliate program rather than selling the product.

Now a days it is no longer an issue to find an affiliate marketing people. such as if you want to use the JVZOO, you can describe your products details, then there are many people, who will willing to work on your product, they will apply for an affiliate ID, then they will got , when the application will be approved. then he can start work to increase your sell. On the other hand, you can find out mane freelancer to work on your product. You can make a job post on the freelancing market, then there are many freelancer will apply on your job post. then you can hire any freelancer, which you choose.

I would say try advertising a page of the benefits of what affiliate gets through advertising your product through email and forum marketing. Show them banners keywords, email swipes or whatever else to make their job easier on this page and advertise it.
