    Wow!

Interesting study of the power of...

    - The info-product model:

    - Very clever repurposing of content in order to charge more for basically the same stuff:

    - Value of generating and maintaining list:

    Good work!

For clarification, however, you priced your course at $60, right? I assume that because $12,000 divided by 200 orders is $60 each.

Just wanted to point that out, lest people think you're somehow making $12,000 by selling 200 copies of a $27 eBook. ;-)

Dan's content is irregularly read by handfuls of people. Join the elite few by reading his blog: dcrBlogs.com, following him on Twitter: dcrTweets.com or reading his fiction: dcrWrites.com but NOT by Clicking Here!

Dan also writes content for hire, but you can't afford him anyway.

Hi Dan, yes, sorry I did sell it for around $60. Actually I altered the sales price a few times - it was between $30 and $70. It sold best at $57 if I recall. To be honest this is an area I really need to develop my skills (one of many :-). I don't do any testing at all and I know I'm throwing money away. I guess all that will come as I move more and more online.

The business started with the ebook 2 years ago and it led overnight to invitations to run training courses internationally. So I quit my job and ran live workshops for the last two years. Now I'm moving more and more online - the motorway journeys are killing me! :-)

    Hey Rob,

That's fantastic and an amazing story. Hope you do good in the future as well.

You've proven the point that to make it in business takes hard work. Nothing is easy but the results are worth it.

Congratulations on taking action and making it happen, Rob.

Sometimes we over-complicate things and end up not getting the results we want. If we can just have a little more faith in ourselves, things generally turn out better than we imagined.

Mike Litman taught me this saying: "You don't have to get it right, you just have to get it going."

So you're the man, Rob. Good going!

Yes, this stuff is incredibly simple - but not easy. I would like to point out something which it seems many people here took for granted. You started with 8000 people on your list. This shows a couple of things:

    1. The method you mentioned will not work overnight for someone who did not have a list to start with. So time is involved to build that up. I can only assume these people had contact with you before and there was already a certain level of trust built up.

    2. It just goes to show that it does actually work. If you have taken the time (point 1) then you can actually print money at will.

Take your ebook, turn it into a course, make some videos, audios, workbooks, whatever. Even by offering to the same list, you will achieve more.

    Great work!

    Hi New Guy,

Good point - yes, I did have a list (although as I pointed out, effectively only 2000 people were active on it). Perhaps the story of how I got started and built that list in the first place is more inspiring and useful to people - I'll put that up soon - but the one thing I wanted to emphasize was what people have picked up on here - action is what makes all the difference.

Another point you've made - equally true - is that this isn't 'easy'. It is hard sometimes to keep going. It's hard sacrificing friends, seeing relationships go sour, ditching your social life and hobbies, letting people down and struggling without money. It's bloody hard keeping going when you have nothing but blind faith and the promises of all those so-called 'gurus' out there who tell you it's so easy. It isn't.

To be honest I don't know if I would encourage a total newbie to get into this stuff - if they had to go through a learning curve like mine I think I'd feel guilty! :-) But, having said that, if I had to do it all again, I would. It's only by getting over the biggest hurdles that you get better at hurdling and although I don't claim to have 'made it' yet, the power to be able to create even my mediocre windfalls on demand is truly liberating. Keep going friends!

Hey Christophe I'm going to put up a post about the early stages over the next couple of days. Nothing flash or technical - just bog-standard stuff really but I guess there were a few tips that people will find interesting. I've got some great ideas for you for back-ends too - this has been my focus lately. I can answer your questions for live training workshops etc as a product - they have been my greatest success so far but more recently I've been creating more and more for the online community with a view to moving my entire business online.

I'll put info up soon - just a bit busy at present.

    best wishes,

    Rob

Christophe my sig is working now and I can post links so you'll see there is a link to one of my products - seminarprofessional which you might be interested in as a back-end. Don't bother trying to buy - I've disabled the link as I'm currently doing some work on it and will put it up as a WSO sometime soon.

    Best wishes,

I believe this is actually the main thrust of the Jimmy Brown "Membernaire" course if I remember correctly. Basically you pre-sell a real-time membership, and have people paying you to create the course content, which you can then turn into an evergreen autoresponder/membership script based course without the live element.

I tried this a loooong time back but I didn't have the kind of resources to make it "pay" because I didn't have any kind of list in that niche.

That's definitely a big help in getting a project off the ground.

Bravo! that is a tremendous accomplishment. The key, it seems to me, was first building an 8000 person list. Obviously without that the rest could never have happened.

  • Profile picture of the author AdInventive
Not to devalue your accomplishment, because it's great, but to say "IT REALLY IS POSSIBLE TO MAKE GOOD MONEY QUICKLY ONLINE" is a little bit misleading.

Sure it's easy to make that much when you already have a highly targeted list of people that you started with.

    Nonetheless, great job.

Thanks folks for all your feedback - this really is a great place!

Those of you who have commented about the fact that a list was needed are absolutely right. I guess what surprised me about the whole thing was the fact that I went from 'nothing' to international speaker/trainer literally overnight once I started following my passion rather than chasing money. (I've mentioned this in another post (why didn't you give up). The list has taken a while to build up but sales came from a handful really. Anyway - I'll detail what I did to build my list in the next few days. It was nothing special really - I can only do 'simple' but if it will help, all well and good.
