Using Blogger on my own domain

Hi,

I want my blog to live at www.mydomain.com/blog.

From what I understand, it's fairly easy to use a custom domain in Blogger. But I want to make sure that my current Blogger content shows up at www.mydomain.com/blog, and not www.mydomain.com Do you see the difference?

I am afraid that if I start changing CName configurations and stuff, my existing website (www.mydomain.com) will be replaced with my Blogger content. I want my blogger content to show up at www.mydomain.com/blog

Am I making sense?

Thanks for any help.

Just create a CNAME record called "blog" for your domain. That way, you can have your blogger blog at blog.mydomain.com and your regular web site will still be at www.mydomain.com.

Get rid of Blogger and import all you posts into WordPress.

You don't have control of your blog when it's on the Blogger platform.

    Hey Jojama,

I would honestly consider getting paid hosting. Imagine writing 1,000 blogs posts, and one morning you wake up to find them all gone. Not only do you run the risk of losing your work, be it a small risk in many cases, but with paid hosting you should enjoy improved speed and functionality; both of which should, in most cases, translate to higher earnings.

No matter whether you use paid or free hosting, you still need to protect yourself by keeping regular backups. Paid hosting does not remove the need for keeping backups. People have lost their sites on paid hosting. It doesn't matter. Keep backups and you'll be safe no matter where you host.

Blogger gives some people all the control they want.

I wasn't aware you could take backups with blogger. Seriously. If this is the case, and I guess it must be, then it loses at least one strike. However, to suggest that blogger is better than "good" paid hosting is, well . . . quite wrong really.

It is really easy to export a blogspot blog. It can be found under Settings -> Other -> Export Blog

In that case, my apologies. I won't be using Blogspot, no need, but I do often advise people against it in favour of paid hosting. I appreciate the info!

You should keep a backup of all of your content regardless of where it's hosted. Paid or free you need to keep you content saved in a offline location or at least in a different cloud service.

Example...you could save the raw HTML on your pages or posts in simple text documents on your computers hard drive. You could save them In Google Docs to save what you have written.

Whatever you choose...have an accessible back up.

          Thanks!

            Hey Jeremiah,

I do keep backups and have a combination of hosting platforms for different things: virtual, servers, and even run my own hosting for a couple of agencies I have. I just didn't know Blogspot offered backups. Thank you for taking the time to post, though. I agree with everything you're saying. Good stuff!

Create a cname record called 'blog' and point to your Blogger blog.

    https://support.google.com/blogger/t...=en#ts=1734117

Your blog will shown as blog.domain.com but not domain.com/blog.
