IM Skills vs IM Technology ... the winner is!!

Hey guys

I am in the process of setting up a new blog and for the first time I am going to use the Optimize Press theme ... I gotta say it looks awesome.

Which got me to thinking about marketing skills vs marketing technology and which is best.

I opted for marketing skills every time and here is why.

Imagine you gave Eric Clapton 2 guitars to play the first a Walmart special offer $100 bucks cheapo then you gave him a Fender (by the way I know Jack about guitars) to play.

Would he sound naff on the cheap model and amazing on the Fender? I think we would all agree that brother Eric would do okay with both. Simply because he has an amazing grasp and talent for plucking the strings.

Likewise it is important for us to train ourselves, practice and develop our skills as marketers and then we will be able to make the most out of any internet marketing tool or system we have to use.

Just my lil mind thinking out loud.

B

P.S. I am shortly catching a flight from the cold UK to the sunny US of A ... specifically Miami. As soon as I get some WiFi I will engage with my fellow Warriors.

Totally agree with you, Bernard. And great post, to boot.

I mean, really, the best situation is to have both. Given the choice, though, I'll take IM skills every time.

My skills have never let me down, but I use my fair share of technology too.

Reminds me of just such a story. I was in Steve's Music Store in Toronto (many years ago) and the sales guy told me that Eddie Van Halen was in the store the week before and asked for the cheapest crappiest guitar they sold.

He proceeded to wail on it and give a real guitar playing clinic. He then told the crowd "It's not what you play, it's how you play it".

I agree with your point- a tool is only as good as the person using it.

Both and. It's both skills and technology that make the cake.

On the other side technology without skills is a bit difficult to survive except if you have a mentor

Nevertheless I suggest go for both!
